This is THE japanese straight 4 to purchase. 90s vibes, reliability and built quality, great handling, mr layout, great platform to learn how to drive, decent price, happy reving engine, stunning look, good GT equipment, and for James Pumphrey, pop up headlights.
I daily drive mine and have done since I got the car a few months ago. While in this time it's been in an accident, she's still standing and going strong. Never even faltered and I'd argue she held up to the hit better than the yaris that crashed into me. over 23 years difference between the two and mine's not written off. Just goes to show that Toyota's build quality was something else back in the 90s. Solid little car for the money
Great video guys, Jared did really well. Would like to see more reviews if possible! A bumper mounted camera might have been a really good addition to showcase the roads you were driving on and emphasizing the car's agility.
@@TheBackRoads they absolutely are! And you dont even have to have the turbo version to have loads of fun 🥳 only a little bit tricky in the corners when you lift off
I had 2. I miss mine so much, the first, black gti-16 Rev3 moon roof. Bought it in 2015 for £1200. Sold a year later for £2k. Guy who bought it let it go to rot been off the road since 2017 :( i made a big mistake selling that
I just bought myself a 92 MR2, after 1 test drive but won't be home to drive it for a few months. Glad to know that it's a good car overall, I'll have to find out about the handling when I get an opportunity to drive it
I had one of these. A 91 MR2 Turbo. You have to be mindful while taking corners or the back will snap oversteer and when it does it is very hard to correct it. Take care of it and it will take care of you. It was an enjoyable ride overall and I miss driving it.
are you going for the world record in how long it takes to do a 3sgte engine swap, i did one on my drive in 3 days, its been 18 months since you bought the turbo motor
"Or even swapping in an MR2 Turbo drivetrain" oh how I pity the fools that would dare undertake a turbo engine swap rather than just buying the turbo car outright. Fools the lot of them!
I did, turned my 92 N/A into a turbo by buying a front end crashed turbo car cheap, selling the remaining good parts off donor paid for the donor car, selling the N/A engine paid for most of the rebuild of turbo engine so I got essentially a turbo mr2 for less than half the average market price, not only that had everything I needed to do it properly, I pitty the fool who wouldn't take the opportunity to get to know their car better and do something crazy like engine swap given the opportunity, next is the K20 swap at some point in the future on my 3rd mr2.
Why is this channel so underrated? You should have at least 500k subs. It's hard to find good quality automotive content like this. Keep up the great work
It's time for Jared's FIRST EVER video review! Do you agree that the Toyota MR2 is underrated? Let us know below 👇
only imports need super, uk market can use 95e10

@@TheBackRoadsif only someone had donated a suction mount to the channel, you could’ve used that…🤔😉
Still loving the good ol sw20, had a couple of them back in the days, they are such nice driving cars 😊
They're honestly such good machines. Very overlooked.

The MR2 is a great car. Rear engine rear drive just like an F1 car. Sounds great revving to redline too.
Appreciate the fact you understand and conveyed what real snap oversteer is. Most people think it’s just lift off oversteer which it’s not.
Always enjoyed driving my brothers one. Didn't even snap oversteer into a tree.
Clearly not driving it hard enough 👀
Only thing I really miss about my MR2's is their front end, haven't driven another car with better turn in
They're nimble little buggers!
Great video - I have a 1995 Mk2 model and I love it - it's my daily
They're amazing cars!

Great car. Do you have more info or video about your S2K seats? what brackets/sliders are you using?

How is it? I may get my hands on a turbo one soon
It’s a year later now…how’s your car?
@savannahjackson8513 it's been great, never had any handling issues, engine has never had any problems and it sounds amazing.
@@devg0309 That's so great to hear. Very happy for you.
It's a fun car to drive, it's intresting to compare to an mx5
I had a MR2 SW20 Rev3 JDM its was the only car I've ever loved
excellent review
Glad you liked it

Addicting is a US English term surely. Sorry but I had to jump in there! Lol
