  • This was a viewer-suggested live performance of Queen at their concert at Wembley in 1986, with "Now I'm Here". This was a fun jam.

This was a song written by Brian while he was stricken with hepatitis during their first US tour and having to leave early. This was a treat to turn on computer this morning to find this! This was one of their early songs that lasted the test of time. Played at almost every show, a fan favorite! Thank you for reacting to this and sticking with Queen, they have so much more in their catalog.

Now I'm Here and Killer Queen are on the third album Sheer Heart Attack.
Our Friends and Neighbours too had the album Xmas 74. These two songs were the only ones he played off the album. I loved Now I'm Here coming out of one Speaker and Now I'm There coming out of the other speaker. Wembley 86 was the last concerts with Freddie. There are some clips of them performing at the Rainbow in 74 on TH-cam. Freddie and Queen were on top form then. The Rainbow Concert is also a film and my friend told me about it as he saw it at the Cinema.

Thank you so much! This is one of the energetic fun songs, which comes over so much better in a live performance than from the album. All four of them shine at once, which makes the result absolutely EPIC!
Talking about Roger's drumming in this song - while also carrying the backing vocals - there's one video of this performance (6m 17s of it) which focuses exclusively on Roger. Every time I watch it, I'm astonished that he wasn't so exhausted that he'd need a little lie down before continuing the show... it's Called - Queen 'Now I'm here' multicam Roger Taylor.

You REALLY need to start next year off with a reaction to The Prophet's Song. Brian wrote that one about a dream he had. It's not a ballad, although it has a part that is ... different. Brian wrote this song about the first tour that Queen embarked upon in which they were the support group for Mott The Hoople (the only time Queen toured and was not the headlining band). Queen was asked to be the support group for the European tour and were so well received by the Hoople audiences that they were asked remain with Hoople on the US leg of the tour. Sadly, Brian developed hepatitis and Queen had to leave the US portion of the tour. Solid song that Freddie delivers masterfully. Queen still includes this song in most of their touring performances. As one might expect, adrenalin runs high while performing on stage in front of so many people, whose energy in turns feeds the band. I would imagine it would be difficult for Freddie with all that energy running through him to just stand back and watch a several minute guitar solo. I think he uses the scaffoldings to stretch out and work off some of that excess energy and also to keep his pace going. Just my thoughts on the matter, I have never heard where Freddie has commented on it one way or the other. Thank you for your reactions.

I would suggest One Vision the opening song and Tie your mother down, the second song they performed live at Wembley 86, the band is on 🔥 and so is the crowd. FYI when the music companies' executives that picked the songs for play on the radio in early 80s realized Freddie was gay they refused to play Queen music. Esp. when Queen's video for "I Want To Break Free" featured all the band members dressed in drag representing characters from Coronation Street, a long running TV show in GB. (Roger Taylor made a fantastic looking girl!) The production companies asked Queen to submit a different video and Freddie refused. Queen "lost" America as a result and had many outstanding hits all over the world, but not in the USA. That's probably why you haven"t heard many of their songs. Keep up your great work!

I love to compare this performance to earlier live performances. In the earlier performances, they would open the song with Freddie being seen singing the line "Now I'm here" on one side of the stage amidst the darkness and dry ice, and a few bars later, at "Now I'm there," he would "appear" on the other side of the stage, an illusion created by an identically-dressed stagehand. The opening sound effects were created by a roadie manually delaying the sound in some of the feeds.
If you which to see one of the earlier performances, watch "Now I'm Here (Live at the Hammersmith Odeon, 1975)" - th-cam.com/video/uvOuRt_BiRI/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1
FYI - A Night at the Odeon is the band's Christmas Eve performance at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1975, filmed by the BBC. The show was broadcast on BBC2 and BBC Radio 1, and included one of the first live performances of "Bohemian Rhapsody".
The song, "Now I'm Here" was written by Brian and is about the hard, fast, good, and bad times of extensive touring, which the band did during their first few years. As the band has been quick to note, their success did not come overnight - success in America particularly was laid by many years of touring there in the 1970s. He began writing it from his hospital bed.
In 1974 Queen went on their first American tour as the support band for "Mott the Hoople's' American tour. Queen had a great time on tour with "Mott the Hoople", but unfortunately, Brian fell ill near the end of the tour with severe hepatitis and the Queen left the tour before the end to bring Brian back to the UK.
He spent many of the recording sessions for Sheer Heart Attack recovering in hospital. He since admitted that he was nervous that the band would find a replacement, and he was determined to keep working to stop that from happening. As it turned out, the band never even considered replacing Brian, and John doubled as lead guitarist along with bass player on several recordings (like Killer Queen) for the album Sheer Heart Attack. The band made sure to leave space in the songs they were already working on for him to add his solo parts when he was healthy enough.
In "Now I'm Here", Brian memorializes touring from city to city (Now I'm here, now I'm there). They were so inexperienced when they started but "Mott the Hoople" acted as mentors to them and taught them the ropes of touring and they learned. As Brian wrote:
A baby I was when you took my hand
And the light of the night burned bright
And the people all stared didn't understand
But you knew my name on sight
Whatever came of you and me
    America's new bride to be
    Ooh, don't worry, baby,
    I'm safe and sound
Down in the dungeon just Peaches and me
    Don't I love her so?
Yeah, she made me live again
    Yeah
"Down in the Dungeon, just Peaches and me" was a personal line for Brian as Peaches was the name of his girlfriend at the time, and "The Dungeon" is a famous rock and roll bar in New Orleans's French Quarter. Just as the line " Down in the city just Hoople and me" is a nod to the group, Mott the Hoople.
The following lines paint a metaphoric description of what it is like to perform on stage:
Yeah, a thin moon me in a smoke-screen sky
Where the beams of your love light chase
Don't move, don't speak, don't feel no pain
With the rain running down my face
Your matches still light up the sky
And many a tear lives on in my eye
"Now I'm Here" holds the record as the Queen song which lasted in their live set the longest, from its release in 1974 right through to their final stadium shows with Freddie in 1986. It also regularly appeared on live compilations.

@@CoachCastTV I have what I believe is the perfect ballad video for you and Mrs. Coach - "Love of my Life - Queen In Rock In Rio 85" - th-cam.com/video/gblZ2drKK1M/w-d-xo.html. " Rock in Rio" was a 10-day music festival that about 1.38 million people attended from the 11th-20 the of January 1985.
It is 4 minutes and 24 seconds of just Freddie and Brian performing without John and Roger (Freddie claims they were backstage having a drink). But in this performance, Freddie leads the audience in singing the song for a lot of the performance instead of singing it himself. (They knew all the words perfectly even though Rio is in Brazil and speaks Portuguese).
I realize that 4 minutes might put your endurance of ballads to the test but for your perseverance, you will get to enjoy Brian, instead of playing his Red Special, playing a 12-string acoustic guitar. Also, it is fun to watch Freddie direct the singing of the audience.
The live arrangement they performed of "Love of My Life" is totally different from the studio recording which was written and performed with the piano. The studio version also included Brian playing the harp instead of his guitar (an instrument he had no idea how to play when Freddie told him that he wanted Brian to play the harp). It is complicated to play and he only was able to accomplish the swooping harp glissandos by pasting together multiple takes of single chords. Roger played drums and John played bass on the studio recording.
