is a song about getting hurt by someone and struggling to come to terms with that loss. The narrator is trying to get over the heartbreak by turning to alcohol on Mondays and by creating a "cocktail called Grounds For Divorce," to mask his pain. The pre-chorus lyrics allude to emptiness, loneliness, and the idea of not being able to help himself in his sadness. The chorus speaks of drinking with a seldom seen kid referring to the person he once loved, as a way to make it all go away. Despite the longing and sadness that permeates the lyrics, the song ultimately gives hope that he'll be able to move forward and find peace in the end.
The song title resembles the setting they're in, a bar where men go to drown their sorrows and guilt and are to scared to face the problems that await them
+BoySyndicate666 not the case man..just talking about a friend gettin a divorce. "mondays is for drinkin to the seldom seen kid" "there is a chinese cigarette case and the rest u can keep" etc etc
Yeah death of people close and then a divorce always leaves a very bitter taste in one's mouth. Friend of the band Brian Glancy died during the recording of this song, such scares can never heal... not really. But the song is one helluva legacy. He's the seldom seen kid
Why do I meet people who don't like this band more often than not? I asked my friend if he liked Elbow, he wasn't too keen, he said he preferred shoulders knees and toes.
That's how I found Elbow. Shazamed that song clip when May and Hakkinen were in the car. The best thing that has happened in my life was finding Elbow.
Each and every Monday my father dropped in, we drank one beer and talked about everything. Since he's gone, there's this hole in my neighbouhood. Fantastic song which I have never heard on U.S. radio. First heard Elbow in the indy film 9 Songs. For those familiar with the music of the Sixties, the vocals and bluesy vibe of this song are reminiscent of Cream.
The lead singer of the band Elbow is Guy Garvey. He is known for his role as the primary lyricist and vocalist of the group, contributing significantly to their distinctive sound and emotional depth in their music.
I have to thank Driver San Francisco and its developers for exposing me to this artist. The soundtrack of that game is rather superb. As is the game. Kudos to the developers for having good taste!

Love this song! I think it's the best song in the Driver: San Francisco soundrack; which is where I first heard it. Fortunately the only words I managed to pick up (since my language processing apparently just blanks out to music): "Gounds for divorce" happened to be the title.
