The fabrics that I find and don't recognize are usually some that came to me by way of a surprise box on my doorstep, with a note. "Mom can't sew anymore and I know that you do. Use what you want and toss the rest. Thanks." No name or number, I guess that they didnt want any back.😉🤣🤣 Over several days boxes of sewing bits and pieces arrive, sometimes a sewing machine or two. I connected with a charity group and together found homes for the ones that worked, plus a stashxof supplies to get them started. I also offered lessons if needed. Fabric, and sewing, bringing people together again.🥰💖

I'm glad you mention what all it involves to run a business. People are always complainng on what low wages employers pay. Say for instance Wal Mart. Employees just go there and work. Never think about the cost to operate the place. Businesses are there to make a profit. Employees get free parking, work in a comfortable environment warm/cool. I didn't know hot water bottles were still made. I haven't seen them since I was a kid in the 50s. I'm impressed with your ability to make so many items without burning out on that particular style. I made a lot of masks to donate to the hospital but I burned out on them after a few months. Now I only make masks for family & friends. Your merchandise is beautiful.
Thank you Sue. I do suffer burn out several times with my stock. It's another reason I make so many at a time. If I get ahead, I don't have to look at them again for a while. Hot water bottles are still going strong. You can still buy them everywhere. I did over 2000 masks for our town. I hope never to make one again 😁😁

Thanks for the great video! So many details and excellent advice for the “best sellers” and how to price them. I’m making the shopping bags exactly the same way. I love making them and love that people grab em up!! I’m expanding my bag making and adding the “shiny objects “hardware zips etc… and by pricing the basics like you have done here, I believe I’m pricing correctly for market. I sold a specialty bag a few weeks ago for $55. And that feels pretty good to know what that work is worth to the customer. Got a name, license and the branding doesn’t have to be over the top… it just has to be part of the finishing touch! Oh and started using variegated thread for topstiches!! People Love that because it’s a mystery for the non sewists 😊! Thanks again for sharing your passion and good -business sense!!!
Another apron idea would be a good selling item for vendors in any type of market. It is just a simple flat rectangle shape with pocket across the front for pens/pencils, note pads and cash. Similar to a waitress apron. They go well in the area I live in, and are priced in a wide range depending on how elaborate you want to go. Love your items and you have such a neat and tidy shop. Tfs

May I suggest the poop bags can also double up as small tissue storage to put into handbags, also the bags with no labels maybe reduce the price of those so you can get them sold rather than having them sitting on the shelf and then put them at the front of the shop as reduced items, every one loves a sale .😍

Beautiful goodies all over your shop! Love the back pack one you shown us. Love to see how you are using fabrics etc that won't hopefully make there place into our landfills. Too much is going into places such as that and its the same here in Ohio here in the U.S.
@@jd1135 for me it's mostly word of mouth, but furniture and curtain manufacturers often have scraps they throw out. Become friendly with them, and you could get lots of fabric that way. My suppliers know that if I get fabric for free, I always sell my makes with free fabric. That helps a lot🙂

Thank you Sarah. I'm going to fo a video on sourcing fabric and other things viewers have asked about, but to source fabric you could try curtain/furniture manufacturers. They often have ends of rolls from leftover jobs, and for smaller pieces, get discontinued swatches from furniture suppliers🙂
Hello just saw your inquiry. I have called shops that reupholster furniture and ask if they have any fabrics they can donate for projects. I've done this twice with success. Also thrift stores around higher end neighborhoods, where people redecorate regularly,or vacation areas, will have TONS of curtains and draperies at dirt cheap prices, and in large pieces that you can cut many projects out of. Thank you for sharing how you buy in bulk, your local sources for those in your country, and how to sew particular products. I really appreciate how you said that labels make all the difference. Do you think their is a huge difference between a generic handmade label and a custom label? I think their would be which is why you are doing so well. Question: are people particular about the colors or patterns of the fabric? What makes ppl that want to purchase but end up not purchasing? Ie is their a way to convert more ppl to become buyers or should one just accept that their will be many lookers that don't end up buying?
When I began using this fabric, I thought the patterned fabric would sell the best, and it does. However to my surprise, people love the plain ones too and I sell heaps of them. I don't know what makes people not purchase. Sometimes I could be too encouraging, other times it's a matter of personal finances, or partners influence. To convert more buyers I've found my story on the bags helps tremendously. People want to support recycling, and in my case love that a product is handmade in the small town they're visiting. These are good questions. I'll do a video talking about these points and some others soon 😁

Thank you Krishna.... Yes, I do make all these myself. I don't actually do that much sewing really. At least not every day. I'm fortunate that I have a sewing/alterations space in my shop, and in between serving customers, I sit and sew all day. I also have a sewing space at home. When I make my products to sell, I usually cut enough fabric to make several of any product. The next video I will put up in a few days will show you how I do my batch sewing where I make 20 little bags at once😁 My advice when you start is to just have a go. Start off small, and listen to what your customers want. Most of my ideas have come from customer's requests. Sew as straight as you possible can, and take the time to design some simple labels. They have made the biggest difference in my sales. Good luck! 😊

I just watched this video and the one on finding free fabrics. I love that you do this. I also gather fabrics and don'ts allow throw away bits. I am now in assisted living in a tiny apartment with a few tubs of fabric here and 15 tubs in storage. I'll soon be teaching the reclaiming of fabrics from spoiled clothes and making clothing from them. Another course using small bits sewn together like crazy quilts, then making things for the homeless that can be lined with sweatsuit fabric I have lots to dispose of. A good teaching lesson and social skills at the same time. 😍 Thanks so much for the reminder. I'd send a photo, but can't figure out how.

Hello there, the 2nd attempt at your wonderful hand towel topper was easier than the 1st.... . The Ist attempt I had my iron on label upside down so I unpicked it all. When resewing the tutorial was on for every steep. Thank you so much for the easy to follow instructions. Well second time anyway ha ha

May I ask if you could possibly do a tutorial on your Tablet Cases ? I especially like the pocket on them. I also have a box of upholstery and curtain fabric off cuts and had no idea what to do with them. I think tablet cases and the expandable shoe bags are a great solution Thank you

How do you come across fabric to save? Where do you find this how do you find fabric ? Is it free then? How would one go about finding old fabric?
@@jd1135 for me it's mostly word of mouth, but furniture and curtain manufacturers often have scraps they throw out. Become friendly with them, and you could get lots of fabric that way. My suppliers know that if I get fabric for free, I always sell my makes with free fabric. That helps a lot🙂

Thank you Sarah. I'm going to fo a video on sourcing fabric and other things viewers have asked about, but to source fabric you could try curtain/furniture manufacturers. They often have ends of rolls from leftover jobs, and for smaller pieces, get discontinued swatches from furniture suppliers🙂
Hello just saw your inquiry. I have called shops that reupholster furniture and ask if they have any fabrics they can donate for projects. I've done this twice with success. Also thrift stores around higher end neighborhoods, where people redecorate regularly,or vacation areas, will have TONS of curtains and draperies at dirt cheap prices, and in large pieces that you can cut many projects out of. Thank you for sharing how you buy in bulk, your local sources for those in your country, and how to sew particular products. I really appreciate how you said that labels make all the difference. Do you think their is a huge difference between a generic handmade label and a custom label? I think their would be which is why you are doing so well.
Question: are people particular about the colors or patterns of the fabric? What makes ppl that want to purchase but end up not purchasing? Ie is their a way to convert more ppl to become buyers or should one just accept that their will be many lookers that don't end up buying?
When I began using this fabric, I thought the patterned fabric would sell the best, and it does. However to my surprise, people love the plain ones too and I sell heaps of them. I don't know what makes people not purchase. Sometimes I could be too encouraging, other times it's a matter of personal finances, or partners influence. To convert more buyers I've found my story on the bags helps tremendously. People want to support recycling, and in my case love that a product is handmade in the small town they're visiting.

Thank you Krishna.... Yes, I do make all these myself. I don't actually do that much sewing really. At least not every day. I'm fortunate that I have a sewing/alterations space in my shop, and in between serving customers, I sit and sew all day. I also have a sewing space at home. When I make my products to sell, I usually cut enough fabric to make several of any product. The next video I will put up in a few days will show you how I do my batch sewing where I make 20 little bags at once😁
My advice when you start is to just have a go. Start off small, and listen to what your customers want. Most of my ideas have come from customer's requests. Sew as straight as you possible can, and take the time to design some simple labels. They have made the biggest difference in my sales.

I just watched this video and the one on finding free fabrics. I love that you do this. I also gather fabrics and don'ts allow throw away bits. I am now in assisted living in a tiny apartment with a few tubs of fabric here and 15 tubs in storage. I'll soon be teaching the reclaiming of fabrics from spoiled clothes and making clothing from them. Another course using small bits sewn together like crazy quilts, then making things for the homeless that can be lined with sweatsuit fabric I have lots to dispose of. A good teaching lesson and social skills at the same time. 😍 Thanks so much for the reminder. I'd send a photo, but can't figure out how.

Hello there, the 2nd attempt at your wonderful hand towel topper was easier than the 1st.... . The Ist attempt I had my iron on label upside down so I unpicked it all. When resewing the tutorial was on for every steep. Thank you so much for the easy to follow instructions. Well second time anyway ha ha
