Nice trip so far. It is a beautiful area along the canal. I have been to parts of it decades ago. Everything is so green and lush up there. Funny part humming over the bumps. Ahhahhahhahh. Great trip so far. Have a nice day.
I'm from Buffalo and ride this trail to Lockport all the time. It's very peaceful and well-maintained unlike many trails in the city. Planning on riding the whole trail to Albany this summer!
Good luck! You're gonna enjoy it, one of the best trails I've done. I actually went back after a month and rode the second leg of Empire State Trail from Albany to NYC. Check it out, a great trail.
It is cold in Buffalo! Very interesting episode. Those trees may have been weeping willows. Lovely waterfalls and whole ride in general. The D & L Canal trail that follows the Delaware river is nearly in my backyard in PA, so if you ever do that one, let me know! Thanks for sharing. Peace & Prayers.
I grew up the first 30 years of my life near Lock 20 in Marcy, NY area. Dad always took us to the lock to watch the boats go through. NY is beautiful! Of course, decades in Florida makes the 60 degree temperatures sound pretty nice!
The 60's was a perfect riding weather but after a break it felt a little cold. Haven't felt cold since last winter. It's the 90's in Florida. I got Lucky with the weather no rain. A great place to grow up. 👍
This was a great overview of your first day. I missed Holley Falls on my trip, so this was stunning to see. Looking forward to the rest of your journey.
All the day videos of my Erie Canal Trail are live. I just finished the Albany to NYC ride too, working on the videos of that one too. Thank you for watching much appreciated.
Looks like a fantastic place to ride along the water and temperatures in the 60's sounds awesome. There were so many unique looking bridges in your video.
Nice ride. Thanks for taking us along. I went to college in Rochester. My wife was born in Lockport. You rode maybe 200 yards from the home where she grew up. I'd love to ride the Erie Canal trail someday! It looks beutiful.
Erie Canal Trail is one of the best trails I ever rode. It's smooth and well marked, you would enjoy it, would bring back memories for you too. Great area!
Mike was born in Buffalo but has not been back since 2 years old. It is very nice! It is a good temp for riding! Beautiful area! We love your adventures!
Beautiful trail! We just spent 4 days in Albany recently. Vlogs coming soon from NY State Museum, few places to eat, hotel tour, etc. 60s in August sounds amazing. It's 90s here in Florida. Ride safe my friend. Talk soon.
Albany is a beautiful city. It was my first time to visit it at the end of my tour. The only problem I had was that the pedestrian bridge was shot down and in order to get to the other side of the Hudson River to Amtrak station I had to take a taxi but I made it on time. Thanks for watching. 👍
You're definitely not in Florida anymore! At the beginning of the trail, I thought it looked like it might be a bit boring compared to some other trails you've done but then it was neat with the bridges and lockes and small towns along the way. Nice falls and I think the trr you mentioned was a Weeping Willow, a favorite of mine up north!
Definitely not Florida. Started from Buffalo and headed towards Albany 360 miles to go. Doing 60-70 mile days takes 5-6 days. That's exactly how it was. The beginning of the trail was a typical bike trail but it gets very pretty as I ride. One of the best trails I've ever ridden. Beautiful historic small towns and lots of greenery on the way.
Absolutely! It's a great long distance trail I totally enjoyed it and got lucky with the weather too. If you do start from Buffalo like most people do, winds are from west to east most of the time, easier to ride. 👍
I just got done watching your video in Jacksonville Florida. I live in the Northeast and when I vacation in Florida I buy a bike on Facebook Marketplace. I like biking the many state parks up and down the East Coast so I thought I would try the Jacksonville area. A friend of mine told me about the Erie Canal bike path a couple of weeks ago and here you are with a TH-cam video
Yes I've been all over, haha. This is actually one of the most enjoyable bike tours I ever had. As you can see from my video I truly enjoyed it. This was the first day but my full ride video from Buffalo to Albany is this: th-cam.com/video/okHf--OY4SE/w-d-xo.html
Yes you can if you start from the US side. I rode it in two parts. Buffalo to Albany took me 6 days and Albany to NYC took me 3 days so a total of 9 days averaged 60 miles a day. This is my Albany to NYC ride video th-cam.com/video/XOTDq8KdQFA/w-d-xo.html
Thomas, have you road the northern trail through up state New York? From Albany to the Canadian border? My home town is just 6 miles north of Lake George.
Great video thanks for sharing. Where did u park your car? I am planning to do Albany to Buffalo this summer and I am planning to park the car in the Rensselaer train station
Hi, Thomas Indeed I like that bridge as well. is that called Truss bridge? I am certain you made research in advance to plan which bike trail you take. Yes, You got a shout on "your left", I learned from hiking/bike trail, cyclers suppose to give hikers a call. It seems a pretty and descent cloud- covering day for you to ride a bike It is surprise to see locks on the canals. wow Do they still exist/operated? Have you had one way bike trail? You found Locally owned coffee shops. Neat places to support local business What is the name of the waterfall? 14:38 hahaha man-maid, hu??? haha no cell signal? wow, Buffalo is Northern NY, No wonder if you feel cold... Wwowo, quite distance of cycling. Will see you next Day 2...ciao
Erie Canalway Trail is one of the most known long distance bike trails in the US and in lots of bikers pocket list. It's one continuous trail from Buffalo to Albany 360 miles but with different surfaces and there were a few road sections but still marked as Erie Canalway Trail and Empire State Trail. Both are the same trail but Empire State Trail is a larger trail system that covers also Erie Canal Trail. Those falls were Holly Canal Falls, actually it's a Erie Canal spillway falls and man-made. Erie Canal is still most part operational but now mostly for recreational use. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment. Next day video is coming up as soon as I can put it together. I'm now on the way back to Florida. Have a great day!

Buffalo is a beautiful city and Niagara Falls are nearby. I didn't have time to visit the falls at this time but back in 2008 I was there.
The welcome center in Brockport is awesome. Great place to camp and refresh
Yes, that's great. They have showers too.
That's really cool and interesting biking vidz my friend.
It's a great trail, more to come 🙂
Really nice Day 1! Loved the waterfall stop.

I am planning to ride from Niagara Falls(Canada) to Newyork city on a brompton this fall.

The towpath under the Slayton Settlement bridge is gated off just outside of Gasport. I believe you have to do some road riding to navigate around it.
This was a year ago I think it wasn't closed yet at that time.
@@FollowThomas yeah they closed it this spring. Just a heads up for people who are taking the trail.
Nice video.
Thank you!

Beautiful video 😮

I haven't yet but it looks like not much trail more like mostly road ride but I might still ride it since I did the other 2
I believe the trees at 3:04 that you mentioned were probably "Weeping Willow" trees.
Yes, I think so too. Thanks
Great video thanks for sharing. Where did u park your car? I am planning to do Albany to Buffalo this summer and I am planning to park the car in the Rensselaer train station
I took Amtrak all away to Buffalo and boarded again in Albany back home to Jacksonville FL
Wow that must a long journey
Thanks for the info

did you find any laundromat to wash your cloths or you brought enough cloths with you. What do you recommend?
If you carry 5-6 pairs of socks and underwear then you don't need to do laundry. That's what I did.
Oh so much brother 😊
😊
Where do u take shower while camping?
When I camped by the visitor center they had showers there and campgrounds have showers.
Where did you stay at the end of this video? Did you camp ?
Great video thank you
I boarded the train the same day from Albany. I had only 20+ miles left to go that morning.
Thank you for watching!
