This was AWESOME! Thank you so much. What a super talented family! Every open wheeler knows about the Hoffman's. So proud of my SW Ohio German Heritage
VERY COOL STORY,NICE MAN, SAW SAMMY SESSIONS NAME ON THE WALL,WHEN I WAS A KID IN THE 60'S ,SAMMY SESSIONS WOULD COME TO THE OSWEGO SPEEDWAY AND RUN THE SUPERMODIFIEDS,WITH NOLAN AND GORDY JOHNCOCK,8 BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE.
What an awesome memory! Sammy Sessions running with the Johncocks at Oswego. Wow...doesn't get any cooler. Thanks for sharing your stories here, Mark! HMM
Thank you so much for your Hoffman Auto Racing series. I grew up right across the street from them. My father bought his first home from "The Old Timer" Hoffman way back around 1955. The Old Timer even helped with my father on the price as my Dad did all the finish work inside the house. I was always to shy to hang out at the race shop. Looking back, maybe my biggest regret in life. As I am such a gear head. I wanted to be a part of it but couldn't get past my fear. Thankfully, I outgrew my shyness as an adult. I could hear the engines rev as I lay in bed at night as they were doing last-minute tuning before leaving for a race. I even saw a few "road test" as a car would scream past my house being followed by their pick-up truck. Even though I lived so close, I learned more about the Hoffmans from your videos than being their neighbor. lol. Thankfully, I outgrew my shyness as an adult, but too late now. Again, Thank you for the video and story.
I completely empathize with you Scott. My father helped out with Jack Steck's Sprint Car operation in North Dayton. Sheldon Kinser was their driver back then and I was complete awe of the guy. Deep down, I always wanted to race Sprint Cars and compete in the Indy 500. I ended becoming a Combat Pilot in the Air Force but to this day, I regret not hanging with dad more at the shop. I regret not learning the technical side and then working my way into a driver's seat. There's just something about us Germans, that's lures us to automotive machinery and precision. Though I teach Pilots to fly the 737 Max for American Airlines, nothing gets the hair on the back of my neck tingling like the sight and sounds of Sprint Cars.
Fascinating story 👍 I was just spinning through TH-cam and slammed on the brakes when I saw Hoffman Racing ! Great job, looking forward to seeing more.
What a parallel; work for a bank and just bought my first Sprint Car ... first time in the seat was lap 1 heat 4, 3 heats later we're in the main feature
I was at the big "e" just after vogler's wreck and they took the #1 off the car and put the 69 back on it. They had a little #1 with the word rich on it.
Thomas Black bought a 360 Robbie Stanley car in, I believe 95, could have been 94 but I'm thinking 95. He rented paragon speedway that year and I'm honored to say I got to drive one of Hoffman's cars. I don't know where that car ever ended up.
My word that might be your best interview yet. I was always a big Hoffman fan from Robbie Stanley to Rich Vogler and everyone that has ever sat in the 69 car. Rob is such a great speaking person I still go back and watch the Hidden Hero’s episode of the family. Wow how exciting!
One of your best. Not far from me here in Cincinnati. I know a number of folks who have been over there for open houses and tours. Great racing family. Thanks for the tour.
I was just wondering...Did Jerry Coons Jr. drive for the Hoffman's at one point? I was friends with his dad Jerry Sr. and knew Jerry Jr. as far back as his dirt track Go Kart days when his was little. They're a great family, 3 generations of racing family and Jerry Jr. has been a regular in the USAC Sprint and Silver Crown Series for many years.
This was AWESOME! Thank you so much. What a super talented family! Every open wheeler knows about the Hoffman's. So proud of my SW Ohio German Heritage

A lot of triumph and sadly tragedy in the 69 sprint car
