Aidan, your knowledge of trombones is crazy. You have once again educated me.

I've had the LT42TG, and it played nicely. I got into crunch and had to sell it. I just recently purchased a similar setup, except this one is a Lt42AG. I got this horn at an extremely discounted price and couldn't pass on it.

Hi Aidan, what is the different between models Bach 42, 42A, 42B, 42BO? Thanks for your answer and Mery Christmas !

      Hey, Jose!
42 is the model number. With no letters, this means a straight 42 with no valve.
B is rotor valve, closed wrap.
BO is rotor valve, open wrap (O for open)
A is Hagmann valve (only open wrap, so no other letter)
T is Thayer (also only open wrap)
K is K or Balanced Valve, also only open wrap
OF is Open Flow, or Mienlschmidt valve
AF is Axial Flow, or newer ball bearing Thayer
      LT42 is a 42 with a light nickel slide
Some come with light nickel 50 slides, this is marked as LT50
G means gold bell, always after the valve (like 42BG or 42AFG)
      R means sterling silver bell
      M means open neckpipe
C means convertible from straight to valve (some are CO for open wrap)
So a crazy 42 could be an LT5042CORM, or light 50 slide, convertible rotor in open wrap, open neckpipe, sterling bell!

I have the stock Bach 42T, it's one of the earliest factory horns with the Orla Ed Thayer valve and it's nice. Sometime in the 2000s Bach switched over to O.E. Thayer. I wouldn't think there is much of a difference, however, I would like to get the nylon linkage point changed out for some kind of mini ball style.

TheCbone1979 is that what changed? That makes sense too. Thank you!

Thanks Aidan for the answer, and enjoy that beautiful melody of the “ White Christmas “ song. I love the trombone because it transmits a serious, warm , and sweet tone when mixed acute or high notes. I think that music should not be played, BUT should be EXPRESSED !

Hey, I have that horn! The only problem I have with it are low notes, which is probably because of the player not the instrument

The low range is pretty great on most of these! If it's not, check the valve to make sure it's not leaking. Thayers need a lot of oil to seal.

Aidan Ritchie you're definitely right about that. I just oiled the valve with a generous amount, and the low range is substantially better. Thank you!

No problem! That's the biggest issue with Thayers of all kinds. They have a lot of surface area, so oil is absolutely necessary to get them to seal.

Barefoot 'Bonist don't know! I dropped off the horn with my friend and I didn't take another look.

My bass has two of these half core valves, I've been told they're aluminum.

Kevin Truong the OE Thayers that came stock on Bachs have aluminum cores. But the Orla Ed Thayers (different company) used a slightly different material I think. The aluminum cores are pretty obviously aluminum, this stuff was darker.
