    Thank you so much Rody! I've been looking for a video just like this to help me out, although was looking for something which could explain various steps in details. eg. The custom graphic design on Illustrator, etc.

    That was so confusing but, that's really cool, I want to paint my bike and put that groovy logo on it

    That looked great, nice work! I'd like to try something similar but I don't have access to a plotter so I figured I would take my image files to a vinyl graphic shop and have my stencils cut out, but I wanted to ask you what material you were using for your stencil? Obviously it had an adhesive backing, was it a paper or vinyl substrate? Is there a particular name for the adhesive layer that'll hold well enough for painting but will let go so the stencil can be removed? Thanks!

      i have the same question. I'll probably be hand cutting my stencils.

      All, in this video I use FDC brand paint mask film, a low tack vinyl...you could accomplish the same with automotive masking tape, and exacto knife and some patience. Best wishes!

    Wow that looks easy I tried this before but it's a fail I'm using spray paint I think the reason for my failure is that I sprayed to much in a short time and I didn't know if I should use masking tape or a regular bond paper like before I used them
    But thanks for showing how to do this its very helpful

      Nel, glad you were able to pick up some tips. Remember, if using spray paint, use multiple light coats to avoid too much build on the edge of the graphics. Best wishes!

    how much heavier does the frame gain with a custom paint job? have you ever weighed it

    • @johnfillups4484
      @johnfillups4484 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Tape a nickle to your bike, that's pretty much how much weight it'll be.

    why not just send the illustrator file to a decal maker and have custom decals made?

    • @GroovyCycleworks
      @GroovyCycleworks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Decals, even the thinnest water slide or dry applied, create a palpable edge in the finish requiring multiple layers of clear to "bury" the piece. The thicker the clear, the more fragile the durability against chipping. By airbrushing the graphics, you control the overall build of the finished product, creating a thin, but strong, durable finish.

    Is there anyway you could send me this decal and I could print it out? Because I really like this and if you could do that I could probably tape my bike and do this

    • @GroovyCycleworks

      Sorry Jdogg, but the Groovy Cycleworks Logo represents my companies custom bicycles and is not to be distributed for labeling other's work. I appreciate you stopping in. Perhaps the video will instill a curiosity within you to encourage you to begin exploring painting bicycles in the future. Good luck!

      Honestly, if you don't mind taking a bit more time, a simple $50 used Cricket off of Craigslist will get you started. I use mine almost daily, so a professional model is well worth the investment. For one off or hobby work, the simple cutters are just fine. Good luck!

    "Easy" "Step by step" ok, what's step 1? Oh, buy thousands of dollars in equipment and rent a space with a specialized room... OK THEN

    • @GroovyCycleworks
      @GroovyCycleworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yo Tuff_bastard...the video is a look into a professional bicycle fabrication shop, showing the process. It can easily be completed in a DIY environment with wide masking tape, an exacto knife, spray cans, and a little patience. The steps of the process remain the same. Good luck taking on your own project.
