I honestly can not fathom how they managed to create an entire town along with the theme, visuals, music, units and everything else that fits SO WELL with the original game. This is truly a masterpeace! Rest in peace Docent, you were a god amongst men!

@@Szymex-vh9jg I wouldn't go as far. Factory is amazing, but Cove is an absolute work of art. This is probably best Heroes town theme, at least for me (with Fortress being a close second). It's such a shame we won't be able to hear Picolans final version of Factory theme
@@Szymex-vh9jg Not even close. I love what they have done with Factory, but Cove is one of the beast towns in the entire game in every way IMO. I am still adjusting to the Mechanics. If it wasn't for them I would have liked Factory even more, but I just cant get over the flamethrowers lol
helps that the framework for cove comes from the actual might and magic series, from might and magic 8 specifically
it's less of a "lets make something new!" and more of a "these guys deserve to be in the game, lets make it happen."

Impressive how much it fits in with the game, despite being a fan-made addition. Great job.
They did a great job with Cove of using a pre-established nation/theme within the game's universe to build off of. The island of Regna was a place you visited in Might and Magic 8. So we got to see the types of creatures present there. And they were very faithful to it in choosing the aesthetic of Cove and the unit line-up. IE, the Pirates, corsairs, seamen, sea-witches/sorceresses - all present in Might and Magic 8.

Yeah. This is what modded towns don't get right - music and sound. They may have fantastic townscreens and creature designs but the town music usually ruins the experience. Cove nailed this perfectly. It feels more "vanilla" than for example Conflux....
As a musician I can say that the orchestration is very similar, but the style of composition itself is different enough to recognize that this music is not original.. but still it's a pretty good job from author

A very fitting theme in true Heroes 3 fashion. Horn of the Abyss is a most worthy expansion of this classic game.
But the campaign is ridiculously hard.
@@xxlCortez Is it really bad though? Considering how easy was heroes chronicles compared to AB and SoD.
There are also cool concepts like Bidley being locked out of Casmetra and Jeremy yet requiring their help.
@@avragidootisdumb I'd say, yes, it's bad. Not everyone is competition-level player which these campaigns require.
@@xxlCortez Yeah, I'm agreed, it's incredibly, even stupidly hard, especially considering how you're low on units and/or you have to rely on a single cannon most of the time. Surely it is an unexpected change of pace.
@@avragidootisdumb but unfortunately, that's not inviting for more casual players who are also interested in that storyline. The difficulty option should be enough to make things rougher but this requires specific things to do instead of multiple strategy option.
Amazing tune, fits the game and the faction so well! Makes you want to play more with this faction, which is exactly the purpose of faction music.
Not to mention the faction itself is amazing mechanically and aesthetically

A truly impressive homage to the original Heroes 3 towns. It fits right in perfectly.
With the level 3 shooter being upgradable 2 times and their level 7 being quite op as for stats i would say they are a tad bit op

@@Abelhawk Pirates and sorceresses were in Might and Magic 8. It takes place on continent (or island?) Regna in the same world as HOMM1-3 and MM6-7 - Enroth.
So yeah, pirates had place in this world already. And early guns aren't very far from magic. I mean, if FF6 managed to mix magic and steampunk...
@@mapmakerlich Technology and Magic are the same in the might and magic universe, The only difference is understanding as far as im aware they both use the same principles much as a pistol catapult and laser all use the same concept of releaseing and redirecting stored energy (gravitational energy, chemical and electrical). Its a knod to the old adage any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
@@gaborb.2926 I don't think Cove is too overpowered. All of their units are super-slow, everything except Nixes are very squishy, and the town is expensive to build. The Haspid dwelling is 30K gold to get the basic and upgraded versions, which is the same price as Black Dragons for a non-flying melee creature, so they should have good stats for that price. Also, Sea Serpents are terrible, so you kinda have to upgrade them.
Cove certainly isn't weak, but I would put them at upper mid tier at best.

Learning that Cove is a completely fan-made town felt wild to me. One cannot in any way differentiate between it and 3DO's work whether it's the design, graphics or gameplay. And, as someone pointed out: while Factory, too, is loveable, Cove is just something else.

On the HoMM3 orchestra concert yesterday, Paul Anthony Romero told that main theme of the Cove is inspired by a melody from Cold - Stupid Girl song that Romero was actually engaged in. So I think that's why it fits so perfectly :)
Or it might be just a coincidence, just like you can find some parts similar to cove in "It's my life". without Docent Picolan we will never know what has inspired the track back then.
@@Crazy-Drokon Paul Romero also told that he knew Docent Picolan and also told that this melody had a little roundtrip. It was firstly used by Cold band, then it was simplified and used by NiN member but I didn't hear the details about that on the concert. And then it was used in Cove theme, just to be remastered by HoMM orchestra :)

If you can play Cove well and smart... with Jeremy, and combine it with some Castle units (Angels/Archangels), then this town will take down EVERYONE/everything!
Jeremy with his Cannon is a nightmare to everyone facing it :D He starts with Artillery and Offense as well, learns Earth magic pretty easy, give him Expert Leadership as well, Tactics, Wisdom and you will see magical stuff! :D

sadly I downloaded a version of heroes 3 which doesn´t have any music. it seriously damages the over all feel of the game, but this one is kinda nice.
Question is if this town is well balanced compared to the official H3.

Sea Dogs are basically ranged Mighty Gorgons and Nixes are defensive Behemoths. Sea Serpents poison and deal 150% retaliation damage, Assyids attack twice. Sea Witches’ attacks cast disrupting ray. They have a canon which is like a ballista but more powerful and can attack castle walls. They have an offense specialist. It’s such a broken town lol.

I imagine some of the videos had to be either hidden or reuploaded for some reason. This is the only one that retained views, probably because it's Hota exclusive.

Music is great, but the graphic design of the town seems too computer-like and artificial. I don't know how to explain. Visually it doesn't fit perfectly with other towns.
The problem is that Heroes 3, both the base game and HotA, are largely made of 3D models that have been converted into sprites. It's really, really hard to perfectly imitate the limitations of computers in the 90s, so the HotA models are noticeably higher-quality than the base game. Paradoxically, this makes them look more fake.
I think the team did a fantastic job of matching the game's art style, better than any other mod I've ever seen, but it does stand out slightly.
