    Top 10 Reasons to Buy a Truck Camper
    1. You already own a 3/4-ton short bed pickup truck, or you’re thinking about getting one.
    2. RV Parks are a last resort, not a first choice in overnight accommodations. You want to get off the beaten path and stay somewhere with a view.
    3. You’re an urban explorer, too, and towing a trailer through New York City is…well…just not your idea of a relaxing holiday.
    4. What about your boat? Every tried launching your boat from the back of a Class-B? Good luck with that one, as you’ll likely end up spinning your tires.
    5. Fly under the radar without irking neighbors and local authorities. We have heard from customers that, unlike towable RVs and motor homes, truck campers are much less likely to draw the ire of neighbors. You can probably visit the in-laws for a few days without creating a scandal in the homeowner’s association.
    6. Save on vehicle registration and insurance. Only 14 states require a truck camper to be registered or titled. If you’re like us, you’d rather hold onto as much of your money as you can!
    7. Go where no man has gone before! Face it, there are just some places where you can’t take a Class-B motor home or a towable RV. They are certainly not candidates for going off-road. A truck camper gives you that option.
    8. If maintenance cost is important to you-and it should be-you’ll be pleased to learn that truck campers are significantly cheaper to maintain. It makes sense. They don’t have any moving parts that contact the highway, so there’s no engine, no tires, and no wheel bearings to maintain.
    9. It’s a great “Plan B” in case the you know what hits the fan. Wildfires, floods, gas leaks…these have all been in the news lately. If you end up getting displaced for some period of time, for whatever reason, chances are that hotels will fill quickly and you may not be able to get a room…or it will cost you a king’s ransom if you do find one. A truck camper makes for a great bug out vehicle.
    10. Drop the camper, and use the truck to get your work done. Need some firewood? Just drop the camper and head for the woods! Going to be on a work site for a few days? It only takes about 5 minutes to jettison you load, and you’re ready to get to work. Oh…your truck camper makes for a great mobile office, too!

    Beautiful camper. However, one big flaw. A bad feature is when you must open the screen to close a window. At night, loads of mosquitoes will be on the screen, drawn to the light. Then if you want to close the window, you must open the screen first and all of those mosquitoes will come right into the camper. I have seen review after review of people saying this is a terrible feature on campers. The old style with the crank out window with the crank on the inside is far superior to this style. Many campers are putting the same kind of thing on the overhead fans. You must open the screen in order to close the cover and all those mosquitoes come right down into the camper. Terrible! The companies making campers with this style of windows should really reconsider and change to the crank style with that crank inside, so the screen doesn't have to be opened in order to close the window.

      Linda Good True, total window fail..... other than that, NICE.

    • @HUHBAT
      @HUHBAT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just spray some OFF before doing the process of closing the window.

    • @billredding2000
      @billredding2000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @HUHBAT: Yes, but that's only a work-around: It doesn't fix the poor design issue. RV makers need to apply more "real life & use" common-sense to things like this.

    • @rodneyarmstrong3813
      @rodneyarmstrong3813 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Linda Good that's not a flaw because if you have the window screen on the outside it wouldn't last a month traveling down the highway. The wind would destroy the window screen and you won't have any screen. Just thump the screen before you open it to close the window.

    • @corydriver7634
      @corydriver7634 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Rodney Armstrong it is a flaw. The screen can still be on the inside you just need a mechanism to close the window without opening the screen.

    LOVE IT. I like that this one has windows by the bed. I don't like when they put closets and fridge in the bed area. I also like the tv unit. Great camper. Great bargain!

    I saw one of these custom placed on a regular 20 foot flat bed double axle gardening or utility trailer; "The one with the fence". They welded some kind of rest on it so that the camper sat about one foot over the trailer hitch and under that was used for super storage. They placed green turf around the base of it and had a small dog house picnic table and BBQ pit. I want to do that because I have an old 16 foot double axle trailer I hardly use. I have a midsize Chevy that I can use to pull it with and I think I will feel safer with it set up that way also I can bring my dogs with me and they will have enough space to move around when I am parked and they will be fenced in and not tied to the truck all the time. Also I am use to pulling that trailer. I wish I had taken a picture of it. It was a really good Idea. To me it chops the price down from buying a larger tow trailer at least by $8K I rather small with more outside space then small with more inside space. I hope that makes sense.

    Great video, Paul!
    Actually, the manufacturer, Pleasant Valley Trailers, still makes the Cirrus. In fact, the all new, 820 was just released to the general public the week of 6/14/16! It's been revamped and offers a lot more storage and functionality, but kept the same cool features and aesthetic!

    here is the problem I have with a lot of videos not only yours nobody ever wants to talk about price as a consumer I want to know what I am getting for the price. Yes you did mention they start at 19000 but is this the one for 19000 probably not. When you show a model you need to say it is this price for this one. Probably just me but when somebody is not completely upfront it sours me on the product and the person presenting it.

    • @TheAirForceGuy
      @TheAirForceGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Michael, I normally do not talk price! My videos are for people to be able to see the floor plan and that way when they want to stop by they have their search narrowed down and do not have to look at so many. Oh, by the way the sale price on any of the truck campers were the same $19,995, once they are gone that price is no longer available. These are 2016 left overs!

    • @spec46971
      @spec46971 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Price is a big deal to me if I don't know what something cost I will not research it any further people want to know what they are getting into before they look

    • @TheAirForceGuy
      @TheAirForceGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The purpose of my videos are to show people the floor plans, not to discuss pricing. We have a website for pricing! Pictures sometimes do not give you the real feel for RV's. Also, my videos are to inform the public about what a particular RV has to offer. When I have someone that is serious about a certain RV, they either call or email me for additional information and sometimes they just stop by to see them in person. Thank you for your input and I at least hope that you find my videos helpful.....

      Jaquelyn Klooster same here. Price is a big deal for me as well. If I don't know the price upfront, I will more than likely go shop somewhere else that will tell me upfront. No offense Paul, but I can't stand salesmen. If I have to call to get a price, I will go elsewhere just to avoid any possible pushy sales tactics.

    Im an RV mechanic..Every Camper is made the same way with the same components. Only difference is the layout and the name. All manufacturers draw the camper parts from the same companies.

    • @TheAirForceGuy
      @TheAirForceGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom, Thanks for your input. But all manufactures do not use the same components. They vary from one to the other. There are several different manufactures of components, so you will find differences when looking at the wide variety of RV Manufactures.

    • @racrx7
      @racrx7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most, but not all, RV’s are pretty much the same and yes, use the same crappy fixtures and components. However, there are a few exceptions out there. NuCamp manufacture being one of them. Far superior than the junk that comes out of Indiana.

    You mentioned this is made by Little Guy, so naturally I thought about Liberty Outdoors. I Googled the Cirrus name and found that this is made by NuCamp! I thought I recognized the door as you went in. It's that same door found on the TAB series.

    • @TheAirForceGuy

      That is correct. For this model year it was Little Guy, which was the marketing part and Pleasant Valley Trailers was building them. Now, they are NuCamp which is Pleasant Valley Trailers.

      I have been in the business since the summer of 2001, I am a straight shooter, More knowledge about RV's than most other sales people in the industry, I actually do the walk thru with my customers, all my customers have my cell phone in case they forget how to do something, no pressure and last but not least, I have an RV Maintenance Book that I give to each and everyone of my customers.
      Now the reason to purchase from Beckley's Camping Center. They have been in business for over 35 years, more Master Mechanics than most RV Dealers. Large inventory to pick from. We do not charge extra fees like other dealers. No additional Prep, Freight, Documentation Fee, Public Official Fee or Emergency Alert Fee.
      I do realize that you said good reason, which would be just one! But there are more than one good reason to purchase from me & Beckley's Camping Center.

    If I go to a website and where the PRICE should be listed there is instead something like "Call for price" or "Get a price quote," I'm not going to do it -- I just leave the site immediately and continue looking.

    • @TheAirForceGuy
      @TheAirForceGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John, The issue with that logic is that most companies do list the MSRP and no one pays retail. Even if there is a so called Sale Price, that too may not be the Best Price available.
      Keep in mind one other important thing, Best Price is Not Always your Best Deal.....
      There are many other things one should be looking for other than price.
      1} Floor Plan
      2} Dealership Rating {both Sales & Service}
      3} Length
      4} Colors {if applicable}
      Good Luck in your search.

    Dear Paul, the Airforce guy, If you still work for Beckley's camper sales be warned on the Cirrus 800 camper. I purchased one of the cirrus campers in March of 2018 while it was still winter to test the heat functions for a trip to Alaska and the tests and camper were a nightmare. The unit is not 4 season capable. It does not have basement heat and froze my water lines and tanks. The furnace is a boiler system that has engineering problems. 1) It shuts down when batteries voltage drops to 10 volts. A on board generator is not available. 2) Boiler loses it temperature at night on its own even with the thermostat set correctly. 3) It would not warm up several nights. The solar panels are too small and don't charge the batteries. Refrigerator is only 5 sq. feet with a freezer that is inside the refer. No screen door. No on board generator available. Warranty is only 1 year. I am returning this piece of junk and getting out of the loan. Be careful if you sell a camper with your name on it, you will ruin your reputation.

    Very nice! Thanks for the tour. To the manufacturer, I must say that this design is very old school. Maybe it's time to stop the gaudy racing-striped exterior paint jobs that are done to death to the point of being a dated cliche. There is no way four people, much less six, could store winter coats, boots, and other things. There's wasted space in the cabinetry construction and in unused side and upper corners that could provide at least 30 square feet of additional storage. Why are these not offered with OPTIONAL convection ovens, giant microwaves, and enormous refrigerators? Not everyone plans to bake a Christmas turkey, nuke a big-dish casserole, or store food for 6 in a cramped RV, where more drawers/cabinets in those spaces would be beneficial. Why are dinettes not offered with an optional two-seat version, with all that other space occupied by 4 seats used for cabinets? Why isn't the mattress built to raise up on hinges so that the underside offers queen-size space x 5 inches beneath for critical additional storage? The awning is great, but where's a simple roll-up three-sided canvas & Velcro attachment that would turn that space into a livable additional exterior tent-type room? Such a small thing would double the living space when parked. Why are the sink covers not made to be detached and mounted on the side of the sink for an enlarged counter top? These old-fashioned designs really should be scrapped and put back on the drawing board to maximize their usefulness, especially for single or couple-only occupants. Give us a built-in safe, a deep sink you could wash boots in, a built-in 5-gallon bottled water dispenser, built-in surge protector, built-in vacuum with hose that will reach from dashboard to rear, and a small wood-burning stove that can be opened to the inside for off-grid heating or closed and opened to the outside for off-grid cooking, please.

    Let’s clarify one thing. These are and were always built by the Amish folks of NuCamp. Little Guy is just a name that is slapped on products built by other entities. NuCamp, when they were building campers for Little Guy, went under the name Pleasant Valley. They changed their name to NuCamp when they parted ways with Little Guy.

    • @TheAirForceGuy
      @TheAirForceGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let’s Clarify things. Pleasant Valley Went out of business and Little Guy contacted them to make campers for them, it was a business relationship. At the time that this video was made, Pleasant Valley Trailers Built these and Little Guy did the marketing of them. As of April of 2016, Pleasant Valley & Little Guy went their separate ways. Now we have NuCamp by Pleasant Valley and Little Guy Trailers by Liberty Outdoors.

      Nasty, that is a hard question to answer without having all of the information needed to make an educated guess. Many variables are in play here. What part of the country, what time of year, private sale or trade-in, are there any water leaks and what did you pay for it new.
