I remember that Laura Baugh Ultra Brite commercial. And I bet a lot of other guys from that era do too, for the same reason. The Uncle Sam government spending PSA hit hard back then because Americans were finally beginning to see the Viet Nam war for what it was: a waste of money and lives. That Old Home bread ad at 8:05 features C.W. McCall in one of the series of spots that inspired his hit "Convoy".
Edison wasn't the first inventor of the lightbulb. An English inventor named Joseph Swan invented it, and presented it first. Edison sued Swan, falsely claiming that Swan had infringed Edison's patent. Edison stole many inventions from "lesser" inventors, and wielded litigation and advertising as weapons. And this commercial just perpetuates the use of advertising to continue the myth of Edison's "genius".
Edison also electrocuted elephants live and filmed it in order to coerce people into being afraid of Nikola Tesla's alternating current (which is what the world ended up using) Edison was a prick.
That VW ad was sheer genius. Remember the 'floating Bug' series, wherein a Beetle would stay afloat for something like 45 minutes?Verified by the FCC, I believe. National Lampoon ran an excellent satirical 'ad'...the caption read 'If Teddy Kennedy drove a VW, he'd be President'. Brilliant.
The art on the Russian vodka commercial is amazing
That Ford commercial was so sick! How’s your live life close second. Dang, Old Home is good buns haha these are all freaking classic!
Yes, some cool commercials on this reel of award winners.
Shucks, that's not even Edison that's Pat Hingle.

Pat Hingle is Edison I think...
You might be right, that does look like him, but wearing heavy makeup and a wig.
