This is my favourite type of educational video...
    - just the right length
    - the educational asides are informative but not distracting
    - the humour enhances rather than overtakes the educational content
    - narrator shares a bit about themselves and we get an idea of their personality
    - research question clearly definited and we're reminded of it half way through
    - graph explained verbally |
    - good visuals and animation is professional
This is a fabulous, balanced video. Will appeal to adults and children alike, regardless of knowledge!

Now I really want to see someone try to create a beetle with a comically large horn. Just like completely unwieldy.

A very thorough, entertaining and interesting presentation. The pace could be slowed down a tad so that the information could be digested more easily. That could be just me because I am a little older. Your voice is easy to listen to and understand. Your ability to inject appropriate and well timed humour also keeps the listener entertained. Very well done, quite enjoyable and certainly learned a lot about this beetle. Maybe your sequel will include John, Paul, George and Ringo……oh yeah……they are not Japanese. Ha ha! Great job. Looking forward to your next one.

This was a really entertaining watch! I can tell the effort you put into the assignment just by watching it lol. Awesome Job Michael!
1 question: Do you know if a limit exists to the potential length of Beetle's horn lengths? and if so what's the longest recorded horn length? if I feed one of the beetles the highest nutrition 24/7 for 8 months then release it into the wild would I have created nature's strongest warrior?
Nonetheless, keep up the great work and keep giving off that (Anime) protagonist energy dude! 💪

      Thanks Noah!
I actually have an answer to that question. Yes, there is a limit, but not one most people would expect.
A 2014 study titled ‘Mechanical limits to maximum weapon size in a giant rhinoceros beetle’ highlighted that an increase in horn size do not impair the beetle’s flight capabilities or stunt the growth of other body parts, thus being very energetically cheap to grow. Instead, horn length is limited by the mechanical strains of intraspecific combat that can result in it breaking. Safety factors decrease with increasing horn length placing an upper limit on the horn’s maximum size. It's a trade off, like so many other things in nature.
Predation may also play a limit role in horn size as predation in these beetles is male biased (‘Rhinoceros Beetles Suffer Male-Biased Predation by Mammalian and Avian Predators’ (2014)), though that likely plays a secondary role compared to intraspecific combat.
