Kong Rong is a 20th generation descendant of Kong Zi, namely Confucius. He was defeated by Yuan Tan in 196 and escaped to Cao Cao's court. For being a political opponent of Cao Cao and humiliating him on multiple occasions, Kong Rong was eventually put to death on various charges.
Qi was the easternmost and last state of the pre-Han Chinese people to fall to Qin. Established first in the early Zhou dynasty as a march of the legendary Jiang Ziya (fun to read), a minister and supreme commander of King Wen (the founder) of Zhou, Qi later became a dukedom which produced one Hegemon (another good read) of the Spring and Autumn period, and then a kingdom, whose rule was eventually wrestled away from the Jiang by the Tian family. All in all, naming Kong Rong's dukedom as Qi is very appropriate.
One of my favorite factions, you can really play tall with Kong Rong and are rewarded for it. Buying territory and upgrading your cities is so powerful in this game that you will be making thousands of copper a turn by just playing tall and focusing on assignments, admins, and buildings.
I feel the same way. I mostly play Rtk 2 cause nostalgia and he's always just.... there. Starting shit with Tao Qian and Wang Lang over in the Home For Infinite Losers.
really liking these faction overview for 3k donkey thanks i hope you will do best units snd heroes in game etc...in the future, but the faction overview are awsome im pretty much decided on kong rong and cao cao for my second campaign
Dong Zhuo or Yuan Shu. Yuan Shu has the only unique niche units that do not become irrelevant because of a better Dragon or Palace unit later on. As in the Warriors of the left who at Lvl 6 are almost as good as Protectors of Heaven, the second strongest infantry unit in the game if Azure Dragons ranged damage is considered. Xiliang cavalry are extremely powerful cavalry who nearly equal Jade Dragons in power without their survivability or that of Tiger cav. Lu Bu is strong af and so is Zhang Liao. Yuan Shao's unique units get overshadowed heavily by better Palace Guard units in late game. And Liu Biao is old. Imperial Defenders are weaker Heavy Spear Guards for increased price. Unique units need to be ones that add massive punch to a faction's early game and allow them to either snowball or synergize. As such Sun Jian is by far the strongest start in the game apart from Cao Cao because if both of their versatility imo. Thanks for this MrSmartDonkey!☺️ Sorry for the long post, just sharing my thoughts here.
Doing a MP campaign with my friend on very hard. I had a really tough start, Huang Shao was really difficult to deal with early on for me and I wasn't able to take him out for a while due to taishan having a decent garrison and Huang Shao having two armies, I didnt' get the trade port early on and was having such a difficult time with Huang Shao that Lui Bei got all the provinces on that Peninsula behind me. Eventually my friend, playing as Cao Cao, had to come bail me out haha Or he was supposed to bail me out but declared war on Lui Bei not realizing that Lui Bei was already vassailized by Yuan Shao, who alreaady had like 10 vassals, dragging us both in ww3 basically. We actually lost, had to sue for peace and become Yaun Shaos bitch, err I mean vassals. Turned out to the be the right move though, we got him to pay us to join all of his wars making us each almost 4k per turn. Using that to rebuild and not having to worry about the Yuan Shao vassals avengers army we were able to conquer a large part of the map and just got to the 3 kingdoms phase of the game with the 3 kingdoms being Wei, Song, and Wu. By then Yuan Shao had liberated both of us. I'm about to get the capital of WU to become one of the kingdoms, then we complete the game by getting our long awaited revenge on Yaun Shao and his vasslas haha
That sounds awesome! Really, it was an interesting read, and it makes me sad none of my friends play Total War, haha. Anyway, thanks for the tale! Hope it ended in glorious victory! :)
He is a vassal of mine like every game except when I play him, he is the most trusting vassal if I ever see one. And he buys everything, just sell him whatever you don't need.
I think they don't sell it off, they just equip it on their leader, Huangfu Song, like Liu Biao does with Huang's bow. So if you can kill or capture Huangfu Song, maybe you can get the bow.
I love Kong Rong’s outfit, it almost reminds me of something a high elf would wear lol. Although to call it “armor” is a bit of a stretch... (although I have heard that thick silk is surprisingly effective at stopping cuts and slashes from breaking the skin).
One interesting strategy with Kong Rong I have used is to bail out of the NE entirely - hear me out before going What!? :) It can be quite tough to grab the entire peninsula with Liu Bei in the area and being pushed by the yellow turbans at the start. Forming that second army tanks your income doubly due to upkeep and reduced trade which can leave you reliant on allies to provide the heavy lifting. So.. an alternate strategy is to sail south round the coast once you secured lets say Behei, Tianshan and maybe Dong if possible (swap land/buy land with whomever). Land down south close to the Shi (stop along the way if low on supplies and just rebuild a settlement or take a Han one) - take rebuild your new heartland - there is one trade port on the coast to be rebuilt, then crush the Shi for that lovely spice and buddy up to Sun Jian. This free's you of the incessant wars in the NE and allows you to trade more securely - sell off land if you want in the NE to fund this as you expand and you can really buddy up with Liu Bei and Yuan Shou as a result. Having started in the NE you will still be aware of those factions and can still trade. Its certainly different and I wouldn't sail south until having around 24-32k in the bank to rebuild settlements (or know I can get that by selling land to Liu Bei for example). As Sun Jian tends to push east along the Yangtze you can push west and inland with little friction - just to the NW of the trade port on the coast are livestock and rice for food to get you started - income really comes from taking out the Shi - getting those Spice provinces up with their attendant commerce will give you a massive income not reliant solely on trade.
excited to see you build a crossbow centred army and wreck everyone from range. Also those unique ranged abilities then general has could be very good against generals and enemy cav on the charge. Maybe I should have voted for Kong instead of the warlord.
Kong Rong can have crossbow only army that are viable, just need a few repeating crossbow to stop cavalry charge, as your unique crossbowmen are able to handle melee with what survive to your line.
Bows seem far to rare to me for Taishi Chi to be really useful. In every campaign I've played with him, I can never grab one. The AI have a habit of immediately equipping everything they get, so trading for one isn't really an option either.
Peter Börjesson the yellow turbans were basically a taoist peasant rebellion that wanted to overthrow the Han empire after which they believed the sky would turn yellow and everyone would be able to live in peace.
I do still want to do more of these, just have to find the time, and with the game changing so much it might be worth waiting until all DLC is out before making more.
I wish I understood more how to get trade deals going. I've had issues where I have multiple unused trades ... and people adjacent to me and not hostile also have unused trades but I don't get the option to set up a route with them. Not sure if it's a lack of trade routes or a bug or what.
Here is also a tip: Han Empire has a buttload of stockpiled money and huge income Per turn. 1. Take their City 2. Sell it back to them for 500 regular income 3. Rinse and repeat 4. ??? 5. Huge profit.

Funny how the real traditional confucianism scholars like Kong Rong were the ones that despited trading and merchants.
Good point.

Perhaps a warring states period reference.
