For anyone wondering, I’m planning on a calling a winner for the headlight bulb giveaway next video. Just been busy getting the fleet in order so I still have at least one car to legally drive!
Have you worked on any 3rd gen Hemi? I'm thinking of building one off a junkyard but don't know if the pre-eagle engines can take parts from the newer hemi 5.7 engines.
Have you tried your nearest Parts Authority for any of your parts needs yet? I’m sure you will see they have a huge selection and a better deal than Autozone
My 05 Yukon has really liked the gmt900 swap. Powerstop geomet rotors and akebo o pads have been good for 4-5 years already and rotors still look new. Also got the red powder coated brackets and calipers from them when they were stupid cheap one time $125 for the pair (brackets and rotors both sides, no core charge)
Always good to compare prices. Sometimes the shipping cost for rock auto will push the price high enough to where it makes more sense to buy your parts locally.
Thanks to you Matt, I did this brake upgrade 2 years ago and the brakes still look good, I ended up going with the duralast Elite brake pads and they been pretty good and no dust on the wheels. Try them out next time
I just did Powerstop Z-36 on my 2010 Cadillac Escalade ESV. that big girl stops so hard I actually completely unloaded the rear suspension on a test emergency stop. It is the large Z36 extreme towing Kit. I'll never regret the replacement. Powerstops are proven winners in my garage.
I could be wrong but I would imagine the hydroboost is more powerful than a standard booster? If that's the case it could just be a worn out /seeping unit. They can be rebuilt or I know newer Duramax Hydroboost models fit Tahiti with minor mods.
I upgraded to the GTM900’s but picked crappy rotors. But even new it was ok with 35’s. But I moved up to the newer 4 piston calipers from 2020’s and that’s a great upgrade.
@@mr.cunninghamjr7058 I did add a washer on each side to both bolts, to push out the caliper and center it over the rotor. I didn’t have to shave down the caliper, since I’m running 20’s.
Astra e-brake cable tends to rust out, locking rear brakes. The cable is cheap. We put some zip ties at the back to try to reduce water ingress. The cable end is facing upwards, so water just seems to drip inside. EDIT - didn't hear that your problem was front pads lol.
Matt I swapped my 04 Silverado after seeing your first video on the GMT900 brake conversion. and it was a big difference also the 04 Silverado has Vacuum brake assist.
I've been waiting to do this set up on my 2006 GMC Yukon. However, at 145K miles I'm still rocking the original pads and rotors front and rear. They are getting quite low though.
Hey Matt, great video as always! I have a 2003 Cadillac Escalade 6.0 Awd, what’s the newest model caliper conversion that works? I’ve heard people have been able to put even 2022 and newer calipers, have you seen that?
@lsxmatt Hey I mentioned before but wasn’t sure if you saw it. I have a new set of take-off front rotors and 4-piston calipers loaded with pads that you can have for free if you cover shipping. They’re from a 2019 Sierra. I bought 2 complete sets and only used one on my ‘06 Yukon. Anywho, great vid and it’s always good to see Tahiti get some love.
Thanks thats very nice of you but I already picked up a set a few years back when I was modifying Tahiti. They’re going to end up on the Escalade soon enough.
Do you have stock torsion bar keys, or did you put the "leveling" keys in? I have an 04 avalanche with 185k on it, Need to do the entire front (one of the bearings is toast, other side axle needs a swap, prob needs some ball joints done, bushings, prob need body mount bushings...) -- was thinking of adding a basic leveling key in to help lift the front just a tad, one side lift key is already maxed out. also just sent the gauge cluster out to get repaired. Giong through your whole playlist now. I've got quite a bit of rust in the typical GM spots so I'm going to be repairing that at some point too probably.
My 2004 tahoe also does that weird only breaking on the middle part of the rotor. Any fix for it? They also seem to overheat quite quickly if I don't engine brake. I live in not so flat country tough, Norway
I used the same pads as you and got a shitty wear pattern like you as well, probably gonna switch pads and hope i didn't have the Wagner's on too long.
Did you put the 16in wheels back on it? And does the brake still fit with that? I’m thinking about putting them on my 04 suburban but I don’t want to go to a bigger wheel.
When you upgraded to the GMT900 13" rotors and calipers... did you also use the *GMT900 Caliper Bracket or the old brackets*? I couldn't tell in your installation. but, the video says you were able to use the "Factory Caliper Bracket Bolts" th-cam.com/video/E11z7hLzpxw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=C3IrxR-wXHsBceOP&t=655 Down in your description, it showed the *Complete Budget Friendly Kit* and the kit doesn't include new GMT900 caliper brackets. Just wanting to clarify, as my suburban is my primary vehicle in the winter and I don't want it torn down and needing more parts. Thanks.

I installed '22 Tahoe PPV 6 piston Brembo Calipers/pads & 16" rotors on my 06 Yukon Denali. Direct bolt-on.
How big of wheels are you running?
Is it really a direct bolt right up tho???
@Grandpuba1069 I'd like to know is it really direct bolt on no mods.
My guess you are running at least 20" wheels?
What wheels are you running?
I did the 4 piston off a 2020 Silverado. Bolts right up and works great

Just split the orders, shipping drops so much

I greatly appreciate your effort and dedication to these videos, Matt.
Im so glad i dont have to worry about state inspection.

Best upgrade I ever did. My 2002 avalanche with all terrain im able to lock up the wheels. Thanks very happy with this upgrade.
I could be wrong but I would imagine the hydroboost is more powerful than a standard booster?

Again that torque wrench action is mint

@@chaselesser3191 what sized washer?
@@tae08 it was something like 1/2”. But it varies which fits better depending on brand.

Ya some people tell me they hate hydroboost but i assume they haven't driven both
Very nice. I watched your original video on this .

Did the size upgrade a while back on the fronts but recently the brakes have gotten super sloppy. Im going to tear into mine now
Love the Tahoe content. I have an '05

Im seeing a 4 piston or 6 piston oem upgrade coming for the eacalade! The 2019up fit the gmt 800 and gmt 900 as long as the rims clear calipers
Amazing how much better of a truck the gmt800 is vs the gmt900s
Minus the 4L60E I am right there with you. I just wish the GMT800 had more gears like the 6L80E in the GMT900.
Be nice if I could do a drum to disc using the factory parts (keep parking brake) 07 Classic Silverado
You can get caliper rebuild kit on rock auto 12 bucks a piece maybe save your calipers use them later.
You should have got a least a 2 inch lift and a 33x12.50r17.

@paulyshore98 I’ll take them 😂
Calipers, rotors, do you need to wheels as well, or can one get away with the older wheels? '01 Tahoe here. Love that beast.
They’ll clear the stock 17’s fine. Anything smaller won’t work.
if it was just the brakes , ide probably do it, but i believe i need rims and tires too
16" are too small, correct me if im wrong
The early escalades have the twin pistons as well.
I saw a squirt of fluid at about 8:58.

I have an 05 suburban z71. Will this work with the stock wheels?
Nice
Did I see that the studs on the drivers side were loose as you pulled the rotor off?
I think thats just the hub rotating left to right, you can see the axle move as it happens.
My 2004 tahoe also does that weird only breaking on the middle part of the rotor. Any fix for it? They also seem to overheat quite quickly if I don't engine brake. I live in not so flat country tough, Norway

Always have the caliper bleeder open when you compress the caliper.
Don't listen to anyone who can't even spell caliper right kids 😂
I have a 03 Tahoe I am looking to replace my bucket seats upfront with a bench do the bolt hole pattern lineup anybody know??
I feel bad for you having to use that style of double piston caliper tool it requires some serious grip strength to push those pads in
No it doesnt
I just use a C clamp and the old pad.
I just used a big flathead.
I have a 06 Tahoe with 17 in rims will these rotors and calipers fit? Can I just get any trim 2009 Tahoe calipers and they will bolt right up
yes. This is why they went to a 17" wheel. 16" are to small
What brake hoses are those?
Love seeing you do some of the same brake job mini-jobs that Eric O @southmainautollc shows us as his bread and buttah:)
Does the GMT 900 upgrade work for the rear brakes ?
Rear doesn’t need an upgrade, same size as the gmt900s already
Do calipers just bolt on dorectly to the gmt800?
Yea you just need the caliper and bracket from a 900
How are the bilsteins you put on a while back holding up?
Im back on stock shocks. I sold the bilsteins when I put the coil over on.
What's the difference between the 04 and 09 calipers?
I believe they’re just a little larger to accommodate the bigger gmt900 rotor.
What brand rotors did you use? Idk what brand to get that’s not $100 and not crappy.
What parts are needed for the swap and what do you torque your lugs to?
Lugs were 140ft lbs. For parts you just need Gmt900 pads, rotors, calipers and caliper brackets.
Those gmt 900 brakes fit with my stock 05 17 Escalade wheels?
I would think so. Mine are 17’s as well and they fit.
What happened with the headlights 😂
Calling a winner for the bulb giveaway next video.
When changing to the gmt900 calipers am I still able to use gmt800 pads and rotors? Or must those get swapped also?
Yea you need to change everything. You’ll need the caliper, caliper bracket, pads and rotors from the gmt900
Awesome thanks,
Did you put the 16in wheels back on it? And does the brake still fit with that? I’m thinking about putting them on my 04 suburban but I don’t want to go to a bigger wheel.
The stock z71 wheels are 17” and they clear. 16 won’t.
Thank you
You're going to put new calipers on and not clean the rust off the hub mating surface
You might need new calipers if you have uneven brake wear.
I want to see you do a cat eye conversion next
Please no cat eyes are ugly
