Clorets- I never imagined that the term “deodorant “ would ever be used to sell Breath mints. Also, the glasses that the woman is wearing in this commercial are so big, that, they look like they take up half of her face. Borden Lite- Line American Cheese- From the looks of the mouse woman in this commercial, I would think that cheese is not her go-to food, light or not. Also, Happy 100th Volume to 70’s Commercials! 🎉
The ads today are nothing like the ones from the 1970's. And I too remember a lot of these ads. I'll be 62 this year so I do remember them. Love from Marysville California
What a look at the second half of the 70s through these commercials. Even the CBS logo changed through the years as they went from one season to another. Congrats on 100 70s volumes, it was the final decade on this channel to get there!
Potassium sorbate is an extremely common preservative, mainly used to inhibit mold growth in cheese and wine. Monsanto was primarily a chemical company, I'm not sure what you expected them to do.
These are from nearly 50 years ago. The concerns that consumers had back then were different than they are today. And it was a more optimistic time when it came to food science and technology.
1:00- Richard Herd as "George". 4:03- Alexander Scourby, announcer. 11:09- Larry Haines, announcer; Cliff Norton is the "Billboard Painter". 12:09- Dan Ingram, announcer 13:10- Ralph Bell, announcer 17:08- Dan Ingram, announcer 18:39- Robert Young for Sanka 28:37- James Murtaugh 30:37- Ernie Anderson, announcer
The pharmacist in the Clorets ad is played by Richard Herd of V and Star Trek: Voyager fame. He passed away in 2020. (On a personal note, we share a birthday, September 26.)
OMG I've been waiting to hear the exact version of the *ALCOA commercial* at 12:31 , there are other variations of it on TH-cam but _this_ is the one I was seeking, yay!
I can think of so many ways that the Dick Van Patten diet commercial could go. "You made me lose weight cause I get nauseous every time I watch EIGHT IS ENOUGH."
By 1981, they tried changing the name of several of their restaurants to "No Place Like Sam's" {I recall their ad campaign during "THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON"}. As of July 2020, there's only *ONE* of them left, in Santa Barbara, Callifornia- and it's known as "Chad's", named after the grandson of the founder of "Sambo's" [Sam Battistone Sr., with his partner Newell Bohnett], who operates it.
Voiceover by Ernie "Ghoulardi" Anderson, who also did the famous ABC Network voiceovers ("The LUUUUUUVE Boat"), father of Paul Thomas Anderson. I remember him from my early childhood, hosting the monster movies on WJW in Cleveland. Ghoulardi was a legend.
At 23:37 “This Roman Meal bakery thought you’d like to know” is in Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall, pt. 3” four seconds into the song. I’ve wondered for years where it came from!
Was out of town for much of yesterday and only now seeing these, but am adding my congratulations on reaching 100 entries in the 1970s series. I wonder if the early clips in Part 1 are the oldest clips on this channel.
5:58- Those Borden "Lite-Line" commercials featuring the sexy "mouse lady" lasted from 1978 through 1983 (at least). In later ads, she gave "mouse parties" with other enticing furry femmes- but the first one was Judy "J.J." Kinnersley.
I bought my first Microwave when I started working. That thing was huge too. No turntables back then either. I never could afford a Betamax. I had a regular VCR.
Betamax was actually a type of VCR, which stands for Videocassette Recorder. Due to its success in the videotape format war VHS became synonymous with the word VCR but they're actually different things.
This is now $8.56 adjusted for inflation. Marveling at prices from 45 years ago without adjusting for inflation paints an inaccurate picture of what things cost back then.
@@80sCommercialVaultI tell people that all the time. The dollar was worth more and people didn't make as much money per hour then either. What was considered middle class wages then would be poverty wages now.
I was in high school and 10th grade had to take Driver Education. I had to drive one of those Chevy Citation. But with the Drivers Ed teacher from Hell. This man was MEAN! He said non stop to me " Speed up Grandma!" Slap my wrist. He had me so nervous I just quit getting in the car with him.

That was the style back then... most women I knew back then had glasses like that well into the early '80s.
Commercials were fantastic back then - 💟
I'm 67 so I remember most of these commercials. How different they are vs the commercials today.

The “Merry Christmas from CBS News” segment was fantastic!!!
What a look at the second half of the 70s through these commercials. Even the CBS logo changed through the years as they went from one season to another. Congrats on 100 70s volumes, it was the final decade on this channel to get there!
Thank you what walk back through childhood! I especially love how you ended it with Cronkite and the news bureaus wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
Even the commercials were higher class then. Now it's just drug and insurance ads.
The Arthritis Pain Formula guy looks like someone even Eddie Deezan and Woody Allen would beat up for being too nerdy…
He's dealing with drugs. He has a gun behind the desk. Deezen and Allen are toast.
Monsanto actually bragging about potassium sorbate preservatives. That would be negative pr nowadays.
Potassium sorbate is an extremely common preservative, mainly used to inhibit mold growth in cheese and wine.
Monsanto was primarily a chemical company, I'm not sure what you expected them to do.
I dont have any issues with it. But the consumers in todays market like to hear things like ," no additives, all natural and no preservatives.
These are from nearly 50 years ago. The concerns that consumers had back then were different than they are today. And it was a more optimistic time when it came to food science and technology.
The days when Monsanto was seen as a safe solution to world hunger.
13:40 - Makes me think of the Safety Dance music video. I bet Men Without Hats stole the travelers checks…
You can't go anywhere in Europe without a bunch of Jesters or guards in suits of armor blocking your path.
Part 2 in the books, amazing job. Once again congratulations on your 100th Volume
Brings back so many good memories of my childhood. Love to go back to those days.
John Bennett Perry in the Old Spice commercial as the sailor. His son was Matthew Perry (RIP).

@@carlosv3108thanks! I couldn't figure out where I knew him from.
Lite Line cheese ads with the Light Line mouse lady were hilarious. All of the commercials were terrific!!!!!!!
From pharmacy clerk to Alien fleet commander . What a career !!
I remember most of these...I was really young too ( Born in 1973)😊 Miss being so little 😂
Thanks for the fond memories!🙂💙💚💜🖤💯👍❤!

100! Woot! These are my favorite!
Hearing "Are whites smarter than blacks, or is that a myth?" was kind of shocking. 4:46
Lol I was not expecting that AT ALL 😳😅
Me and my children were just looking at each other after hearing that😂
Yep, media has always fueled racism.
I can think of so many ways that the Dick Van Patten diet commercial could go. "You made me lose weight cause I get nauseous every time I watch EIGHT IS ENOUGH."
I enjoy these very much - thanks. And the longer length is great, also!
The mouse lady...totally forgot about her! 😄
Love the mouse lady!
Thank you for posting these!!

Sambo’s…the most unfortunate name for a restaurant chain ever…

Those vitamin commercials have a very sexual energy lol
I hear "Nuplex" by Brian Bennett in the Spalding golf clubs ad, which begins at 0:30.
Was out of town for much of yesterday and only now seeing these, but am adding my congratulations on reaching 100 entries in the 1970s series.

I sure wish they still sold Clorets.
Amazon sells them!

Did people really go to a pharmacist for breath mints?
Woohoo 💯 🎉🎉🎉🎉
