As a fashion photographer/videographer, I’ve only ever sought to humanize the models I take photos and shoot footage of. People tend to forget that all the images of (super)models shown on magazines, Instagram, TH-cam videos, billboards, etc. aren’t just about her body or sex appeal… artistically, it’s her RAW HUMANITY that made that image come to life in the first place. Aside from the negative stigma that models get (being vain, shallow or privileged), her looks are what get people to judge her POSITIVELY, to prop her up on a pedestal, to MYTHOLOGIZE her. At the end of the day, judgment - negative or positive - just puts people, including models, into boxes. Knowing the drama that goes on in the fashion industry - Ed Razek, Harvey Weinstein, Lesley Wexner, Jeffrey Epstein, etc. and human/sex trafficking via fake agencies - it’s all the more reason that these kinda issues have to be made more aware of. But no one - not even the mainstream news - will ever talk about it, and due to the ostrich syndrome, no one among the masses will talk about it. But I will! I might be grasping at straws here, but… as someone who’s been born high-functioning autistic, I know how it can be dehumanizing to get thrown into a box, a stigma, that all the people only associate you with that image. That’s why I’ve only ever as a photographer sought to humanize the women I work with - to let THEM radiate their authenticity while I only micro-direct, to let THEM show their real vibe and pose as they wish, to COLLABORATE with them artistically. She’s making art as much as I, the photographer, am. What she’s gonna be showing herself is her brand too. Knowing this is what happened to a model like Karen Mulder, Bridget Malcom, Erin Heatherton, etc. actually does make me sad…
Exceptional.. if only there were more people in the world that shared your opinion ! I was a model for about 10 years and because I refused to spread my legs, get on my knees, or open up and say ahh, I was labelled a troublemaker and very quickly I become an outcast. Looking back I consider myself lucky !!!thank you for the video. You can never have too much awareness.
This is a really well done mini documentary. I’m shocked your channel doesn’t have more subscribers! Well done and you will get there! I’m a new one now!! ❤😊
I remember her very well, she was one of the faces of the 90s. I had no idea about any of this, obviously it was very hushed. But then again I have long understand this about that industry. Catwalks and magazines are catalogues for wealthy guys. The ones who don’t want to play are forced to play.
There is a 2024 Dutch documentary about models with undercover footage that shows how very young models (with a modeling agency contract) are made to dine with old creeps, who of course invite them over to their hotel rooms. It's disturbing to know that the model industry hasn't changed. I've always loved Karen Mulder. She, Gia, and Claudia Schiffer are the most beautiful supermodels, IMO. Thank you for telling her story and taking her side.
I’m praying for her right now! We look at these gorgeous models and are so enamored by their “perfect” bodies, “perfect “ faces etc. We have NO idea the pain and trauma they hide behind it! I hope she heals from the horrors that were done to her, and those she witnessed! Praying she finds Jesus to heal her completely 💕
Karen Mulder was admired for her beauty and Sweet and Down to earth personality and further more for her integrity. Despite all of the impending dangers, she decided to tell it all. In addition to mentioned above, she, along with Marpessa Hennink, Frederique van der Wal etc. paved the way for modern-day Dutch supermodels like Doutzen Kroes, Rianne Van Rompaey, Lara Stone, Romee Strijd, Yasmin Wijnaldum, Imaan Hammam etc. She also paved the way for Barbie-esque supermodels like Candice Swanepoel & Gigi Hadid (who both have Dutch ancestry) and also Victoria's Secret Angels like Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, and some mentioned above as she was the very first Angel and followed by Tyra Banks, Stephanie Seymour, Helena Christensen, and Daniela Pestova.
Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio etc were part of the Brazilian wave spearheaded by Gisele Bundchen in the early 00s. Karen Mulder had nothing to do with that as her aesthetic was completely different.
@markdwighttadina7655 Understood. But while I don't disagree on that basis, she didn't _entirely_ pave the way for the likes of Lima and Ambrosio bar being the inaugural angel. The 2000s was marked by being the era of the Eastern Bloc and Brazilian invasions whereby the Slavic girls were more editorial and the Brazilians were more commercial. So Mulder [although Dutch] would have been grouped more so with the former than the latter.

@@evadelle9153 Well, her mother was a groomed and experienced courtesan, working her way to find a rich man to marry, Carla made good use of her mother's know how so she did very well in life. I would assume non of the top models would be able to get to the very top, without doing some "services". I have no proof, as the others didnt soeak out. But logic says that.
Starting with young teen models they need their protective mothers or other tough guardians or advocates to ensure their safety from all kinds of abusers. And if she’s really, really smart she will have a security guard at interviews, photo shoots and events to show she’s not an easy target … and an excellent accountant (not some smart ass boyfriend who will rip her off like what happened to Lauren Hutton). Top models need to take the advice of true professionals to guide them, not get undressed naked alone at a photo shoots, need to pass on drinks (not knowing if they’re spiked) and keep away from all the damn drugs. The fashion & cosmetic & movie industries are very appealing to young women with high school educations who want instant financial gratification like they read about or see on line. If a beautiful girl gets a proper education (even if it’s a theatre degree) she will be at less risk of the worse things imaginable that can happen to naive young things … and they do happen. Former models should write a handbook about what to expect, what can happen and how to protect themselves! Years ago I was a young receptionist at a top cosmetic company in NYC and saw these young mid-teenagers coming in with their Ford portfolios with no chaperone & they would be meeting with advertising men in their 50’s … these were naive girls from the Midwest or the suburbs and I always hoped they had a professional photographer (like Richard Avedon) to protect them … because some of the other so-called photographers (who wore leather caps) accompanied by their groupies were very unsavoury characters. Got be smart especially in NY or other Capital Cities in order to not to get used and get in with the wrong crowd. Beauty on last so long … alcohol, drugs and the wrong men can age a model very quickly!

What does her parents having money have to do with her? It's. It HER money. If you're referring to her having more choices n opportunities than yes. But she chose modeling. It was HER CHOICE.
I loved KM in the 90s supermodel era. I saw her IRL in the early 2000s several times at Hotel Costes in Paris. I guess it's wrong to gossip about someone troubled especially when I can't substantiate it, but I will say what I saw with my own eyes gave me the impression she was a drugged out escort to rich men. She'd had extensive work done on her face, was clearly in the embarassingly drugged out or drunk stage, and was flitting around a table of rich & famous men like a play thing. I found it quite shocking
Wow, this world is full with disgusting people! So as soon as you tell the truth , they want to make you look insane and blame it on drug addiction and not being mentally stable.
TH-cam can de-monetise a video if certain words are used. This is why self-censorship exists for content creators, because they don't want to take any chances.
Born into a family of a tax collector and a secretary is considered being born into "a pretty rich" family? I don't know where you are coming from, girl but as a recruitment manager I need to oppose your unfounded opinion. Isn't it better to check the facts before releasing a video? It usually adds more credibility to it :)
She didn’t come form a wealthy family. A tax collector and a secretary?? But tons of women from very wealthy families fall prey to the worst men in the world. Often exploited by their own families. It’s……. Kinda how the history of wealthy families works
I think there is a documentary on TH-cam about Gerald Marie agency Elite, there's a clip where the men are talking about which model they want to f**k, they are in Milan and send the young models there to mingle around the clubs with the sleazebags
Karen Mulder is very much alive and living a quiet life, she has a daughter.

Szkoda że żadna super model się za nią nie wstawiła , bardzo to smutne .
Great video though, you got it spot on - these industries that push beauty hide very ugly secrets

Thank you so much!!🤗🤗
Yes, true story. I was there.
Her family didn't support her either looks a little bit like Britney Spears story.
Yeah sadly😞
I would have loved to be a model in the 90s, but I was only 5'4". Thank goodness I wasn't what they wanted.
Oh she was very beautiful. Such a shame what happened to her i just hope she has found peace and happiness ❤
There is a steep price to fame in the entertainment world, sadly, most of these young women will gladly sell themselves to the highest bidder.
I was a successful model in the 90s. It was pure misery & stress.
Tax colector and a secretary is not a wealty familly. Basic middle class maybe even lower middle

@@A.Candido-j1e wtf 💀
Every time I see the men models get involved with I think “yuk ! This minger! He’s punching above his waist! She could do sooo much better!”. Then I realise that because the women are so gorgeous, those average guys inevitably end up looking frumpy in comparison.
I don't like this report insist she had mental health problems.
Why people are certain women who tell their stories about being abused and conrolled are suffering mental health diseases?
She was so lovely
What about Cindy? Has cindy been through stuff like this? If So, why would she make her daughter follow in her footsteps
I don't think Cindy went through the sufferings like Karen did.
Karen Mulder signs with pact of the devil : monney Glory success this is the Real reason and you see Big jaw Adam apple long arms ....baphomet
@@Fastria-fashion what about 'yacht-girls' then? Sure you can say Crawford never went the very same thing as Karen. But surely you think they would solicited 'services' for wealthy man decades before the french 'yacht girls era'
Coach Greg Adams says Modelling industry is High-Paying Escorts business. Study Jean Luc-Bernal, Study Abrecomie & Co
@@jameskevin6017 Well, I don't any thing private about her. She might have experienced or not
THIS IS ABOUT KAREN!!!!!
She was the Supermodel I liked much.
I also hope Karen Mulder is doing good in life.
... The middle age =
over. WhaT we keep we choose
Great video great info i subbed 😂
These men are disturbing poor woman
Dont do DRUGS Girls!
even if you dont, you can still get drugged & abused
Most are drugged without knowing, like spiked drinks.
Yep! The hedonic treadmill in full effect!
As a pretty brown girl who is First Nations it sucks. Not treated nice by any guy or woman. Animals and elderly ppl love me
This is relevant to explain DD.😢
It does not have to be like this. It’s the drugs. Never touch that.
The industry is like this and drugs happen even without consent all too often
Poor Karen
Yeah, the Dutch Beauty doesn't deserve this😣
@@Fastria-fashion Abrazosy besös.
she's so pretty omg
She had wealthy parents she did not need to enter modeling where all sorts of creeps are preying over vulnerable naive women
What does her parents having money have to do with her? It's. It HER money. If you're referring to her having more choices n opportunities than yes. But she chose modeling. It was HER CHOICE.
She didn’t have wealthy parents.
A tax collector and a secretary? lol
But where is she now you missed that...
Im surprised her friends were supportive
Yeah
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, don't get fooled young ones.😊
I knew what happened to her many years ago.
I don't know what is true and what is not. But it's a dirty business
Thats awful! May she rest in peace! Lovely lady! Hope all these creeps pay for her and others suffering!
She is very much alive, living a quiet life and has a daughter.
she's not dead
So these woman gets payed millions for wearing clothes and walking . Yeah , nobody believes that .
Reverse WHAT surgery?
Plastic?
@icingcake Maybe.
This is horrible.
Thats why shalom harlow is not marrying
Creeps are everywhere!
Wow, this world is full with disgusting people! So as soon as you tell the truth , they want to make you look insane and blame it on drug addiction and not being mentally stable.
You are diminishing the importance of this story by beeping out the crimes committed against this woman.
Well if I don't do it, TH-cam will age restrict my video, which will slow down the views and reachability to the mass audience.
TH-cam can de-monetise a video if certain words are used. This is why self-censorship exists for content creators, because they don't want to take any chances.
Bez ljutnje nikad čuo
I have ALWAYS believed Karen Mulder.
😢
Very sad.....
Yeah😔
Born into a family of a tax collector and a secretary is considered being born into "a pretty rich" family? I don't know where you are coming from, girl but as a recruitment manager I need to oppose your unfounded opinion. Isn't it better to check the facts before releasing a video? It usually adds more credibility to it :)
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I dont understand if she came from wealthy well done family how did she fall into these ev1l men's hands.
Почему насильники не осуждены????
What a heap of tired typical scenarios
Why her and not the other supermodels? That’s very strange.
Do you really think that the other supermodels don’t have the same story!? Wow people are so incredibly noive!
I learned: there is just THAT way described here ☹
Jesus is coming back. Please repent to be saved
