@@Vic64Y my calopsite do not like the sunflower seeds ;) but i put myself into trouble to buy different birds seeds and i make a mix here in North Italy they do not have all the kinds of seeds by kilos, at my first trip at Greece i will take some, also we have chlorophyll per kilos in Greece (like the yellow or red vitamins) that i have to buy. I planted some seeds and he eats the green easily without problems at his poo-poo like with vegetables. Basic i try to folow the natural diet and not what the humans think or want. his instinct from season to season or when plumage changes is a lot strong and i folow him... lots sickness at calopsite are not because they have the wrong diet but because humans make couples from brothers and sisters so the DNA transfer from generation to generation all vulnerabilities making it even stronger also important is to not trasfer food from your mouth, like many do, because calopsite and other parrots have this habit, to stay in a safe distand when you are sick, I avoid direct kissing on his nose ( at the top of his head is more safe for him) ect. antibodies of the animals are not the same as humans and needs special attention!!! The seeds that some avoid as bad food, is the best for their stomach, gastric juices are so strong by their nature for the digestion of the seeds the "healthy diet of humans" only trouble will bring them
Is very simply to folow the nature and what they eat out of the cage and know that some birds like something more and dislike others
And yes if you do not give them food all day the night they will come up of your hand to eat, or they will eat boiled rice and puree of fruits BUT this is not normal, is what you want and !!not what they want!!

But to avoid the FLD, which it's the worst and most common threat for them, they should eat not too much fatty seeds, nor breeding paste with pigments, also not too much fruits neither sunflower seeds.
And you have to add to their diet LIVER PROTECTORS, both, LIPOTROPIC (containing some of the following: carnitine, choline, betaine, metionine) and DETOX / REGENERATING (those which contain thistle milk, boldo, artichoke extract). You should go to your vet office or to your pet store to ask what brands of liver protectors for pet birds are available on your country. Also you can buy them online. This is not just advisable, but it's necessary, or your pet bird very likely will die prematurely, or even will die still young.
Liver protectors are not medicine but cheap food supplements manufactured by pet bird vet laboratories that remove the fat from the liver, clean it and favor its recovery. @@Vic64Y my calopsite do not like the sunflower seeds ;) but i put myself into trouble to buy different birds seeds and i make a mix
here in North Italy they do not have all the kinds of seeds by kilos, at my first trip at Greece i will take some, also we have chlorophyll per kilos in Greece (like the yellow or red vitamins) that i have to buy. I planted some seeds and he eats the green easily without problems at his poo-poo like with vegetables. Basic i try to folow the natural diet and not what the humans think or want. his instinct from season to season or when plumage changes is a lot strong and i folow him... lots sickness at calopsite are not because they have the wrong diet but because humans make couples from brothers and sisters so the DNA transfer from generation to generation all vulnerabilities making it even stronger
also important is to not trasfer food from your mouth, like many do, because calopsite and other parrots have this habit, to stay in a safe distand when you are sick, I avoid direct kissing on his nose ( at the top of his head is more safe for him) ect. antibodies of the animals are not the same as humans and needs special attention!!!
