Just came across this painful series of videos this morning and watched all 5 parts. I am so sorry to see the damage your guitar has and agree that it could only have happened with a serious amount of abuse in handling. I am looking forward to seeing the final results and subscribed to your channel.

My heart goes out to you. As musicians we want to give our audiences the best and this includes the instruments we play. Unfortunately circumstances like this prevents us from doing so. Stay strong.

That’s exactly why I took my Martin to the show the night before. I spent almost every Saturday night in that theater playing in the staff band from age 18-22. Meant a lot to me to bring my best. Thank you, Roy!

I traveled by air with an electric guitar. I brought with me a bolt on stratocaster, a cheaper one, figuring if they, the airline, Air Canada broke it it would be easier to fix. I had it in a gig bag, no case. I wanted to check it in, They said you can't check it in, so they put a handicapped sticker on the gig bag handle. I am not that way, but that sticker can refer to my guitar playing somewhat.
Front that point on I was treated 100% thru customs and scanners. Upon embarking I was pointed to a corner of the gang-way which I then leaned on top of other suitcases and baby carriages. Upon arrival I was told to go to the handicap area, where there was a window where I could see them opening the cargo hold. As they got stuff out for other passengers waiting in the same area, they emerged with my gig bag with strat in it, unscathed.
So I give Air Canada a 10/10 for this. And no charge to bring on the guitar. It seems AC makes certain concessions, possibly the best concessions for musicians as read in their literature about traveling with objects.

Don’t let up. And, was that Martin used on Pickin’ or your albums?

Sure was! More coming soon! I’m not coming at this as a rant or vent. Just presenting the facts. Hoping to add to the conversation. Just not right.

If they offered you something that is admitting guilt or responsibility. That's big in court.

I have another video coming soon from another great luthier/repair person. My strategy is to be a consistent squeaky wheel. Stay calm, but keep squeaking! Haha. I think something good will come of this. Your response and others like you show me that it already is. Many thanks.

Here’s a good idea. Get a really good case for traveling.

I'm so sorry for the damage but I guess this is a lesson learned: leave the vintage instruments at home.

@@LionelCartwright no need. just put them in a road worthy case. the case you had your guitar in was substandard. a quality case for an acoustic will cost you over a 1000 bucks. also, you know what classical guitar players do to protect their instruments when traveling? they buy it a seat.

Though I do feel horrible that such a valuable guitar was severely damaged- my own opinion is - why would you want to travel and/or gig with such a valuable guitar? The majority of your audience will have no clue about what you are playing. Tour and gig with a less valuable instrument, that when damaged, wont end your world. And lastly, if you insist on traveling and or gigging with such a valuable instrument - I'm guessing is worth north of 10 grand- dont travel in a "basic" 200 dollar case. Get an ATA rated damn near bullet proof case for such a valuable instrument. Good luck with your resolution.
