Hey everyone, thought I'd share some thoughts on an incredibly affordable 35mm rangefinder: the Olympus 35 DC. This is a fantastic camera to carry with you this summer as its size is very manageable and the automatic features make for a very simple shooting experience. Hope you enjoy.

The 35DC was the first 35mm camera I got after starting to shoot film again, and I keep going back to it. Such a nice, uncomplicated and beautiful camera. Had the SP too but I preferred the DC.
I barely have one camera, he's out there with a camera for every season.

This is the same reason I love the Olympus OM10. Aperture priority makes it so painless to shoot anything

my grandpa bought that camera for my mom when he went to a trip to japan, then she gave it to me and it stayed a rlly long time in my nightstand as decoration bc i was too young to understand it, i’m rlly glad i saw this video, i can’t wait to use it! 💌

The only rangefinder I own is the Olympus XA but this video has definitely got me interested in a 35 with a random combo of letters behind it! Haha. Nice video and your production quality is getting to be top notch!

Well all the photos were shot on the Olympus shown in the video on colorplus 200 film, no luts. Video was on a gh5s and color corrected in premiere.

What you said about its size is really making me consider getting one now. I mean I'm using a Pentax Spotmatic so it's not like I use a beast like Pentax 6x7, but getting a more compact point and shoot is def something I should consider

Cool little camera you have there. Thanks for sharing. You should check out the Olympus Trip 35 i have one and it is such a great camera. It is as this one fully automatic but the trip 35 doesnt requier any battery at all. It is a really interesting camera to take a look and also very cheap.

Old cameras are literally built like a tank. I used to play with Yashica 35, not knowing it is still functional. My cousin probably has it somewhere with her other toys.

How to get file on film roll?
I've heard that it is hard to get the two images to line up within the viewfinder for beginners. Do you think that is something you struggled with? Thank you!

Hi! Thinking of buying a rangefinder camera. Which one would you recommend Olympus 35 DC or Canon Canonet QL17? Thank you!

hey, i just wonder do you only shot this on bright / sunny background? since it has no flash right? unless i buy one?
I assume since it's a year + on from this comment you have resolved this already, but very generally speaking yeah shooting in reasonably bright light would be easiest. Depends on ISO of the film, think the smallest max aperture is f2.8 on this series (and up to f1.7) so some indoors is doable on like 800 iso, but probably good to shoot with decent natural light if you're not sure.
where do you get a battery for it?

I always liked the 35 series. But ive always prefered the canon canonet series over the olympus. I think they are much sharper, especially my 1.7 giii. The canonet i spoke of is a bit more expensive, but I think its well worth the extra money

@@BraeHunziker the light meter recently stopped working on mine and i still love to shoot with it. It is my tote around camera, so i was liking the shutter priority mode. Almost using it like a point and shoot. Ive just been shooting sunny 16 with it with good results. You dont even need a battery for the camera to operate normally as well. Super sharp little camera. You should check one out if you ever get the chance
Among the Oly versions mentioned here is the 35RD. It is nearly a dead ringer for the Canon QL17 GIII in terms of features, camera operation and lens quality. These two cameras are hands down the compact fixed lens cameras with the best lenses ever made. Unhappily for a would be buyer, the 35RD is even more expensive than the Canon, probably because there are not nearly as many of them out there.
While shooting this, do you used flash for the camera?
Nope
Would you say it's a solid replacement to the Canon A1? I know you usually use the ae1 right?
For me, it’s a not a replacement because I’m not a huge rangefinder guy. I’ll shoot more serious work on the ae-1 and use the Olympus to just bring out on the boat or on a hike.
@@BraeHunziker that is a really good point actually. Speaking of cameras have you ever heard of the fuji ga645 👀 might be interesting for you to try it. Essentially a point and shoot medium format camera!!
No, and no one familiar with either camera would. The A-1 is a full sized SLR with a mass of accessories and interchangeable lenses. It runs from manual to fully automatic exposure and may the best single SLR Canon ever made. The EC is a compact fixed lens rangefinder with an "adequate" lens, fully automatic and no manual control of exposure. The only thing the two camera have in common is that they both take 35mm film.

Love that hobo strap on your olympus. I have a Minolta Hi-Matic F, also a nice automatic rangefinder but I think I will switch to an Olympus 35 RC because sometimes I want that manual mode 😅

Brae Hunziker like the shutter wouldn't go all the way to slide the film sometimes .
If your not able to advance the lever ( assuming you’re in A mode) it’s because the light meter suspects it’s not exposed correctly. Just correct the aperture and it should unlock itself to allow you to advance and shoot. OR it could be that you have it turned to Off position on the ring.

So it's basically like Rollei XF 35 only with difference that Rollei has super sharp Zeiss Sonnar Lens and is smaller than Olympus.
