  • Fender Custom Shop Greg Fessler Masterbuild Stratocaster. This is a Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster which cost £9k!
With a nitro finish and pickups hand wound by Fender's Josephina, this is one of the nicest feeling and sounding guitars I've ever played.
Below are amazon affiliate links for some of my studio equipment and video, meaning, at no cost to you, I will earn commission if you click through and make a purchase:
This Fender Masterbuild Stratocaster was made by Greg Fessler and is quite heaily relicced. Originally red, this has faded to pink where you can see the exposed roasted body underneath.
Pete honore (Danish Pete) also loved this guitar so the quality can be vouched for.

Two questions. Can a great guitar player sound the same on a $100 Fender Squire as a 20k original 1954 Strat? Do you love music for the song or how authentic the tone of the mythical wood and magical pickups from a 1950's Stratocaster?

I won't spend more than $1,000 for a guitar. I have a 1997-98 Heritage H535 (ES 335 style) and a new model sells for $3K. I also have a PRS SE McCarty 594 Standard (all mahogany body) that I got on sale with a new customer discount for $597. I have 3 other electric guitars in the $650-$1,000 range. The Heritage H535 is a great guitar but I enjoy playing my PRS SE McCarty just as much. I also feel much more comfortable keeping the PRS out on a stand vs leaving the Heritage out. We have dogs, cats and grand kids and I am not totally comfortably leaving the Heritage exposed to the dangers of life. I know some TH-camrs like to say the $800 dollar guitar isn't really as good as the $2,000+ guitar but in reality, I find there's very little difference. It also funny that some of the greatest guitar music of all time was recorded on used instruments. Leslie West played a Gibson LP Jr which was considered a student guitar. Page, Clapton and Beck played 2nd hand tele's early in their career before they could afford nicer gear. Led Zeppelin I was recorded with a beat up tele. The Beatles didn't use the most expensive gear. Alvin Lee played a used beat up Gibson ES 335 he bought for around $200 and later he toured with Japanese copies of his ES 335 because the real Woodstock guitar was simply too expensive to take on the road. Bernie Marsden of White Snake had a '59 LP but played his PRS SE Signature on the road when his LP became valued at the price of a house. And, I am fortunate enough to have a fair degree of financial security. I could afford an expensive instrument but don't feel like it's necessary.

How Fender charges what they get for these is beyond comprehension. These are cut out on a cnc machine like any other cheap strat and are super easy to put together. They level the frets if you're lucky and charge you $5000 for it but there is nothing special about these except they may have a little more attention to detail but nothing you couldn't do yourself in an afternoon.

Very nice comparison!!! Beautiful guitar but make me stick with my 1991 MIJ ST 62 I install a Custom Shop Texas special pickup set sound great . I was thinking about buying a Regular Custom Shop thanks for the video.

I would not. Great video though!

I’ll ding the guitar up myself, thanks. Besides, at this price point, even though it looks beat up, I would be worried that I would damage it, so I wouldn’t really play it.

My feeling with super expensive new guitars is: I've had a lot more cheap guitars punch way above their weight class than expensive guitars feel worth their price tag. On the value side, when I had a very expensive non-vintage fender I felt like it was a ticking timebomb so I sold it to the first person who asked to buy it. I think maybe people will keep collecting old stuff, but in 2029 why buy a custom shop from 2022 instead of a new one unless it's cheaper?

This isn’t 10x better than my player series with fat50s pickups……….so no I wouldn’t buy it.

I use to agree, but then I bought a custom shop. And now, I genuinely believe the feeling it gives you every time you open the case, makes it 10 times better.

Or maybe just buy a PRS SilverSky SE or the new PRS SE NF 3 and you'll have nearly as much guitar for a fraction of the price...

My PRS SE McCarty 594 Standard is my fav guitar at the moment and I own a Heritage H535 that is hand built and new models retail for $3K.

Maybe I would if the actual "Master Builder" has his name on the body and neck and the guy got half of the fee. Fender currently pays less than Panda Express, however, and the actual cost of a guitar is

I'd Give you $200 for it. ...It's going take some time and cost right much to restore it and get it looking good again. The pink Strat just doesn't sound as good as the others.

If you did a blind sound test with a $500 guitar I bet you couldn't tell a difference. Sorry but the aging on that looks horrible.

Sound comes from the fingers not the guitar, if you just want something to look pretty or status symbol great pay $10,000 for a guitar, on stage you can't tell so it doesn't matter !🤔
