I find it so weird when people hate on Garp. He’s taking this just as badly as every other person affected. One of the central themes of the story is following your own path and carving out your own destiny. Luffy and Ace were always going to be pirates and Garp couldn’t do anything about it. Everyone involved knew the consequences of their actions. Ace himself said that he lived a life with no regrets at the end. He knew that his death was always a possibility and deep down, Garp knew that this was a possibility that could occur if they ever became pirates. Hence trying to mold them into marines instead. Garp was trying to avoid Ace or Luffy becoming another Roger
And what the hell do you want Garp to do at Marineford lol? At the end of the day, he stayed with the Marines despite not agreeing with a lot of their philosophies because he still believed in his idea of justice. Okay so Garp breaks out his own grandson from prison or the marineford platform and let’s say they somehow escape. Now what? Now he’s a fugitive from the very institution he’s done so much justice and good in and he isn’t able to do that anymore. He becomes the very opposite of what he stands for. Not to mention they probably still get folded. Crazy thing is he still went for it! He had to get Sengoku to restrain because despite his philosophy and his ideals of justice, that’s still his grandson. He was caught in the middle until the absolute very end. He’s taking it even harder cause he promised to take care of Ace man. It’s not his fault Ace decided to become a pirate. Ace followed his own destiny and chose how he wanted to live.

I mean his responsible for created a bond between dadan and the kids. He force and threaten dadan to take care of them. And she actually take care of them. Even though she take care of them in harsh way, they still bonded. Then there’s goes garp choosing his job instead. Like sure he knows the consequences of going against the marines. But the dude is not weak to take care of himself. Like it’s obvious people that wanted to save ace were going together, garp can easily just joined them for wanting to save ace. Just by saying he wants to kill akainu is not enough to forgive him. Like imagine forcing other people to take care of ace, but then you just let ace died because of your job. Not that he doesn’t know that the world government are corrupted, but he still work under them.

Ace is stupid that’s for sure, that’s why he is garp grandson. He stills weak at the time, especially his heart. We already know both luffy and ace are stupid from the backstory. They listen to their heart more than their brain. Also garp want his grandson to be like him, but he literally meet them like what, once in 2 months. How can you want to set the kids life, but you’re nowhere close to the kids. Dadan has more bond with the kids than his own granddad. This one doesn’t make even more sense

Ace died because of himself, yes, but Garp could've tried to a avoid it. As his grandpa, he was responsible for him. He chose job over family. Not saying it was a wrong choice, but it was not the best choice either. I can only imagine how disappointed I'd be if I were Ace, seeing my own family abandons me when I need his help more than ever. You can't expect strangers to care about you, but family is above all. Garp made the right choice as a Navy soldier, but the wrong choice as a grandpa. Of course he deserves to be blamed by Dadan.
I want to see Queen Latifah play Dadan in the live action. Can anyone think of a better actress to represent Dadan?

Because Ace and Luffy are "the good guys" despite Ace being part of a traditional pirate crew that ransacks other people's territories and charges protection fees from their owned lands, while Luffy being the leader of a crew that steals valuables wherever they go as they help people they befriend (they wouldn't help them at all if they didn't make friends with them tho, like how they didn't help people in whole cake to get rid of Big Mom because they were there just to find out what happened with Sanji)
Modern day thinking, critical thinking, politics, braindead, call it what you will, the world is black and white for them and they justify any wrongdoings, methods and foul play of those who they consider the good guys.
