I think people might be more successful with Cove, but I don't have enough playtime on ladder atm to make a judgement ;)

Mages are not that strong in a control heavy meta. All I've seen is SK, NG Ens6 and Renfri Dwarves, which is odd as there was no Renfri Dwarves before she got Nerfd +1prov. What happened? 😂 🤦🏻‍♂️
