      This guy seems like a true fan of film, but I get frustrated when people do these videos, and somehow forget they can look up how to pronounce people's names. Linda Florentini? 😂 Come on, man! Lol

  • @MAFion
    @MAFion ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The great Linda Fiorentino - yes! She's good in Vision Quest too. But her career mark, in a jaw-dropping performance, was in The Last Seduction, where she's pitch-perfect as the femme fatale.

    This is a movie that gets better every time I watched it. I had it on VHS and DVD, and just picked up the UHD version. When I first few times I saw it, I considered it a very good film but minor in Scorsese's overall catalog; however, it just kept getting better and better for me everytime I've watched it and it now probably is in my top 10 Scorsese films, though I love all his movies including Boxcar Bertha and Who's That Knocking at My Door.

    Your reviews are sincere and honest. 👍 Just do some research on the actors’ names. Griffin Dunne and Linda Fiorentino respectfully deserve that. Viewers will take your reviews/videos more seriously.

    I was 18 in 1985 and worked at the movie theater at that time. I do remember this very well. It was shown is the smallest theater that was there. There were 10 theaters. I sat in the back and watch during my lunch time. It was different from the blockbusters back then.

    You talk too much. You cant even pronounce Griffin dunes name. After hrs is easily top 10 scorcese

    This is personally my favorite from Scorsese and one of my most anticipated physical releases ever. I love the ramping tension and increasing absurdity of the night as it becomes more and more of a surreal dive into the crippling loneliness of crowded cities and corporate workplaces.
    It's so abnormal from Scorsese but I think it's one of his most influential works. You can see the throughline from this to something like Uncut Gems today.

      Watched it for the first time tonight. Its was good, definitely stands out in Scorsese filmography, but not one of his best though. Have others ahead of it. Beau is Afraid was heavily inspired by this film

    I literally just finished watching this movie and it didn’t feel like I watched anything lol. There was no laughs, no drama, no suspense, nothing. Just a string of pointless set pieces that weren’t funny.

    One of Scorsese's many masterpieces! I've been waiting to upgrade my DVD of this for years. Griffin Dunne, in my opinion, should've been a leading man in more movies. **Interesting FACTOID** -- Griffin Dunne is the brother of the late Dominique Dunne, who played older sister "Dana" in POLTERGEIST.

  • @AAZEDLARC
    @AAZEDLARC 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's pronounced Griffin "Done." Like his father, writer Dominick Dunne, his uncle John Gregory Dunne, and his murdered sister, Dominique Dunne. There is a new best-selling book about their storied family (including Joan Didion,) called "The Friday Afternoon Club"

    This is one of my favourite Scorsese films, it's kind of like a screwball comedy but so much more dark, atmospheric and almost dreamlike. I've seen it described as being a bit "Kafkaesque" and I think that's a fair description.

    I believe this was suppose to be Tim Burton debut flick before MS took it on. Also After Hours has been available in HD on iTunes for years…for what it’s worth.

    You do great reviews, but for the life of me I can't understand how you can mispronounce the name "Griffin Dunne". It's "Done" not "Dune". I could understand if he was an obscure actor, but seriously this guy has starred in huge movies for 40 years, and his sister was the famous actress Dominique Dunne that was tragically murdered by a stalker in 1982. How could you possibly have not accidentally heard his last name pronounced at least a thousand times over the years?

      It’s become increasingly hyped over the last few years. I felt that way when I was in college and watched Don’t Look Back (the D.A. Pennebaker documentary about Bob Dylan). The way it was described, I thought it was going to be something much greater. Instead, I was disappointed by how “unremarkable” it felt compared to my expectations. My opinion of the documentary has greatly improved over the years.
      With After Hours, I didn’t initially like it because I was comparing it to Stranger Than Paradise, or Down By Law. But it was always talked about as one of Scorsese’s overlooked films (along with Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, New York, New York, and King of Comedy).
      I’ve come to enjoy the film with every subsequent viewing and I think the story of where Scorsese was in his (failing) career adds to the story of the film. But I love it because it captures a SoHo that simply doesn’t exist anymore.
      It took about 3 viewings before I got on board. It’s a unique film and packs a lot. But I now feel that the hype has kind of ruined the movie a bit because it set’s expectations. It used to be a movie you appreciated but discovered on your own.
      When you met other fans, it was shorthand for indicating that you took the time to watch his other films outside of the De Niro films he’s most known for.
      It would be like someone talking about how much they appreciate Bringing Out the Dead and finding others who also like this overlooked movie in his body of work. But if that movie were to suddenly be talked about as his best movie or started getting a lot of hype around it, it would have a level of expectation around it aside from enjoying it for what it is.

    Hi Ken, I'm glad you finally got to watch this. It's in my Top 5 Scorsese films. I first saw it on cable TV randomly in the middle of the night at a hotel, and I missed the first 20 minutes or so, but I couldn't stop watching. It took a little time before I figured out what it was, as I didn't watch the end credits or anything. I was surprised when I saw it was a Scorsese film, probably 20 or so years ago.

    Griffin Dunne starred as the male lead in "Who's That Girl?" A cheesy, 80s comedy movie starring Madonna. Spoiler alert, she's that girl. This is way before she started looking like a hell demon, during her earlier Marilyn Monroe LARPer days. You ought to check it out if you've never seen it. I think you'd actually like it. I had a couple of film studies classes in college and one of my professors was the motorcycle cop in "Who's That Girl?"

    I want to pick this up. Never heard of it. But it sounds interesting. I'm a fan of Griffin Dunne's late father who was an author and journalist. Just watched a documentary about him last week that was illuminating.
