Dodger fan here, DONT CHANGE A THING, I love the aspect of this podcast where you guys can loosely just talk and banter about roomers, shows a real human aspect to the podcast, I know you ladies are professional reporters but I do love the insiders to your guys reactions to rumors kinda like the rest of us here
The deferred money is placed in an escrow account each year the money was to be paid. The good news for the Dodgers, they keep all the earned interest through the deferred years. The Dodgers know how to make money on top of money. The Dodgers earned $120 Million in marketing revenue in Japan alone and paid Ohtani $70 Million which means the Dodgers earned $50 Million just by having him on the team.
@@tensaimsthey didn’t do their DD. Most people don’t seem to understand how deferral contracts work let alone how much revenue and money the Dodgers have from previous deals prior to Ohtani.
They also refer to Bobby Bo. At the time that money sounded like a huge number each year but in today’s terms it is almost nothing. While Shoheis money will still be a lot of money when it is paid out, average salaries will have increased by quite a bit and revenues will most likely be higher.
I've been a life long Dodger fan and let me tell you...this podcast is my favorite. I'm literally waiting for each episode to come on. It's real entertaining and I do love all the info both of you talk about. You do have a fan here ladies keep on with your fire 🔥🔥🔥 podcast.
@@brandonin_nyyea. Enjoy it until you have to start paying the $1b. Dodgers fans seem to be under the impression that that money sitting in escrow is making like 1000% interest right now. Even if it’s making a ridiculous 10% interest (which it’s not) that’s only $10 million a year on the $100m they’re dropping into the acct every year. It’s not $1b sitting in that account yet. And there’s no way they’re even making 10% so you could probably take half or a quarter of that. There’s no billion dollars right now to even put into escrow investments. It hasn’t been earned yet. They’re probably putting in the 100 million a year that they should be paying the players right now. So how much money they really making off of that genius investing? Certainly not $1b to foot the entire deferred bill. Even if they’re making 10% on that yearly deposit of 100m (which they’re not) it’s only $10 million interest a year. There’s no way they’re gonna be making more than that from these investments because there is no way they bought high risk investments. There’s no way they’re that stupid to invest in a high risk investment and risk just losing every dollar of it. So it’s definitely low risk, low interest Investments. They’re not gonna be able to put teams together for like 10 years once they start paying that billion back and I can’t wait. Interest income is never going to be enough to cover the $1b+ they owe. The Dodgers got lucky right now with all that Japanese revenue too, but as soon as Otani is done in 10 years, do you think the entire country of Japan is still gonna be watching? So yes, you have all that extra money now but it’s not gonna last forever. People acting like they’re so genius. You just got lucky that Otani wants to be in LA to be close to Japan. And now the extra money is coming from there and you’re acting like your team are such geniuses. When anybody that got Ohtani would be in that situation earning Japanese revenue. 2034 news: the Dodgers go bankrupt. Let’s all celebrate. 🙌 🎉 Yay!!! Lol
Japanese Dodger fan writing from Japan. Your podcast has made me a Mets fan as well. It feels good to love two teams. I'll be rooting for the Mets when they play the Dodgers, except when Ohtani or Yamamoto is pitching. Hope Senga wins 15 games for you!
You spelled “I’m an Ohtani, Yamamoto, and a Mets fan” wrong. It’s okay to just be a Mets fab and root for your local nationals, but a Dodgers fan YOU are NOT!
@kuni You cannot be a fan of 2 National League teams. Being a fan is about loyalty. So by definition, you can only be loyal to 1 team. You can be a Mets fan and an Ohtani and Yamamoto fan. You're a fan of 1 team and a fan of individuals from another team, but you're still a fan of only 1 team. So you can not say that you're a Dodgers fan too. Being a fan of 2 teams is like asking to have 2 wives lol.
I grew up as an SF Giants fan from California, but I like to say I am a Mets “follower”, rather than “fan”, even though I’m very excited about what’s to come for the Mets. There’s great history between the Mets, Giants, and Dodgers, so I do appreciate the Mets for that reason, as well. I understand the loyalty aspect, so when it comes down to which team to root for at the end of the day, I will pick the Giants, but the Mets are a very close #2. Keep up the great work, Samantha and Ashley!
Great job again ladies but I just wanted to clarify something about this "Dodgers deferment debacle" (as Ashley so eloquently stated). First of all, my Dodgers are not doing anything that every other team in the MLB couldn't also do. ANY team can defer payments on any percentage of a players contract, as long as the player agrees to it. Secondly, deferred compensation was agreed to in the CBA by EVERYONE, without limitations. Thirdly, the Dodgers are not paying for these players on a "credit card" (as Ashley once again stated). The Dodgers are required to pay the players present day value of the contract's AAV into an escrow account annually. And again, this system was agreed to in the CBA by every MLB team so no one should be whining and crying about what the Dodgers are doing because every MLB team can do the same. If you want to be mad, go be mad at the cheap billionaire owner(s) of whatever team you root for that won't do the same as the Dodgers. I'm not saying they can spend the same amount of money as the Dodgers but they certainly could spend a lot more and use this deferment system to put a competitive team on the field.
Tommy Tanks is definitely a Dodger fan favorite! - just like the “Why Am I a Mets Fan?” Podcast 💙⚾️ Thanks for your insight. The banter you two have going on is honest and bright.
Diehard Dodger fan here, you ladies are badass, smart commentary and know what your talking about. Slowly becoming a Mets fan because of you ladies, keep going.
METS FAN HERE! Like this comment if you're a Mets fan too. And if Soto signs with the Red Sox then they better kick the Yankees asses. If he won't sign with the Mets then at least give us that satisfaction Mr. Soto.
That's not how deferred money works. Dodgers have to pay the current values of the deferred money into an escrow account, so the money is being paid now.
The 2024 Miracle Mets had to one more left,WELCOME JUAN SOTO!!!! What a ride! Our organization is at a new level! And that’s why we are Mets Fans! I have to admit I started listening to your show because I thought it would provide some good therapy. However, it turned out to be a great platform to enjoy the most amazing year in a long, long time.
Really happy you guys call out the speculation as rumors instead of just sensationalizing here say like a lot of other podcasts do.love the journalistic integrity
Edman is very much loved by Dodgers fans! Cheers from LA 💙 BTW whoever that hater was is way out of line! Clearly he is not mature (or intelligent) enough to disagree without resorting to hateful/disrespectful language. Keep doing what you are doing because its clearly resonating with many baseball fans ❤
Another Dodgers fan here checking in on the latest rumblings. I've been pondering how you two knowledgeable ladies might be contemplating your format going forward with your newly found fandom. 😊
I've been doing the same. It feels like they are not quite leveraging the "elephant in the room" Dodgers Nation, will embrace and can take them to another level. Yes, they are Mets fans and its a Mets podcast, ironically its also my favortie Dodgers podcast 😅. They certainly need to figure it out.
Back here again as a Dodgers fan! I don’t mind the hot stove opinions you ladies have. I just enjoy listening to your opinions on the happenings around baseball. I say go for it!
Dodgers are owned by the Guggenheim Partner Group, they're worth $335 billion, so I think they can handle the deferments. Great job as always ladies, keep it rollin'💟
People are so misinformed about the money deferred. In the case of ohtani for example, every year LA will pay Ohtani $2 million and set aside another $44 million in an escrow account => which totaled the 46m$ AAV. So once the 10 years have passed, once the Dodgers owe the so called "68m$/year", they got the 46m$ put every year for 10 years in the escrow account to fund this payment. Take that same concept for every other deferred contract which are way smaller in deferred money, and it's really not that huge an issue. Sure the team will feel it but not as much as people make it out to be. Certainly not to a point where the dodgers would pawn off their issues to another owner.
Enjoy listening to you two. Thanks always for a good listen. I assume there is a comment here but in the case there isn’t, here is a short explanation why signing bonus and deferment benefits both player and team. For signing bonus, player benefits because they get a lump sum in their residence, so lower/no state income tax if team is in high state income tax. In the case for the Dodgers, this is used to offset deferred monies. Deferment benefits mainly the team as it lowers the AAV for CBT, but also can help the player if it’s paid over 10 or more years. If that is true, then federal laws treats it as retirement income, and gets taxed in the resident the player lives upon receiving payment (ie not high tax state CA). For the team, they will need to put a certain amount of the deferred money into an escrow account and that balance will need to grow yearly where 2 years after the last year of the contract, the value of the account needs to have to be the total deferred amount (this account can be funded numerous ways and can earn interest or gain value in other ways). This provision is there so owners can’t say they are broke and file for bankruptcy and the player won’t able to earn their salary. Most deferment today is deferred without interest. Bobby Bonilla was deferred with interest, so his amount is more than the amount he initially was owed. Some franchises doesn’t engage in deferred payments because that will lower the sale price of the team if the owner is planning on selling it because the new owner will be in charge of funding the deferred payment account. So when the bill is due, Dodgers payroll won’t be in trouble because the money is already accounted for. It’s like every year setting aside money for the big purchase in the future. Enjoy listening your takes and thoughts. Keep up the good work.
Another dodger fan, back again for another episode Hell yeah, we love Tommy Hyunsu Edman, he is a fan-favorite and a grinder that came up BIG for us in the postseason, the well-deserved NLCS MVP
It’s like buying a tee shirt on a credit card for $5 but sold it only a day later on eBay for $20… this is the logic of deferring contacts, most specifically Ohtani’s
I want to hear your opinions, period. Don't stop talking about rumors. And we a Dodgers fan I want Walker back. He was coming out just and I think the guy was saw in the postseason is more like the guy we will see next year. As far as deferrals go, every team has the ability to do it - Friedman is just outsmarting all of the other GMs. MLB revenues, TV contracts and salaries increase every year - today's money won't be worth as much as tomorrow's money
I'm a dodgers fan and this has become a go to podcast. Insightful, funny, chill and still informative. Hoping you both keep it up into next year's playoffs. 😀Lets go Dodgers! 💙
Blue Jays/Dodgers fan: What else is there to talk about in the off-season besides rumours? Give us the goods when you have them, and stay on point while the season is running, but in the off-season you make do with what you can, and you two are doing a great job.
Love to hear your voice, dedication & good energy flow! Keep up the good work, Ladies!!! We are getting some good candidates for the New Mets! But still want to see & hear some talk about Pete Alonso, we really need him! Please drum up some words about him! 😢He’s the Heart of the Team! 😮 Love you, Ladies! 🎉 Happy December! Good job!
Keep the format! I’ve enjoyed every podcast I’ve watched since the Dodgers/Mets NLCS. At this time of year everyone else is just speculating on rumors cuz it’s interesting. So keep sippin’ on the tea 🫖☕️
U two ladies are incredible. Love your perspective, witty and banter. You’re killing it and I enjoy every minute with your updates. This is the most refreshing, down to earth show I’ve seen in years! Keep it coming!!👏🏼👍🏼
Nice pod, from a Dodgers fan. Regarding the "credit card" characterization of the deferred money, I'm pretty sure that teams are required to put that money aside in an annuity or something year by year. That money is earning interest as well which the Dodgers get to keep, effectively taking the 68M set aside each year down to a cost of only 46M.
The deferred money won't be worth as much in 10 years, Dodgers will probably be raking in 3 billion a year by then. One thing I love about your podcast is you aren't artificially arguing opposite sides of current events, there is enough of that out there. Keep talking about interesting topics like rational people and you will continue to grow. Go Dodgers!
Dodger Fan here… Tommy Tanks really make his name in the NLCS with the 11 RBI I believe he batted in. He’s a player that every team needs to plus in play almost anywhere in the field beside pitcher and catcher. He’s is what Chris Taylor was to us a few years ago until he fell off the face of the earth with his bat. A lot of us especially Doug from Dodger Nation TH-cam channel have been say we need to extend him, even though we had him for one more year before the extension.
As I understand it, deferred money is placed into an escrow account as the player earns it each year. So it's not like the Dodgers will be broke and won't have money to pay the players when the contract is up. BTW, Dodgers fan here and love this podcast! Keep up the good work.
I’m not entirely sure about this, but I think I heard somewhere that Dodgers need to put the deferred money in an escrow account every year that will gain interest and will be worth what it needs to be when it’s time to pay out. So I think the money is already being set aside ahead of time. They shouldn’t have to cough up the money out of nowhere in 10 years.
Walker Buehler deserves a comeback year here in LA. He hand delivered the World Series in game 5. Keep it coming ladies. Love the stats and your take on what we all love.....baseball. An interesting note for me is when I hear how Padres and Giants podcasts cap on Dodger spending. I don't see that with the Mets. If the stands are full and management returns that take in players acquisitions, it's great for the game. Great videos!
Dodger fan, you ladies keep up the amazing work, very knowledgeable,I can't believe you got hate, some people gotta talk smack because their life isn't going like they want and can't get out their mom's basement
TJ Max and Marshall’s reference to great deals in picking up free agents? Man, oh man, I love your podcast girls. Your insight, analysis and humor, not to mention the cuteness factor, will keep me coming back. Great job Samantha and Ashley 🥰
Dodgers guy here. People forget about the revenue sharing program. Every team puts in 48% of their revenue into the pot and then split it up 30 ways. There are several smaller market teams that could absolutely spend more money on their team if they chose to. As far as Tommy, he is the consummate utility player. We all love him. I think you guys will end up with Soto. You could change your channel name to Why am I a Mets fan when I could be a Dodgers fan? 😛
I've noticed people talking about deferred compensation in the MLB & it sounds like people don't fully understand how it works. After 2 seasons (I think) the dodgers will start depositing the deferred payments, those payments are then released however many years later. When ohtani starts getting those $68 million dollar payments whomever is the dodgers GM & owner(s) won't have those funds count against the cap. Deferred contracts AAV only effects the cap during the contract years.
I am very interested in what you have to say about rumors especially when it comes to the Mets

Dodger fan here. Stumbled across this TH-cam channel el during the playoff series and it’s become one of my favorites regarding baseball news. Keep up the good work!! 🫡🫡
This is a Dodger fan that went to 5th thru 9th grade in Syracuse. As an Ashley and Samantha fan I am happy you’re getting Mr. Soto. By the same token I will be feeling for you if (as I suspect) it and he are not going to be all he is cracked up to be. He made big news when he signed with the Padres. Same when he signed with the Yankees. What did they get but flash in the pan for one year? Sorry, for the negativity. And I hope the Dodgers did not suffer with Walker these last few years just to cut him loose now. I think they are smarter than that.
Hi Samantha & Ashley! Another one of your Dodgers fan & follower. I do like the Blake Snell addition to the Dodgers. I look forward to your pod casts as you two beauties know & love the game of baseball! Nice to see how passionate & knowledgeable your discussions are. Refreshing, cute, funny & just good old plain raw baseball tidbits. Keep doing what you’re doing & I am now a subscriber & fan of your podcast. My take, Soto will sign with the Mets. I agree with Ashley, Dodgers not really interested in Soto. Stay warm. ❤
I felt that broke B. I am with you on that. I understand about swiping something away from the Dodgers. Buehler is a dawg. We would like to keep him. Dodger girly here loving the reporting. No worries. Everyone is doing the rumor thing. But winter meetings are next week. Lots of info going to be flying. I would love to be handed a chunk of change. It is a statement about the organization that players are willing to deferring. Love the analysis about deferments. At least the players we got on deferments are not Bobby. I think the transfer portal has made college sports kinda crazy.
Dodger fan answering the Bueheler question. Idk about this one. He showed up when it mattered but oh boy did he have a rough start after coming back from TJ. I loved old Buehler, he’s not old Buehler anymore. If he can get his stuff down with his post TJ arm I think he’ll be good, he’s gotta figure it out though. But it’s a risk, if he stays id be happy, but I wouldn’t over pay. It’s a bit of a risk. However, he showed up at the end and will always be a dodger, if he decides to walk I hope he gets a good contract at a good place, Mets is one of those places. If he goes, I hope he figures his stuff out and continues to have a great career. Also, that the hell’s going on with the New York post thing lol. Never mind I finished the episode and heard it 😂
That hate comment was pretty damn funny. Hope you all are right though, and I think Soto goes to Mets as well. Even if you all are wrong, your show will still continue to get stronger. You all are just too entertaining, quick, smart and most important, just overall good people.
Wow the NLCS just got interesting😂 congrats with Soto the Mets are making their comeback (dodgers fan here but thought of you guys when i heard about Soto)

So when the bill is due, Dodgers payroll won’t be in trouble because the money is already accounted for. It’s like every year setting aside money for the big purchase in the future.
Enjoy listening your takes and thoughts. Keep up the good work.
Another dodger fan, back again for another episode
Hell yeah, we love Tommy Hyunsu Edman, he is a fan-favorite and a grinder that came up BIG for us in the postseason, the well-deserved NLCS MVP
It’s like buying a tee shirt on a credit card for $5 but sold it only a day later on eBay for $20… this is the logic of deferring contacts, most specifically Ohtani’s
Dodger fan here 🫡.. Hi Samantha 💙
Hi Jeff!
YOU DO NEED TO MAKE A MINOR CHANGE. One day a week is simply not enough.
You guys should do a Live stream now and then ✌
Yes!!! A live stream would kick ass!
Great show as usual! Thank you for your information. I look forward to your next podcast.
Another Dodgers fan. I really enjoy your podcast. Both of you are very beautiful and smart. Keep up the great work and work out work
Blue Jays/Dodgers fan: What else is there to talk about in the off-season besides rumours?
Give us the goods when you have them, and stay on point while the season is running, but in the off-season you make do with what you can, and you two are doing a great job.
Love to hear your voice, dedication & good energy flow! Keep up the good work, Ladies!!! We are getting some good candidates for the New Mets! But still want to see & hear some talk about Pete Alonso, we really need him! Please drum up some words about him! 😢He’s the Heart of the Team! 😮 Love you, Ladies! 🎉 Happy December! Good job!
OMG are you actually a fellow Mets fan and not a Dodgers fan?
Keep the format! I’ve enjoyed every podcast I’ve watched since the Dodgers/Mets NLCS. At this time of year everyone else is just speculating on rumors cuz it’s interesting. So keep sippin’ on the tea 🫖☕️
U two ladies are incredible. Love your perspective, witty and banter. You’re killing it and I enjoy every minute with your updates. This is the most refreshing, down to earth show I’ve seen in years! Keep it coming!!👏🏼👍🏼
The TJ MAXX reference was gold. Love you guys
Giants fan here and I enjoy this podcast immensely.
Dodger fan here and enjoying your content. Seems like a lot of us are here. Keep up the good work!
Edman is a good sign. He’s a great ball player
Edman is great! Real fans know he is great!
P.S. You girls are 😍
Why do I enjoy this podcast so much lol.
I smash that LIKE button even beore I push play. Love y'all fr fr fr
Keep rocking! Go Dodgers and Go Mets! 🥳 🤘
Go Dodgers!
If I understand this, next Monday (December 9th) begins the Winter Meetings? What impact on Free Agency might that have?
Dodger Fan here… Tommy Tanks really make his name in the NLCS with the 11 RBI I believe he batted in. He’s a player that every team needs to plus in play almost anywhere in the field beside pitcher and catcher. He’s is what Chris Taylor was to us a few years ago until he fell off the face of the earth with his bat. A lot of us especially Doug from Dodger Nation TH-cam channel have been say we need to extend him, even though we had him for one more year before the extension.
Why aren't more people following this podcast?
You mean why aren't more Mets fans following this podcast.
Congratulation on your success.... Look forward to episodes every week
24:55 Samantha behind the plate, trying desperately to frame ‘Wild Thing’ Wenskoski’s 99mph sinker with crazy arm-side run.
Crying laughing
As always...Great show! It "hit like crack"! 😂 Keep it up ladies and hope you both had a great Thanksgiving, and have a Merry Christmas! 🎄
I love this podcast. Yet another Dodger fan calling you out for a great job! Don’t change a thing
Stearns certainly gets the benefit of the doubt, but Snell vs. Montas just widens the talent gap with the Dedgors.
Dodgers fan here and luv the podcast
Dodger fan, you ladies keep up the amazing work, very knowledgeable,I can't believe you got hate, some people gotta talk smack because their life isn't going like they want and can't get out their mom's basement
TJ Max and Marshall’s reference to great deals in picking up free agents? Man, oh man, I love your podcast girls. Your insight, analysis and humor, not to mention the cuteness factor, will keep me coming back. Great job Samantha and Ashley 🥰
30:00 Dodgers fan here congratulating you two for sticking it to the guy and also landing Soto like you wanted
great episode! Thank you very much
This is a Dodger fan that went to 5th thru 9th grade in Syracuse.
Stay warm. ❤
A podcast called 'Why am I a Mets fan', that's taped in Syracuse with Mets jerseys on the wall but talks about the Dodgers, is wild.
Congrations for the Mets and Mets fans for getting Juan Soto.
No emergency podcast?😂
I'm sure it's coming. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
Dodgers fan here keep it going 💯
Dodger fan here. You cuties are awesome! Reliable, entertaining no bs resource. "J.S. going to hit like crack" 😅 Hope Mets get J.S.
Dodger fan here, great vid, keep it up!! 🎉
Dodger fan here! Just checking in with America's favorite baseball gal pals!
Walker was coming off injuries and is just getting back to his old form. Anyone who gets him gets a very solid pitcher. I will miss him.
Wow the NLCS just got interesting😂 congrats with Soto the Mets are making their comeback (dodgers fan here but thought of you guys when i heard about Soto)
