  • 2014 ford explorer oil change. Thank you for watching if you have any questions I have knowledge in many areas and would be glad to help.
    The 2014 Ford Explorer, now in its fourth year as a large crossover utility vehicle, continues to be both one of the best-known U.S. nameplates and a strong seller among those who need seven seats and a lot of interior volume. The original high-volume SUV for Ford has evolved, along with American family needs, and today the Explorer share much of its underpinnings with Ford's big sedans, as well as the Ford Flex large wagon. That might not be the right stuff if you need to cross the Rubicon it's just right for all-weather family transit.
    The Explorer offers plenty of room for lots of people, or lots of stuff, and it does it much more efficiently than it did in previous generations based on trucks. And it still retains some mud-running bona fides too--even if they probably were only ever weekend ambitions for most of their suburban owners. Simply put, for almost everything a family would throw at the 2014 Ford Explorer, it does it better than before--and it does what the wide majority of us need to do in a crossover.
    In style, the Explorer doesn't turn away too abruptly from the past. Inside it does its best impression of a Taurus sedan in look and feel, albeit a little more upright. Performance is buttoned-down, almost to sport-wagon standards, with predictable, benign handling and available all-wheel drive. The 3.5-liter V-6 that's offered through most of the lineup is plenty quick, while the front-wheel-drive Explorer with an EcoBoost four is best kept for those who seldom if ever take advantage of this vehicles spacious seating. The Explorer Sport is a different personality--very quick, taut, and faster than any V-8 Explorer of the past; it's a crossover extension of the Taurus SHO, essentially.
    The 2014 Ford Explorer has one of the most spacious interiors on the market--especially if you judge it by passenger space. Up to seven passengers can fit, and five adults will be fine in the front two rows. Getting into the third row is a little tougher than it is for the Ford Flex, as the Explorer sits taller. Every inch of this interior seems to be designed with family use in mind, and a power tailgate and power-folding seats are there to make it more convenient.
    Those carlike underpinnings mean that the 2014 Explorer can't quite hit the trails with the likes of the Grand Cherokee. But on-the-road handling is its forte, and it has quick, well-weighted steering plus terrific ride control, thanks to its substantial curb weight and an independent suspension. Highway miles truly are its friend.
    That doesn't preclude it from getting dirty now and then. A Terrain Management system controls stability and other systems to limit wheelspin while maintaining a 5,000-pound towing capacity. It's definitely Explorer Lite compared to the distant past, but it's still quite capable, in the wider view.
    Going by safety, the Explorer is one of the safest

    i would suggest priming the filter with 1/2 a quart to minimize the length of dry start. this will allow the oil to reach the engine faster.

    Besides priming the new oil filter, it's a K&N you don't need a filter wrench. That large nut in the bottom is for a 1" socket or wrench. Makes life much easier.

    • @lukeWiz44
      @lukeWiz44 ปีที่แล้ว

      should be only hand tight. and not necessary to prime the filter.

    Just bought a 2012 Ford Explorer with only a hundred thousand miles on it. Your video helped me to know that it wouldn't be a process full of special tools and crap LOL nice job! And the other person that mentioned priming the filter reminds me when I was an oil lube manager they always told us that on turbo models that we should Prime the filter. Currently I've been doing it on every vehicle I change the oil on. No lengthy dry starts at all!!
    If you have a oil filter mounted sideways you can still get some oil in there, But if they are screwing on from the bottom it's a perfect situation.

    Great video. A better idea for all under-vehicle oil filters is to use a gallon zip-lock bag and put it over filter as you loosen. All oil and the filter just drop in the bag with a lot less mess and oil-soaked rags lying around. If you are big into the eco-thing, you can use the bag to empty the last oil into your pan, pull out the filter and re-use the bag.

      Depends I wouldn’t recommend doing that if you work on cars for a living some people drive their cars all day before bringing it in for service. That oil and filter is so hot it can actually melt right thru the plastic bag.

    It is sound advice to use a spanner with a 6 sided boxed end to remove oil plugs. This plug head will have tools on it more than any other fastener on your vehicle, there is no reason to ever chance rounding it and causing problems. Also when you oil the gasket on the new filter oil the threads on the new filter so there is no dry metal to metal contact. The oil plug has a crush washer on it to help the metal to metal seal between the oil plug and oil pan. I will suggest that that washer be replaced anytime it shows wear the plug drips oil at all or every 5th oil change. Some people want that washer changed every time but that is as crazy as never doing it! Also any place that you fill and drain always take the fill cap or plug out first. I say this because if you have trouble and want to give up for the day you can do that easily before you drain. If you drain first you are stuck finishing the job. I also recommend prefilling the filter and using clean oil on all surfaces after any remaining dirty oil is whipped off.

    The only note I can make is that you use the wrong side of the wrench. The box end will prevent slipping save your knuckles in the corners of the plug

    I have always changed the oil on my vehicles. Jack the vehicle up, secure with emergency break on, jack stands and tire chock. The ramps eliminates the jack and jack stands. I will get a set.

    Ok, I've always been told to NEVER oil the top of the new filter seal with the OLD crappy oil, cuz it may have grit, metal shavings etc in it. and you can trap a piece on the rubber seal.. and ruin the seal ..
    Dunno if it's true, but made sense to me, and I've always taken a tab of new oil on the filter..

    Just got a new 2015 Explorer 3.5 V6 no ecoboost. At what mileage should I change the oil and then what are the intervals after initial oil change?? Thanks!

    • @D.I.Y._All-in-One
      @D.I.Y._All-in-One  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would change for the first time at 5,000 and after that Ford recommends changing the oil every 7,500 miles or six months, whichever comes first. This recommendation assumes the usage of Motocraft 5W-20 brand oil or an equivalent and normal driving conditions. Special driving conditions include towing a trailer, carrying heavy loads, extensive idling or low-speed driving, off-road driving, driving in dusty areas and using a flex fuel. If you have special driving conditions, you should change the oil every 5,000 miles, six months or after 200 hours of engine operation, whichever occurs first.
      Only use oils that are have the American Petroleum Institute trademark symbol "For Gasoline Engines" on the container as this guarantees that the product meets current engine and emission system requirements. You should never use oil additives, cleaners or other engine treatments. If you are maintaining your vehicle per Ford's guidelines, additives and cleaners are not necessary.
      When you change the oil, you should also replace the oil filter. Ford production filters and certain aftermarket filters are specifically designed to extend the life of your engine. Using a filter that does not meet Ford's specifications may cause engine knocking. Ford recommends the Ford production filter and the Motorcraft filter or an equivalent.

      +clsallinone I need some guidance. Today, the vehicle's Change Engine Oil Soon light came on. I thought it was an electronic alert due to cold weather but still decided to check the oil. It came up dry. I was confused. And then I thought maybe to run the engine while checking the dipstick. I saw some splatter of oil. Still not convinced, I drove to the nearest Oil Change place and after checking said I need to put in 6 quarts. I put in 5 quarts of Mobil Synthetic (75000 + mileage) when I did the change.
      I also changed my Air Filter to KN from the generic brand about 3 weeks ago. What could be wrong? Any suggestions? Thank you.

      might have to use a cheater pipe. its a pipe that you slide over the wrench to give you more leverage. you can use a bigger wrench as a cheater also. Make sure its a really snug fit on bolt before attempting or you can strip it easy with the extra leverage .
