You can press the button on the map under high low, open the options and change your color on the map as well as group color so you can see better on map

Will I see the gear at level 55 or will I only be able to get the coins. I don't understand that part.

Once you complete the missions inside the tower, you can see and buy the items from the vendor.

These mobs were cake on my level 90 nec

they finally fixed the scaling in the last patch. Prior to that, level 60 was scaled wrong and too hard. I did this on my 120 toons and it was super easy, but lower levels were broken.

Does this require dual-boxing so you can run two characters at once?

You can use just one toon, but invite lower level players to join. This will lower the average level of the encounter mobs which makes it a lot easier. But if you can get a low level newbie to join, everybody wins :)

"How to do it SOLO" in all caps... uses a group. 😀

The level 1 does not fight. It is just there to lower the level of the mob so that you can solo it.
