Wearing a Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic 39mm blue dial right now, and I couldn't agree more. I think B&M and ML, possibly Junghans also, fly under the radar due to them making quartz variants of the watches as well. Tissot also does this, and it unfortunately keeps the brand perception at a lower level :/

I have an almost 50 year old Mido. Since I got it from my grandfather 20 years ago, never had a service. The date function is not working, the gold plating has worn off in a lot of places mainly at the "creases", gains about a minute a day, but hey, it still works. Great little watch and a memory of grandpa everytime I put it on.

@Angel d Teran Nomos makes their own movements from top to bottom but other than that and the very high end brands, yeah, not much in terms of German made movements. There were a lot of good German made movements up until the late 80s (made in GDR) but their main selling point was "good quality for cheap price" and this was killed in the 90s by very cheap and accurate Quartz movements.

The silicone monolithic design is a really cool innovation in mechanical watchmaking (technically Zenith did it first, but never in a significant production run, and at a ludicrous price), but the specific design of the watch face doesn't really do it for me. A Mido Multifort was the only watch that did not fall apart on my teen-aged wrist. It kept good time while a Timex cheapie would gain 5 minutes a day while I wore it. My father was amazed at how hard I was on a watch. I lost it and I forget how. So a Mido is my grail of course.

Jory, also give a look to the brand "Atlantic", gorgeous Swiss watches, company founded in 1888, for prices like Mido: Atlantic watches

As you're into vintage watches have you heard of a German company called Kienzle, I am currently wearing one that used to be my grandads and then my dads.
It's about 35mm and is quite a workhorse, it's even antimagnetic.

Can we talk about Certina? Not sure is it's an uncommon watchmaker but I wanna mention the Certina DS Action Day-Date C032.430.16.051.00.
It's like buying an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra for a fraction of the price... Beautiful watch, great quality, and great movement.

I'm surprised you haven't done anything on a Luminox field auto. The don't get any play. Maybe a little expensive with the tubes . I've had one for 6 years and the ETA is doing about -4 seconds a day and I can get the time at 5 in the morning. Thanks

Baume Mercier are the first luxury watches that caught my attention years ago. However, most I've seen are quite dressy and since I've retired, I really don't have a need for more dress watches. But yes, they definitely deserve more attention.

Of all the guys I follow with watch channels, not one talks about Raymond Weil. Not sure why they are overlooked, is it because they are relatively modern starting out in the 1970s? I really like their Freelancer range, really nice and good quality chronographs.

frederic constant kinda screwed up their image for being a "cheap mid tier" 10 years ago, "lux" reputation is difficult to fix. AFAIK. grand seiko is the only one who has managed to got out of this trap. but they also have to put up quality that's like 3x better than anything in their price range. and it took DECADES to do so. I remember in the 2000s i could never believe how good Grand seikos are for the price, and no one gave them any respect back then

Ha, I really enjoyed your video because I independently came to the same conclusion of the Glashütte Pano Powerreserve with manual wind ( more astoningly my wife pointed that out in rose gold black dial) and the federique constant I felt the same and I love my Midos vintage and reissues like the decompression timer…instead of Damasko I would have chosen Laco…pls check out the spirit of St. Louis…it resembles the original plane clock….so gorgeous and exceptional in my collection. But even Longines, Hamilton, Breguet and a lot more from the Swatch group is overlooked…even Glashütte Original belongs to the Swatch Group…or consider Glycine, Bulova, Timex, Alpina,…
