I don't get this complaint. Not like Asian movies don't exist. We're already watching movies such as Train to Busan and Parasite worldwide. So much Asian dramas as well. You don't hear westerners complaining about not receiving representation in those.
In those cases they are in highly homogenous countries, it can't be helped, but the west is mixed in those countries Asian lead roles can happen, but it doesn't
Asians always have leading roles in movies produced in Asia and no one minds. Why is it only western films that people want to see foreigners take lead roles in? I don’t mind an Asian lead in a Hollywood movie, but pushing for it is just a strange mindset.
just a guess bc i don’t think i’m educated enough lol but it might be because hongkong and a lot of east asian countries are largely homogenous, so there’s less of a Want for more of their movies to have lead actors from races. Also the US is very culturally diverse and i think people want hollywood movies to better represent that. Hollywood movies are also usually screened in cinemas worldwide lol like idk if you can just go to any random cinema outside of asia and expect to find a lot of asian movies yknow (which leads back to asian movies having less of a demand for lead actors of different races)
It isnt like that, if u r born in the west and living in the west, you deserve equal opportunity regardless of colour and race. Same for living in the east, it should be in the same everywhere.
@@jemma-joon only 5.6% of the US is Asian, and a much smaller number of those people choose professions such as acting. Typically Asian families push for their children to become professionals rather than artists or actors. So it would be reasonable to assume that only 2-5% of Hollywood movies have Asian leads, and that’s more or less what we have now.
Because in those Asian countries, foreigners/non-asian are a very very tiny minority, while in Western countries they are a family large minority, but always gets delegated to side character roles
@@SaintNyx you'd be right about the numbers of Asians in NA, but Asian writers in Hollywood are actual actively discouraged against even creating Asian starring screenplays for "marketability reasons" despite Hollywood incessantly trying to push blockbusters to sell in Asia. Whatever, people like me are creating blockbuster brands starring full Asians because I care about the consumer not the middleman.
