- The Twin District Volunteer Fire Company began in the early 1940s. In November of 1947, the Twin District Fire Company join the Erie County Volunteer Fireman's Association. They currently have a roster that includes approximately 50 volunteer firefighters. The mission statement reads; To Strive, with a positive and professional attitude, to protect and enhance the quality of life to the citizens who live, work and visit the Town of Lancaster through a comprehensive program of emergency services directed toward public education, prevention and control in the areas of fire, rescue, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents and disasters. 22 year old Captain Andrew Wargo reached out to the HND months prior to get them on the schedule. Through many emails and logistical issues, the filming was scheduled. It just so happened to be one week after a major snowstorm dropped over 4ft of snow in their area. However, this did not stop this fantastic company from hosting us and participating in a holiday parade. Mr. Wargo was so full of knowledge about the service and the company regardless of him being on the younger side of his career. This is a true testament to the men and women who came before, passing down their knowledge and skill sets.
This house was truly amazing, one of the best houses on HND. They set all their volunteers up for success with the facilities, equipment, and training offered. To that, they make sure that each and every one of their volunteers is looked after through an extensive cancer prevention program.

@@damaribrackett1159 Taxes. Lancaster is a prep town. Used to be a farm town but all the developers put subdivision in. There are still quite a few farm houses and house on land. The farmers actually ruined the land themselves when they had to sell off.
Some volunteer stations are extremely nice where I live the volunteer stations are much nicer then the city stations
I am a volunteer for Illinois Valley Fire in Oregon, and I would GO FREAKIN NUTS if we had something like this!!! Now we are in all honesty a good fire crew with 6 stations and maybe 100 volunteers, but HELL I WANT SOMETHING LIKE THIS!!
Jesus! This district, like the one last week, is on a whole different level. The amount of community, district, city, and member support for these past couple of station tours is absolutely amazing! In a time where volunteer departments are in dire need of members and funding, it is wonderful to see there are still communities where volunteerism is still strong.

the tax money erie county charges the lancaster residents are huge amounts..PLUS they have a pension retirement fund.in the FD..back in the early 90s they formed a retirement fund.Plus twin district probably get over a million a year for there members

As a daughter and sister of 2 retired volunteer firefighters. And, the aunt of a active volunteer firefighter/ EMT. I want to say a hugh THANK YOU to all of you at this station. I love everything about your fire house. I thank God often for y'all Heros. Really enjoyed this video. The guys did and awesome job touring us through. Wow Y'all really setting the bar high this year for this series. When I joined back in 93 (EMS) we had none of the tech of today, it's great to see how far EMS and Fire has evolved.

Also, the mention of cancer protection: my towns station 4 (went into service March 2024) has a detached decontamination room for hosing down trucks and the cleaning of gear after returning from a fire

NY State does a good job funding it's volunteer EMS/Fire departments. I suppose it's partially because they do not have to pay the members, but at least they have state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
It be cool for you to visit a few stations in or around syracuse NY.. But i love the content already.. Wished i had the same idea back then lol

I started at 16, was appointed a Lieutenant at 18 and a Captain by 20. If properly trained and active, it's not crazy. BTW - As Volunteers we had County standards for training required for officers. They included time in grade, i.e. 1 year as a Lt. for Captain.
It’s not crazy most volunteer departments have young officers. The company I’m in we still have have required carts that a career FF has and 3 years in the dept as a FF which doesn’t not include a Junior so by 21 you’d be eligible to be an officer
@@georgecrosby113 I get it. Maybe it's more common with volunteer departments. My only concern would be exposure and life experience other than firefighting. Not saying he'll be bad at it, just a steep learning curve.
@@jasoncrawford532 where I live in Canada you can't even join a department until you're 18. Add FF1 + FF2 or the provincial school (Quebec), you're only on the job at 21 at the earliest. Then usually +/- 5 years to be eligible to be an officer. So it's just a little wild to me I guess 😅

I believe that Engine 1 and Engine 2 are being replaced with Pierce Impels, similar to Engine 3 and the currently decommissioned Engine 2.

The first time I ever read the description in one of your videos. That's how intrigued I was with TDVFD. This is by far the most incredible all volunteer operation I have ever seen. The building is incredible. The equipment top notch. The support systems (education, training, housing) is phenominal. Could easily contend for "department of the year" award (if there was one). Just incredible. The only thing I can't quite understand.....how can only 50 volunteers be willing to be part of this ? Heck, I want to join from 1000 miles away. A special shout out to Captain Andrew. At 22 ??? Awesome. Great job Mike. Congratulations.

There will be a rigs but not the rescue. We have done a ton of heavy rescues

Way back when in parts of Chester County many fire police were auxiliary police and carried guns.

Since they don't have bunk rooms I'm curious to know how many volunteers are on call each shift, how are they notified, etc.
Well when we where there they filled the rescue and a chase car for a BLS fall to assist the EMS unit.
They (on average) are running just over two calls per day. With all of the universities nearby, I imagine that station stays well staffed at all times. College kids like to pull all-nighters so I imagine that helps with the late night and early morning runs. Loved this station tour!

Can anyone answer why Twin District is selling Engine 2? Engine 1 is much older.
We recently signed a contract for 2 new pumpers. Our research showed us that when these new pumpers are due for delivery, E-1 will be worth approx. what its worth today. However E-2 is worth considerably more now, than what it will be 2 years from now.

So how many ems cars do they have in total plus will they keep their current engine 3 and 1 or replace them with a new engine 1 and replace engine 3 with a new engine 2 and yeah so how many of each vehicle do they have
We normally run with 3 Class A pumpers, 1 heavy rescue, 1 EMS response vehicle and several utility vehicles. We just recently signed a contract with Pierce for 2 new identical pumpers. These new pumpers will replace our current E-1 & E-2

Twin District has one of the biggest budgets in the area. They are about an hour from my house.
Definitely friendlier than my local department, I have known the guys in my local department for a couple decades and one of them threatened to "kick my ass" because I took a photo of their new truck.
Most of their rigs are less than 10 years old and they are buying two brand new engines.... thats crazy. They need to be a paid department.

The neighboring Districts/Departments to the north, east, south and west all have aerial trucks, so there's no need with the Lancaster, Depew and Cheektowaga Mutual Aid system.

This volunteer station is better equipped than some paid departments. Volunteer departments around here have to struggle to come up with money to buy new equipment. I wonder where they get all the money to buy new equipment and build a huge station?
We are a fire protection district. We are our own incorporation and contract our services with the Town of Lancaster. Yes were are very fortunate and through years of proper financial management, we are able to provide the best for our firefighters
