When I was a teenager and still living with my mother out in the country, catnip grew wild on the property. Whenever I was out mowing the lawn, Cato would wrap his body around the plants to make sure I didn't hit them. A classic "don't touch my stash" move.

Was thinking i might grow some this summer so i can just pick some & stick it in my pockets whenever needed. Hadn't thought of the possible consequences though. Well, that settles it, definitely planting some.
When i was in high school, a friend's family bread chocolate Burmese. One year, they had 27 kittens born in a 3 week period. Once the youngest were a month old, i would visit often, lay on the floor & let them crawl all over me. Being allergic, it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but, the bloodshot, puffy, itchy eyes that felt like they were full of sand & the prolonged respiratory difficulties after were soooo worth it.

One of the last cats I owned, I think she was a calico. She had the black, orange and white fur you usually see. My mom got her from a friend when I was about 15. I remember being in my room taking a nap when I was woken up by this loud yowling. I thought one of the kids in the neighborhood had found a cat and was torturing it and was about to go chastise them until it came down our apartment breezeway. Weirdly, I knew its destination was our house...my brothers socialized a lot.
And I was right. The front door opened and the yowling grew louder. I came out my room to run into my mom walking very fast down the hallway with this harried expression on her face. From her shoulder she pried the claws of a kitten out of her skin, dumped it on my shoulder and huffed "Happy birthday!" before going into her room, lol! It was a week before my birthday.
Shocked, I took the kitten in my room, again dug its claws out of skin, and put her on my bed. She went on tiptoe, instantly distrustful. Poor baby, lol. I got down on the floor to make myself smaller and that helped. She adjusted really fast though. I decided to name her Spicy, as she looked like salt, pepper and seasoning salt :) And about a month later, we would get a beautiful half Siamese, half...something else, white Persian or something whom we'd name Sugar, a cat who KNEW she was gorgeous. Beautiful blue eyes, creamy white fur with some of the Siamese tan on her back and the darker brown around her ears and the tip of her tail. She was several months older than Spicy and though their meeting started a bit rocky, Spicy quickly became happy with her new friend. The two stayed up every night chasing each other around the house. I miss those two.

Grab my cat by the neck and insert about 1/2 inch of q-tip in her. Well she screamed her lungs and then rolled all over in a fit of ecstasy. Long story, she came out of heat. I had a male calico, there was something wrong with that cat in the head though. He would try to jump our fence miss and hit the side or fly too far over it among many other oddities. He lived to be about 19 though great cat who loved every kitten he met.

I grew some catnip on our back deck one time. 2 of our cats didn't care that much for it. A sniff or two, maybe a nibble. But one cat (Louie) loved it. He would sit and eat it for a few minutes then go inside, lay down and just "ride the buzz." An hour or so later he would get up and go eat some more catnip. Rinse and repeat. Our dog (Snickers) watched him do this and HE started eating the catnip and "riding the buzz." As Snickers was bigger, it would take more to get him buzzed. This led to the catnip almost being eaten away. They left it alone for a few weeks and it did grow back and the stoners started their lifestyle again.

Whitney White that’s called a dilute calico. Dilute is a color expression gene that makes the colors lighter. So the orange becomes peach and the black becomes gray. I currently own a long haired dilute calico named LuLu.

i was raised by a calico cat. she was very small and soft - and jealous! i've known other folks with calicos, and they all say the same. they don't tend to play well with other pets. my first grade teacher gave her to me when her cat had kittens. she finally died when i was 26 or so while i was in the air force.

When I was young (about 100 years ago) I spent summers working in an Up State NY farming community. When I got into Jr. Hi, and started getting exposed to science, I began to notice details of local farm/barn cats. Polydactyl cats were common. I always noted the occasional Torti. When I went to a farm as little as a mile away, there was an entirely different mix. Took me years to undertstnd that they were separate colonies, each of which were fed and (somewhat) cared for by the family on the farm.

OMG as a teenager I bought some Valerian Root tea to see how it would help with sleep. As soon as the box was open and my cat was near it, he went nuts and started busting open all the teabags and rubbing himself all over it. That was the day I learned how close Valerian is to cat nip

Well that explains why I was enjoying the smell of catnip the last time I gave it to my cats. Apparently you have to roll it between your fingers to release the oils & they weren't kidding when the bag say strongest in the world.
It leaves quite the strong scent on your fingers.

Cat's can get addicted to catnip. My sisters old cat was so addicted that he dug it up from half a meter snow in the winter (apparently it stays green in the winter). He was a bit on an odd one though so it might just have been him.

Cool episode. Not only are the males rare but they are also expensive to buy because of the rarity.
Thanks for another cool episode. Could you please do an episode on the coal miners who had to dig under Chernobyl so they could make the sarcophagus around it please? I’d like to hear about them because of the episode about the sarcophagus on your mega projects channel you briefly spoke about them and I think it would be cool to learn more. Thanks again, take care, And stay safe with all the craziness going on in the world right now.

got a toy with catnip for my cat. she got the toy open, sniffed the catnip and walked away. i filled the toy in the bathroom so she could play with it in the bathtub. i put the little bag of catnip in the medicine cabinet and forgot about it. a stray followed me in one day. i noticed after awhile she was rubbing her back on the bottom of the medicine cabinet door. heard a crash one day. she had gotten the door open and was trying to open the bag the catnip was in. gave her a little. she rolled in it, played with it then ate it. she spent the rest of the day sprawled on the bed completely zoned.
