Brutus Beefcake suffered some terrible luck before the Summerslam Pay Per Views. The Barber would miss out on two massive paydays and nearly lost his own life in the process.
Hammer talks about how his old tag team partner Brutus Beefcake was allegedly scheduled to win the Intercontintel Champtionship from the Honky Tonk Man at Summerslam 1988.
The Ultimate Warrior was moved into the spot instead, defeating HTM in record time. Then at Summerslam 1990, rumor has it that Beefcake was penciled in to win the gold from then-champion Mr Perfect Curt Hennig.
Plans fell through however when Brutus nearly lost his face in a horrific parasailing accident. The Texas Tornado Kerry Von Erich took Brutus' spot and ended up winning the Championship as well.
Valentine says that if it wasn't for Hulk Hogan there's no telling if Brutus would even have survived the accident.

I've always wondered why Brutus Beefcake didn't win the Intercontinental belt from Mr. Perfect in the 4 months in between April of 1990, and the tragic parasailing accident in July of 1990. Considering that Beefcake had defeated Mr. Perfect and ended his Perfect streak at Wrestlemania 6, it seems logical that Beefcake would have defeated Perfect for the I-C title within a few months of him winning it. Kerry Von Erich debuted one week before Beefcake's accident on July 28th, 1990, and he was pegged as the man to beat Perfect, which set up a feud between those two. Sadly, that parasailing accident took away all of Beefcake's momentum, and his career declined from that point forward.

That is not true! Dr. Habal’s son called his father and told him to get to the hospital and save Brutus it was 4 July Dr. Habal was on the golf course when his son called him and he left immediately to go to the hospital and it was Dr. Habal that brought in the 18 wheeler and all of the medical equipment to take care of Brutus
