  • In this, edition 121 of PowerTec 10 DV highlights some of the less-than-helpful tech put out by some very creditable 'big time' TH-cam channels. This includes far from optimal ram stack design even among top tier machines such as F1, CanAm and a whole load of others that you would have thought lead the way in what appears to be such a simple area of design.
All those fancy formulas for calculating the diameter of the header primary pipe - well forget those because half the time they fail to get the right size. Here DV has, in his typical style, done your homework for you.
But this video is much more than that even to the pint of revealing the existence of two SECRET engine projects that will be radically different to anything seen before - and there is more! Just watch and see for yourself.

Dear professor Vizard, I am an old school guy playing catch up and refresh and likewise have brain issues as a result of oxygen defecit due to extended surgeries, so I completely identify with your situation and gives me inspiration and hope. My professional experience was a master utilities mechanic at was at the time the largest single steel making facility in the world but had to retire in my 30's due to the injuries. I discovered your site last summer while doing an upgrade-restore to an 84 c4 removing the crossfire system and doing an engine refresh with Jegs new vortec heads looking for info on upgrading them. I was impressed immediately with your knowledge and continued to watch more and more of your videos. I went through the process of recovering my long lost password just so I could like and subscribe to your channel. I noticed quite an improvement in the editing especially as far as the sound quality is concerned. One thing i would like to mention however are the jagged areas around the spark plug in the combustion chambers and what affects they have if any and how to improve that if possible. Thank you beyond measure Professor! Sincerely, Greg

I too am interested with the outcome of mission impossible. I just pulled my 318, low compression, 4bbl TQ, built to NHRA Stock eliminator specs, off the dyno and made 325HP. Power fell off due to inadequate valve springs. I was hoping for the finale of the project prior to my looking for addition valve train weight reduction( as per your channel recommendations). Thanks for all your work. Andy is lucky by having you as a neighbor.

DV, you're going to be very pleased with HPTuners. I've been using it for nearly 20 years on GM stuff, and it's an excellent tuning platform. There's a bit of a learning curve with figuring out how the OEM stuff works, which isn't always very intuitive, but I'm sure it's nothing you can't handle!

Always informative information. 👍 David I think one thing to consider to grow your audience more is to consider doing a generic porting video on the modern day LS3 and LT direct injection heads. I think you're missing out on the the primary age group of 20 - 35 year old hotroding community. I know myself that all your previous content will apply to next generation engines, but the newer generation won't see the correlation between the new and old. Unless you demonstrate this on the newer trending LS / LT Cylinder Heads. Anyways hope this suggestion is taken in kind regards.
Many Many Thanks for all you've done for the Hot Rodding Community!

The cold air intake should probably work best if the intake is approximately 20 to 30cm off the ground. I say this because in the military you are tought that the air is coolest at that height above the ground. So set up the air intake at that height and see if the teacking for survival is true and correct. If so it will make a difference with the air temp intake for a car.

My 09 BMW 128i has a Cold Air Intake using a K&N air filter.
It has a heat block off plate. Which im sure helps to a point.
But more important is the hood. Its a Seibon carbon fiber hood with vents. The vents cool down the engine bay drastically. Which im sure is the reason for the benefit of the cold air intake. Since its actually pulling in air from a drastically cooled engine bay.

I live near 110kmh highway and I’ve got an air temp gauge with two probes, they’re cheap and relatively sensitive and can be used for multiple tasks! I’ve got it mounted in my charge pipe before and after the intercooler but can easily relocate it or fit it to my other car which still has the oem intake, I’ll have a tinker with it tonight after it cools down. I have never worked on the cosworth head, but from what I know there's a lot more power to be gotten out of them. With plenty of metal for porting & valve work. They were "detuned" for production cars. Also the engines were down sized to 2.0L for race class. I think the block is the same as standard 2.3L, thereby interchangeable. The extra 300cc would be worth some more power as well. I got one....

@@jimlathrop8603 I have owned several Cosworth Vegas since 94 so I'm quite "basically" familiar with them,,the only difference between the 2.3l block and the2.0l block that cam in the Cosworth is the Cosworth has a crankcase vent tube that connects to the air filter. I gasket matched the intake and cleaned uap the rough factory machining on the intake and head but without putting it on a Dyno I don't know if any difference was made🤷,, several people in the CVOA have done extensive work on them. High compression pistons, cams, Webber's, but it would be quite interesting to see if making significantly higher pump gas compression 11:1/12:1 or higher is doable and if the crank could be drilled to hollow the rod ends to lighten the rotating assembly and help with vibration

Doesn't turning the boost up with a bigger exhaust result in hp gain? I'm trying to work out what the exhaust port is meant to do with two ports.

We have an Eco-Boost how do I take the intake temperature.
I’m happy to help. I have to say it’s freezing here in IL.

David, I’m really enjoying your videos! Do you think the turbo work you discuss at 14:35 would also work for a 2022 Subaru WRX? It also has a twin-scroll turbo, and I’m curious if I could get a bit more power from it. Seems like a good project for someone who wants a step up from bolt-ons. Do you agree?

David. You need to reach out to another utube creator. "Engineering Explained" could be a very good partnership.
Take note...the new corvettes new NA 355 makes more power than the CO7 super charged version. You could say the info I have shared and product development from the 13" rule is being used to make its 690hp.

Get that cold air pickup/ intake in a cold high pressure area adj to rad with some sort of LARGE dia opening and get damned air SHOVED in there. Edit: dont forget to at least foil wrap the intake ducting Exhaust wrap and an extraction for underhood heat
