And here we can observe the Norwegian performing its mating dance.
That's why we are only 5 million people :P
Thats why we Norwegians are so good :) Survival of the fittest
Because we don't have sex! I haven't had me a woman since 2009. Does a fish need a bike?
LOL
Very stranger answers, above...!
Man, im absolutely in love with norwegian culture, music, dance andall of it. I absolutely adore it
- Greetings from Sweden
If you find yourself in Norway in 1832, and you want to get laid, you just do what this guy does.

*steve Irwin voice* "ah yes and here we see the courting dance of the wild Norwegian, as he attempts to impress his potential mate! And it appears to be working, as she has accepted his hat several times! "

Answer from Norway
damn almost looks like a mix of martial arts & drunken dance lol
You've got that one right😉
-Norwegian
blocked I mean a lot of Norwegians drink whiskey vodka beer Brennevin
Comrade Nordmann akvavit
if he used that for fighting he woul probably be very good at martial arts
@@ingebjrghalset9839 Hei Ingebjørg 😂
this dance is certainly unique among Scandinavian dances...A solo and test of dance rhythym/athletism for a guy. I love the part improvisational part of it, part supreme athletism (one needs thighs of steel), part show off---its a beautiful blend of all three--like stylized show off for the girl of ones dreams (maybe guy too?!)
I agree, there is a great desciption in a historic novel by Vera Henriksen now I know what she was taliking about.
Fascinating. Some moves are also typical of Russian, Turkish and Egyptian dances!
+Sandra Carli Thank you! Yes, I guess there are ancient connections. Some of the moves are more than 1000 years old, and the vikings travelled a lot to Russia and Istanbul.
+frikar are you the dancer in this video?
Frikar is a dancing group created by Hallgrim, the dancer in this video, so it could be he who answered you :)
Hallgrim is a great athlete and a very sympathetic guy too.
Here I am dying after 30 squats.. this guy does them to stall time
🤣
The most amazing dancing I have ever seen!
Thank you so much 🙏🏻😀
Fantastisk flott utført.
That guy is in SHAPE! But, ff this is a mating dance, I hope it is not how Norwegians mate - the man does all the gyrations and the woman doesn't move and just holds the pole.
wmlbrown Thank you. Actually for me this is not so much of a mating dance but a great way of finding out what I can do and express with my body. By the way, this dance is danced by women as well since the 1700's :)
Yes that is exactly how we mate, et es verri cuul rait
The funny thing is it’s exactly the opposite when we mate. The woman does all the gyrations and the man doesn’t move and just holds the pole.
Lazy women
WOW !! absolutely amazing...makes me damn proud to be a fellow viking from the old country (Valdres Rules !!)
What a great performance!
+Simonas Kiela Thank you!

So this is how break dancing started 😂
the good ol break dance of the 17th century
Großartig 😁👍
Viking Break Dance, Anno Domini 873.
😍😍😍😍😍😍
She lowered it slightly. Did you notice?
Well, this is a total melcocha (really awesome weird mix) of many dances.
I love it!!!
Weii.....if you believe that the " ..weird mix...of many dances" is something they have thrown together after watching youtube - then you are wrong.
This kind of dance has long traditions in Norway.
If you go back 300 years to the 1700th then the dance and the fiddle playing was tried to be stopped by the the church.
They meant that specially women became "immoral"
from that.
Sorry, but break dance came some hundred years after the Norwegians had started their acrobatics.
Hope you got a little more knowledge about traditions and that it goes back in time " a little " longer than the existence of internet.
This style of dance is very old in Norway.
Молодец, 🙂.

Алиса Киса Its an Hardanger fiddle
thank you so much, товарищ! :) extremely beautiful sounds
It's a hardingfele. Fele=fiddle
Eg liker å tenkje at at sparkar handa, ikkje klaskar til helen.
How long have you been doing this? 😮
Hi Ingebjørg! I started dancing and playing hardanger fiddle together with the fiddler in this video, Jan Beitohaugen Granli, in the beginning of Elementary school. But also an active and playful lifestyle as a kid helps for halling dancing so active kids starting late with dancing can still become great dancers.
U made Dr.Dre proud!

This needs more likes.
Absolutely marvelous, such dexterity, command of movement, such control and understanding of the folklore.
I am deeply impressed.
Mark Adderley thank you for such a Nice comment 😀
When you live in a country that’s generally tilted at 45° then this is the energy you need.
Hehe, the mountain trips might help for the dancing, yes 😉🤣
Unlike those 180° fools in Netherland.
Hello, this is Peter from the Hungarian Dance Univ. where I'm a methodology teacher on the Hungarian folk dance faculty. We have same character of lad's dances so thank you for the great and impressive performance. Take care of you… 🙂
Hi Peter! I'd love to see your dancing. Which video would you recomend? I toured Hungary in 2004, was great to see Hungarian folk dancing! - Hallgrim
I'm nerding on movements, and am amazed over this guy, smooth af
props to the lady holding up something like that for ages... your arms get really tired
He must have the heart of a horse. Beautiful. Amazing.
+Greg Scott Thank you!

Keep this dance and Norse traditions alive.

Ok, the guy is spinning on his head with arms folded. Your argument is clearly invalid.
I'm addicted to energy, greetings from a kid from india :')
Reminds me of the dance from Eurovision 2009 (Fairytale)
That was also halling dance
Same guy.

Very disappointed that he did not take the hat with his head only and used his hands. Hope he'll do better next year.
I agree, let's pray for him

I have a Stick, i have a hat, uh hatstick double jump attack!!

This literally just looks like drunk Polish/ Ukrainian dance. I'm pretty sure Vikings saw drunk slavs dancing and decided to try it themselves.
Thanks, hehe. Did you know viking kings like Harald Hardråde brought dancing to Istanbul through Ukrainia and Russia? The dance of the viking assassins in Istanbul are described in the Book of ceremony. Much later East-European folk dancing got disciplined by military and ballet influence and became “sober”, clean and balanced. In halling I believe it’s a interesting quality to loose control and take risks dancing less symetrical and parallell then the East-European folk dancing. - Hallgrim
You´re a freak of nature!! ;) Helt rått! også avslutte md headspin... med hatt! ;)
Does anyone know the name of the traditional tune being played as he dances?
The tune is called "Kjæringè i snødrevè", Jan's combination of the langeleik and a hardingfele form. It's the Valdres version of Fanitullen on the grålysing tuning.
Tusen takk!
+frikar It's wonderful. In itself it is almost as captivating as the dance performance. The player was watching very carefully and worked his playing to Hallgrim's movement.
@@EmdrGreg Finally I see someone mentioning the amazing player.
