Hey, Happy New Year! My #1 first time time played by me in 2022 would be Meadow for regular weight and Flotilla for Kennerspiel. I can't decide on one. Released in 2022, my favorite is Verdant, although the biggest success for the family and school board game club was Planted, of basically the same theme. Best wishes of fun, joy, and good health for both of you all throughout 2023!
My boyfriend and I real enjoy Creature Comforts when we want something more casual. Fun note, is that the boyfriend (a much more casual gamer than me) recognizes your voices when I watch your videos. That warms my heart. :)
Great lists! Wonderlands War and Planet Unknown are two of my most wanted games from 2022 that I haven't gotten to try yet. My favorite game of the year was Marvel Dice Throne, but that feels like a bit of a cheat, since I was already a huge Dice Throne fan, but I couldn't stop play it. Hope you have a wonderful 2023!
I am SO, SO, SO excited that you tried Frosthaven!!! I am very much mechanics-minded like Amy, and Gloomhaven has been my lifestyle game that I play about 1-2 hours a day. My play style has been very controversial within the GH groups on FB in that I really don't care about them, so I don't use the tiles correctly and ignore most of the lure, but the card play and leveling up are just so incredible. I absolutely cannot wait until you release whatever FH content you plan to release!
Thanks for sharing these picks. This was my first look at Frosthaven. I'm excited!! Creature Comforts and Flamecraft look like fun cute games that I'm going to mention to friends who have kids. I'd say my favorite game that was new to me this year was Scythe. I'm about to embark on the Fenris campaign with friends in the new year. I really liked the Rise of Ix expansion for Dune: Imperium too. Also, I picked up Dungeons, Dice, and Danger after seeing one or two video reviews (maybe on this channel?); I've only played it solo so far but have been enjoying it and looking forward to playing with others. And that nail polish is rad!!
It seems like it was a slow year for me. I only got to play one of these so far (Tenpenny Parks - absolutely a keeper). Thanks for the recommendations and another great year of this channel.
Great list Amy and Maggie! I only played flamecraft and wonderland's war from your list which i both really love. I really want to get planet unknown and creatures comforts as well! Thanks for your great content and for being such nice people to watch. You're one of my top favorites content creators (and i watched a lot!)
Hi Anne-Claire! Thank you for this lovely comment... it was so nice to read and we really appreciate the feedback. So glad you enjoy the content we create and some of the games we spoke about on this video! Wishing you a wonderful festive season ❤️
Heheh last year we waited so long that we never ended up filming a list so we thought we'd get in early this year! Thank you for watching and your ongoing support ❤️
Hi Nicolas! Thanks for taking the time to write this, that means a lot to us! We wish we had more time to do this around our day jobs but it brings so much happiness to us! Thank you so much for watching ☺️
Hello from West Australia! Thanks so much for another fantastic video. I often go to a local boardgame meetup on mondays, then I get to come home for some extra boardgame goodness afterwards from TT. ;-) First time to comment so I'll just add: After being into boardgames as a kid, I really pivoted to almost exclusively playing PC games. This year though I've had a hard time with some vision issues that have kept me almost entirely off of computer screens (I'm writing this while mostly looking at my keyboard, and I mostly listen to the videos on youtube). One bright spot has been rediscovering how cool boardgames are / have gotten over the past few years. This channel was one of the first I started listening to to learn more about what is going on, and I really appreciate how much effort you put into it. Can't wait to play Great Western Trail myself in the future. 🙂 Keep it up! Best wishes for 2023. #teamthemer
Hi Daniel! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely comment. We were sorry to read of your recent health issues but are so glad that board gaming has become a new passion for you (well, a reignited one!) It's great to have you here and especially another Aussie! Look forward to chatting about more games with you. A&M ☺️
@@ThinkerThemer Thank you for the reply. ;-) I should add that partially on your recommendation I did grab A Feast for Odin. What a great game. Definitely my favorite at the moment! Have a good Christmas break. Xo
Thanks for the video! (Making my rounds in catching up.) Obviously, every best-of list is subjective simply because everyone is different. So in disclosure, I have not played many of the games of 2022. That said, some games that I would love to try (if have not) and that may end up on people's lists include: Flamecraft, Turing Machine, Long Shot: The Dice Game, Three Sisters, Splendor Duel, Creature Comforts, Paint the Roses, and Planet Unknown. :)
Glad to see "Hamlet" on Maggie's list, my kick-starter version arrived this past week. I've only opened, punched, and counted so far. Great lists from both of you and love your enthusiasm for your selections.
OMG! I'm so glad that Frosthaven made Amy's list. It's a fantastic game and deserves all the praise. After watching the top ten, I broke down and purchased Kites. It looks like to much fun to miss. Thanks for a wonderful top ten video!
So am I!!!!!!! Lol Huge surprise for me. I didn't know much about the mechanics going in and was so taken by the card play! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Fred!
Wow - always inspiring to see different tastes collide. I'd much rather play something "off the shelf" as opposed to these ;) hope you had a great year - cheers to the next one!
What a fantastic list Maggie and Amy! Really enjoyed watching this one, thank you for putting the time and energy into filming this. So excited to discover some of these titles over the coming months and years :-) Take care and hi from Adelaide where we currently are on our travels! Cis
Excellent list. This is the first Top 10 list that I have watched at the end of the year. I am sure everyone will be dropping there Top 100 and Top 10 and Year in review. I love watching your lists especially since your tastes are sometimes diametrically opposed. As MC Skat Kat and Paula Abdul would say……”We come together because opposites attract”. I think I just “dated” myself by making that reference…but you get the idea.
Thank you!! We were also surprised at how different our lists were to each other this year! We agree on most of the games in our collection but when we rank them we definitely prioritise different elements. Thanks for watching as always! ☺️
Really fun list! This year was really lacking for me in terms of games played and bought, because of school and life stuff I just really didn’t have much time to play games but I would say the top 2 games for me were Encyclopedia (which I literally got my kickstarter copy of last week, and immediately played and loved) and Flamecraft :) I’m so excited for Distilled.. I backed it on kickstarter a while ago and its supposed to arrive someday soon so I’m glad to hear that Maggie loved it! Think I might need a copy of Decorum, it sounds lovely. Not the biggest fan of co-op but it sounds nice! And absolutely adding Woodcraft to my list as well..
LOL. Soo many surprises: It must be X-mas season. 1. A top 10 and 2. from both of you together! 3. Frosthaven, a dungeon crawl. Amy, how come you even got it - I would never have thought you would back this? 4. I thought Theme-wise Creature Comforts should be higher up on Maggie's list! And 5. no rating - a lost opportunity to get a Millimeter closer to a top 100 of BG's of all time! And this top 10 gives us hope. Great list and happy holidays.
We played a game of Wonderland's War last night and it was great fun. I, too, love the art and all the different crazy mechanics thrown into one game. Maybe someday we can sit down to a round or two of WW together! (It was one of my first Kickstarted games, so will always hold a nostalgic place in my heart.) I have been resisting picking up Decorum for quite some time. Now that we're going away to snowy Vermont over Christmas, I may just have to pick it up and Kites (great fun) will also be packed for the trip. And I'm also very curious about Planet Unknown. Time to do some research...! Great top 10 list! So many people do these that I can get a little tired of them, but I really enjoyed yours. What I learned from your video: In the world of Thinker-Themer, the statement "we don't play co-op games" is so 2021. 🤣 Thanks for posting!
What a diverse list! I love it. I have only actually played three of these. Another arrived last week and one is on the way. I have some work (play) to do to catch up with you!
Thanks for the video! I love seeing the top 10 of a particular year, since I'm constantly catching up on older games, the new ones seem to get neglected. Which means I didn't play many from this year, if I did at all. There's some on here I was already curious about, from earlier videos or generally, but there's definitely about 5 of them that I waaaant to check out. I'm hoping Frosthaven fixes a lot of issues that I have with both versions of Gloomhaven. So it's a bit reassuring to hear that it has some Euro like mechanics. Cause while those games are very good, I also think they have more problems people are willing to admit and I just want it to be addressed or smoothed out. Amy, I had a feeling you would have enjoyed the amount of interesting deep combat mechanics from it. I'm glad you gave it a shot! Maggie, so many of your picks make my brain do the happy themer dance, that I want to try a good bulk of your top 10. I want that level of immersion that those gave y'all. Y'all enjoy this holiday season!
Loved the joy and enthusiasm of both of you in this video! A real joy :) Yunno looking through my list I realise I've played hardly any 2022 release games, but so many of your selections looked so interesting that this will surely change soon. Anyway the two games of 2022 I will mention are Lands of Galzyr, a charming narrative game, and Bios:Mesofauna, wonderful creeples in a science simulation of insect evolution. - - Look forward to more of your content, plus was happy to see you working with Rahdo, high five! :)
It's cool how different your lists are - Maggie's list is full of really approachable family games and Amy's list has THREE co-ops?? Happy to see you've come to the dark side! There really are so many good co-ops out there these days. My favorite game of 2022 has to be Oathsworn with Return to Dark Tower a close second. That said, I haven't played Frosthaven yet, and Gloomhaven is my #2 game of all time. I also discovered a lot of new-to-me games that would surely make my list if they had been published this year: Paleo, Wingspan, The Search for Planet X, Cthulhu Death May Die, Cascadia, and Paint the Roses.
It surprised us how different they are!!! Amy here! I seem to be able to move past some of the themes we usually don't play (easier for me to ignore) but the coop shift feels a bit more like a mindset shift. The more games I play and teach the less competitive I've become. 🙃 One regret I have is not yet getting Oathsworn onto the table. I went all in on the original kickstarter and staring at all of the boxes is super intimidating. I feel like I can tackle it now that I've gotten my head around Frosthaven! Thank you for watching and sharing all of these great thoughts ❤️
@@ThinkerThemer It's fun to see our tastes evolve, and, who knows, I think your competitive side might even find some satisfaction in defeating a really difficult boss or scenario even if you aren't going head to head with another player. If you've managed to internalize Frosthaven's rule set, you'll have no problem learning Oathsworn. The monster movement rules are waaaay more streamlined than they are in Frosthaven. The battle flow system is good, but the hand management isn't as crunchy as in Gloomhaven. I'm not sure how you'll feel about the narrative/exploration bits, but I'm definitely looking forward to hearing your thoughts on both games!
HI FRIENDS!! AHH so excited to see your list!! I'm definitely adding your number 2 to my list (at the very minimum 🤣) and YOUR NUMBER 1S!!!!! both so epic!! 🔥i'm so honored that I got to play one of your top games aka number 7 with you 🥳
Idk what it is about you two, but you make an hour long video so easy to watch! Love hearing all your thoughts on games. Surprised that Maggie loved these medium games that align well with my tastes and am so glad to add a few of these to my list to try. Headed to the Dominican Republic this weekend on our honeymoon and thought of you two ❤sending love from Oregon
Looking at my 2022 plays, I think it's Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest as my favourite of the year. I'm reserving my opinion on Terracotta Army so far as I've only gotten to play the solo mode for it (which is good but way to administratively heavy for the AI), but Dandelions is also a shocking surprise for me.
Dandelions!!! Amy here Mark and Dandelions almost made my list lol! What a cute little surprise package. We had a fun time with Libertalia this year too but ultimately it wasn't for our group (who are more euro lovers!) Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts ☺️ 💕
So many I want to try! Being a bit slow to the new games, I have only played one of them so far (Maggie's #7). One I did play was Tiletum and I was super impressed. Keen to hear your thoughts if you review it.
Excellent selections. I didn't find Terracotta Army or Woodcrafters terribly compelling but would try them again. Frosthaven is awesome! Several here I haven't had the chance to try yet including Flamecraft and Wonderland's War. Lacrimosa is high on my list to obtain after playing once at BGG Con. I am curious about Distilled and saw that this designer has another interesting game coming in 2023.
I'm a new subscriber and I've watched so many of your videos over the last few weeks trying to catch up. I loved watching this video! Such a great mix of games. I'm massively swayed by art/theme so I either love or want to play all the games on Maggie's list 🤓
I'm so upset I missed out on the big box/Asia expansion combo for Wingspan. I wish more than the first printing had done that, given how quickly it sold out. The actual prices and availability also came out too late for me to ask for it for Christmas, so I'm not sure when I'll be getting it...but I will be getting it. Splendor Duel just hasn't seemed worth it for me, we like Splendor a lot at 2 player but at this stage, we have a lot of 2 player (and 2 player only) games, more than we play regularly.
Great list! Love to see Woodcraft score so high! I'd recommend checking out Tiletum, Amsterdam, and Caesar! Seize Rome in 20 Minutes if you haven't played them :)
My #1 of 2022 is Dead Reckoning. I really love the steady feeling of progression. Even on slower turns you're still getting to level up cards. My #2&3 would be ISS Vanguard and Lands of Galzyr.
I think the most fascinating thing about the #6/#1 games is that it is quite mechanical and extremely interactive, with no solo mode I don't think, which means I'd expect it to be higher on Amy's list... Fascinating!
First of all, I love your videos. I am waiting for thyroid surgery and isolating from others to avoid getting sick for it, so I am watching even more. But you are killing me here. You are horrible for my budget. I bought MYSELF a bunch of those "stocking fillers," and now, another game from this video for my spouse because I think she'll like it. However, while she likes to play games, I always worry that I am unconsciously buying the gift for me. :)
They are indeed a custom build - just a basic bookshelf built in but with wider and deeper shelves. We love them but they are already full 🙃 Thanks for the lovely comment about the video!
How in the world did I match with Maggie on all these games? My game group teases me for being a lover of dry dusty euros, but Maggie's right -- all those games are just delightful!
Hahaha you must be a themer but the love of dry dusty euros definitely unites us 🤣 ❤️ sounds like we would have a great game day together Jeff!!!! Thanks for watching.
Great list. Have you played Unsettled yet? If you are starting to get into co-ops, Unsettled is a great one. A very different game than the typical "putting out fires" that most co-ops seem to do.
It's good actually but not at its best and it's a big game to set up just for 2. It changes the rules slightly. We did a playthrough of this on Rahdo's channel (Rahdo Runs Through) if you'd like to check it out! 😀
Nice top 10.. Im surprise no Endless Winter seems hype around the game. It would be nice if you would do mention Honorable for 2 or 3 games barely miss your top 10 =)
Me and my fiancé Kieron absolutely love your channel, and have been really surprised at some of your picks, especially yours Amy 😂 We were both expecting Septima to be in your top 10 as you both really seemed to like it, even with the Rite track being s little complex.
Thank you everyone for the love in the comments! What made your #1 game of 2022? ❤️
I'm eyeballing that copy of Nusfjord back there. I can't find it anywhere for a decent price.
Wow! Wonderland's War made both your lists and #1 on Maggie's! Such an honor. Love your content and excited to your channel continue to grow!
It's a fantastic game! Thanks for making it!

Agreed. I adore that game.
Love love love the game!
It’s my #1 game for 2022
I’ve been trying to find it. Hopefully a reprint come through soon.
Amy! Frosthaven? Are you trying to tell us something? Are you and Maggie in trouble? I was watching to see if you were blinking S.O.S. 🤣
Just learned about you two from an Andromeda's Edge video. Great presence on camera and fun energy!

Thanks for introducing me to Distilled, I had not heard of this at all.
Ya I've been waiting for my kickstarter to come in of it. Looks really fun.

I'm so happy to see the things I love the most about Hamlet resonate with you Maggie!
You two are amazing! Such a great list!
Thanks for the great video! I've been looking at Woodcraft for a while now and it looks fantastic. Sucks that we cant even get it right now XD
So many I haven't played and want to! Woodcraft is really high up on my list and so is Lacrimosa.
Great list!!! AMY….What???? Frosthaven? Loved the variety but so excited now to get some of these that are still unplayed to the table.
Love this list! Tenpenny Parks was great and I love those chunky money tokens. I need to open my copy of Terracotta Army, I'm officially ashamed
Really glad you liked Come Together🥰Thank you! Hope you get the time to cover it on your channel, too🙂
Absolutely agree with Maggie’s #1! Same here 💕💕 Haven’t tried Woodcraft yet, but I definitely want to.
It's a great game but one of the heaviest on the list!! So glad you love Wonderland's War too and thank you for taking the time to comment! ❤️
“So basically Maggie’s life” I LOLED. It’s my life too xDDD
Loooooved watching this video! There are so many games on your lists that we haven't played yet. Come visit again so we can play! =) Thanks, you two!
Fun lists! There were a couple surprises, more from Amy a couple from Maggie. 🙂 Thanks! 🌈
Love the video,
Odd question,. what shelves do you all have?
They did a video about their shelving and I believe they are custom built
They are indeed a custom build - just a basic bookshelf built in but with wider and deeper shelves. We love them but they are already full 🙃 Thanks for the lovely comment about the video!
@@ThinkerThemer
Thank you for the info, and do keep up the great videos.
Distilled 🤩 I'm still waiting for the german version to arrive at my doorstep. But that won't happen before Christmas 🤷♀️
It does feel like a long wait but hopefully it will be worth it for you when it arrives!!! Thank you for watching as always ❤️
Woop woop! Sooo excited for this list 🥳🥳🥳
I’m sooo happy you enjoy Frosthaven, Amy 😍 Gloomhaven is amazing and we’re so hyped for Frosthaven!
Planet unknown looks really good, I’ll be looking out for that one
Yay, some love for Come Together ☮️💟
How in the world did I match with Maggie on all these games? My game group teases me for being a lover of dry dusty euros, but Maggie's right -- all those games are just delightful!
Hahaha you must be a themer but the love of dry dusty euros definitely unites us 🤣 ❤️ sounds like we would have a great game day together Jeff!!!! Thanks for watching.
Great list. Have you played Unsettled yet? If you are starting to get into co-ops, Unsettled is a great one. A very different game than the typical "putting out fires" that most co-ops seem to do.
Great list!! Wonderland's War is also definitely high on my 2022 list! Just wondering, did you end up getting Everdell, the Complete Collection??
Great listing!
Surprised Septima did not make your list!
I wonder if it's because Septima is technically a 2023 release (I think).
It is indeed a 2023 release so you might see it pop up in next year's list! ☺️❤️ Thanks for watching!
Guess I should have got Planet Unknown when it was on preorder for 62CAD. Now it's way more :'(
I tend to get games a year or two after they initially release. However woodcraft, lacrimosa and terracotta army are all on my wishlist.
How does Wonderland War play at 2 player?
It's good actually but not at its best and it's a big game to set up just for 2. It changes the rules slightly. We did a playthrough of this on Rahdo's channel (Rahdo Runs Through) if you'd like to check it out! 😀
Nice top 10.. Im surprise no Endless Winter seems hype around the game. It would be nice if you would do mention Honorable for 2 or 3 games barely miss your top 10 =)
Did you manage to play beer and bread? Definitely made my top for the year
Decorum is part 2 to Fog of Love.
Hahah definitely enjoy Decorum more for the puzzle! You're so right about the theme though!! It's not a common one. Thanks for watching ☺️
Has distilled come out already? I didn't think the kickstarter had delivered yet.
Wow congrats to the two
Crossovers. Did you guys play Marrakesh? I thought that would be a big one this year.
Hello, please can you do a top 10 purely based on theme please?
:D Hamlet?! A personal favorite that does NOT get the attention it deserves
Where can I get a copy of Wonderland’s War?
Does anyone know if Planet Unknown has a solo?
I played Wonderlands War last weekend for the first time and I have lost horribly 😂 but I think I like it 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 I always lose (Amy here!)
Does wonderland war play well with 2 players?
I'm looking forward to Distilled, but I'm wondering if it lacked something to not make Amy's list?
Did you play/try/own Dwellings of Eldervale?
They already have a video review of it (they like it!).
We have played it and really enjoy it (thanks Justin for answering!) It wasn't under consideration for this list as its publication date was 2020.
As always, great in-depth analysis of the games covered. I’m interested to know if you’ve tried Tiletum or Revive yet?
Is Wingspan Asia playable solo?
Hello by the way
Just wondering if you guys have played Undaunted: Stalingrad?
You made me want Terracotta ,-)
About distilled, does the luck aspect make you less inclined to want to play the game, or does it make you want to play it moren
Me and my fiancé Kieron absolutely love your channel, and have been really surprised at some of your picks, especially yours Amy 😂
We were both expecting Septima to be in your top 10 as you both really seemed to like it, even with the Rite track being s little complex.
OMG...skipping your number 6 got me so confused lol...
