Well spoken and thoughtful. You speeches remind me of Hilary Hahn.
On a side note, I myself can never attach a makeshift sponge or rubber bands to a beautiful instrument! 😂

It should be noted that a shoulder rest is not required. Many players prefer to play without a shoulder rest. It is said the sound produced is better (or at least different), and some say the rest can contribute to discomfort. With that said, many players prefer the shoulder rest, primarily because it makes it easier to hold onto the instrument.

Is $ 350 - 500 a useable range or is that still too cheap?

Great question, and always somewhat hard to answer. In my experience that range will definitely get you a functioning instrument. But spending more will get you an instrument that’s more responsive and has better quality of sound.

Such great advice, Liz! So helpful to musicians of all kinds, really. Your first item answered my first question before I even asked: "So how 'bout those Amazon violin bargains, huh?!"🤯 I gather the joy of savings 🤑 quickly turns to the sorrow of regret. 😭 I have some questions about that!
Realistically, what is the minimum a beginner should expect to spend on an acoustic violin outfit in order to have a good experience learning to play? Is renting a more affordable way to get access to a higher quality instrument in the early stages of learning? Also, can buying a used instrument from a reputable shop be a good way to save money? 🤔🤔🤔
By the way, Liz, your nail polish looks like it matches your practice journal! 4:55 💅🤩♥️ #GeniusIdea You should totally sell color-coordinated journal/polish bundles in The Feel-Good Violin Club merchandise shop! 😁 Seriously, that would be so much fun! I fancy a set in black for a discerning gentleman like myself. 🤵🎩

Thanks for all your positive feedback Fred! I think I will save specific price points for another video, but to answer your question about used instruments- Many of the best instruments in the world are "used" in the sense that they were made hundreds of years ago and have been played by dozens of violinists. Sometimes the aging of materials over time can actually increase the value and add complexity and nuance to the sound. So whether or not a violin is used doesn't necessarily play into the quality of the instrument.
But I do think renting can be a great option for students wanting access to better quality instruments.
      Thanks again!

@@TheFeelGoodViolinClub Thanks for your thoughtful answer, Liz! Great point about fine historic instruments being "used" and even improving with age!

@@TheFeelGoodViolinClub P.S. I gather that very young students learn on smaller instruments which they literally outgrow as they get older. So renting during those early years might make more sense than buying a whole series of violins. 🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻
