Great content here. These mistakes are something almost every lacrosse player makes. Whats tough is that someone can watch this video and "understand" it but that doesn't mean they will actually correct their bad habits. It takes hours and hours of SMART repetitions with strategic focal points to learn these concepts and actually turn it into your new habits. To shoot with good technique like this without having to think about it, that takes a ton of time and effort.
Young players - This is the technique that players "pure shooters" like Tommy Schreiber and Deemer Class are using. Great advice to help get your shot off quicker and more accurately, while maintaining great velocity. Thanks Coach Christmas!
XGN Mythic Wolf ik I'm commenting a year completely late but I play defensive middie and its always the small kids that gave me trouble defending. Not the big strong ones
Wow, I was looking for a video like this... FINALLY my coach has been trolling us lately so I came to the internet for some professional help of some sort. And this helped.
+Jim Håkansson You kinda just get it. Try watching people shooting in slow motion. Start by cradling the ball, then, move your top hand down and do the same cradling motion. Try cradling where you put your hands to shoot. Use your bottom hand as control. After you get that, all it is is tweaking and just dialing it in. It takes practice. It's one of those things you get after a while. Hope this helps mate!
Cool video - nice technique. But does anyone else think his pocket looks too deep to be legal? I keep seeing snapshots from the pros and the ball is clearly well below the bottom sidewall. Just an observation.
there are no regulations on pockets in the pros. They dont regulate anything like that because it only helps so much to make your pocket super deep or have crazy hold. those things change your release and can make your stick harder to work with (also pro defenders are still gonna strip you with a good check regardless of how deep your stick is)
the cradle takes majority in the top hand, much like when you are two hand cradling or one hand cradling. Your bottom is used for control, but you never want to use just your bottom hand, as I have found it makes your release time slower and your shot slower. What I sort of do is a little motor cycle kind of rev with my bottom, and I use mostly my top hand for the cradle. As for the wind up (spins when shooting) I normally do a quick snap of my wrists. Hope this helps!
XGN Mythic Wolf dude I'm scrawny as fuck, 5'9" about 140, and I've played for elementary, middle, and high school. I was an attacker, I was fast for my height and weight, but, when they hit me, that shit hurts.
XGN Mythic Wolf yeah I'm 5,9 130 and skinny, but that doesn't matter, if you have heart for the sport, dedication and the will to learn that's all that matters
Ace hood rippin corners
Lol 😂

it's crazy how long he can talk about such a quick motion.
That pocket is atrocious... that thing is beyond illegal lmao
TH-cam Official glad im not the only one that noticed
TH-cam Official no regulations in the pros because it doesn’t really matter it can only help you so much
Thanks for teaching me how to make my first goal!
John Christmas is my coach and after doing multiple shooting sessions with him, my shot became so much better, and quicker.
Thank you for this video! I have the problem of cradling too much when I shoot and this helped me out a ton.
Spot on, I remember seeing all those mistakes in my playing days. Did a good job of articulating and enacting them.
Illegal pocket?
This helped a lot for a rookie player like me!
Alex Knuckles Glad to hear it EncoreBrand
Are there many lacrosse players in high school who are skinny, and not as big as other players but still have the advantage of speed?
XGN Mythic Wolf yes there are
XGN Mythic Wolf describing me

How do I do the spin before shoting? I've wanted to know this for a while, so I'm glad for answers :)

Great video
Thanks to this video, my lacrosse stick is now gone because it slipped out of my hands and it flew into a river.
Jack Buontempo omg😂😂😂 seriously?
Jack Buontempo Guess you just weren’t in the Christmas spirit. Scrooge 😂😭💀
Oof😂😂
Why u playing near a river tho
Great tips.
Very cool John, thanks!
Good Good Golf "Wheel of not ideal brought me here. They had to golf with a lacrosse stick and had shot length and control issues big time.
Very helpful in teaching my young players.
Yeah that was pretty cool thanks for sharing!
actually pretty helpful
great tips even for older players great rundown on the instructions

Andrew Kibler That's completely inaccurate. Pocket depth in the MLL is regulated the same way as pocket depth at every other level of lacrosse.
Could you do a goalie version of this "what to avoid"
1,500 like right here thanks this really helped as an attack man
Is that stick legal?
Great video.
I follow through but it either goes behind me or on the ground and tips someone could give because I did everything right and I still suck
All the lefties are making me happy :)
How do you do all those spins when shooting?

Alcatraz Outlaws!
the first time I got a stick. I broke it cus I over followed throughd lol
i always tell this to my teammates and they still t rex arm it smh
the shot he advocates looks really awkward. You know it's not right if it looks awkward.
His pocket is illegal
Nicholas Shahriari not for a pro
That pocket is ridiculously illegal
Or is lacrosse an ideal sport for big guys and not skinny ones like me.

Tiberius Caligula But did you ever hit someone else ?
XGN Mythic Wolf yeah I'm 5,9 130 and skinny, but that doesn't matter, if you have heart for the sport, dedication and the will to learn that's all that matters
XGN Mythic Wolf any skinny guy with stick skills can beat a buff guy with no stick skills but if it bothers you hit the gym
At least your not me I playing this year I'm 5"10 and 105
that pocket is the definition of a bag
He said it would be more accurate as a shooter when he made a shot in only once smh😂
he missed the net on purpose to demonstrate what not to do in a shot
I'm trying to play this sport but there is no adult teams around me -_-
he keeps missing the net
he did that on purpose to demonstrate what not to do
This is a lie his stick is going too high and you have no control of the stick. And you would never have enough time to wind up for 3 seconds
