“We are opposed to this facility not only because of the ecological damage it inflicts upon the river and ourselves, but also because of FirstLight’s greenwashing of its operation,” Lake Pleasant resident Terisa Turner said of Northfield Mountain in a statement. “This is not green and FirstLight must tell the truth.”
This entire project was deemed obsolete as soon as it was finished back in the early 1970s. It costs more to pump the river water up to the top of the mountain then it can make in electricity and that's back when they charged fair prices. It also does not benefit local new england, the Canadian company that owns it sells off the electricity to the highest bidders around the country. Also, the constant pumping of the river water up and down the mountain runs against the river's natural southern flow. It has slowly destroyed the river banks and sensitive ecosystem. It's a shame these massive companies don't really care about the environment, thosecare just ad slogans.
could be great if it wasn't sucking the water out of the Connecticut river. nevermind that it relies on cheap nighttime power usually provided by other fossil fuel plants
