I'm very interested to see what this game turns into. This will be the first game Indiana is playing real talent this year. I understand Michigan is a little down this year but im not sold on Indiana yet.... The outcome of this game will really set my opinion on how good they really are. Very excited to see what these two teams show is this week !
1. Wink Martindale is not Michigan's priority problem - Kirk Campbell is. 2. Martindale inherited players he didn't recruit necessarily give him time his system will work. I like the fact that he loves the blitz - he just needs to focus on balancing that out with pressure looks as well. 3. Michigan Is paying a price for having pulled the plug on Orji's off-season development and being able to gel with the rest of the running backs and tight ends because they had to subsidize a pocket passer the system was not prepared to accommodate because they ended up promoting a position coach to a full on OC, bad mistake - this retasked the offensive line and basically that was one of the cheese started to slide off the cracker right there.
Wink is the best coach on this staff! He’s adjusting well back to the college game as it’s taking a few games and improving. Please get him some talent and a bit of time! Case in point: He has 2 starting DBs out last game with one of the replacements being a FCS level DB (Hall). This kid when he does get beat is getting beat on talent alone most of the time, not experience. With regard to tackling this comes also from a lack of talent and experience. The D is also not getting any help most times from the offense.
Yea I’ve been a big critic of Wink but I also don’t want to rush into getting him out. His biggest problem is how stubborn he is, always wants to be the smartest in the room but if he can drop that crap I think he’d be much better.
@jackpackage4278 It's absolutely 💯 correct. There s obviously a huge difference between him and minter, and it has more to do with how both relate to the players. In minter s interview, he said, " I always ask players for their input because they have to know that this is their defense".....and I scheme around that. Wink seems to come off as " ive been doing this for 40 years, i know what im doing just trust the process and don't t question it. Its evident in the players body language, theyve checked out. If the players dont want to play for you or they dont buy into what youre doing, it doesnt matter how good your scheme is.......especially if its complicated.
Why does everyone blame wink yet there were some bad calls here and there but you can’t expect the defense to perform and execute when they’re on the field for most of the game. The offense is the problem on this team not the defense. There are also a lot of injuries on the defense that is causing problems. The defense is also the side of the ball that has all new coaches.
because he does dumb shit. he sees people cooking us with screens and quick slants and sends pressure, he sees them convert big plays in cover 0, he sees them try to run the ball and puts mason graham and kenneth grant in 5 techniques. the defense is good, but of course it is they have 4 first rounders, jyaire hill is damn near a 90 pff grade in coverage, and we have 2 of the most physically gifted linebackers in the sport. its not nearly as good as it should be, and winks in game playcalling is the biggest issue
Okay that’s also execution from the players. Majority of the time they’re in position to make the tackle and they whiff that’s on the player not the coach. Also players are taught to back off whenever it’s a screen not run full speed at the QB. Again another time where the players aren’t executing how they’re taught 🙄 that’s simple football. When it feels too good to be true it probably is that’s what Defensive Linemen are taught I would know cause I was one. The players aren’t getting their hands up to bat down or deflect passes. Players are getting out of position. Not making tackles when they have the chance. And not staying disciplined that is not on Wink. You can only teach players so much but they have to go out and execute
finally someone who gets it!!!...if it wasn't for the defense we would get blown out in every game with the offense leading the country with 3 and outs...
@AidenB1010 I never wanna hear you say Wink is the problem EVER AGAIN. Kirk Campbell is the problem and always has been. We should’ve won that Indiana game but no. Offense couldn’t DO SHIT
@@JoshuaMollette Keon Sabb, too... traitor transferred to Bama. DBs are badly depleted compared to the last few seasons for sure. Wink will be fine if we can get that level of talent again.
To me a lot of the reasons why tackling is/ was an issue is because of the overall defensive philosophy. A lot of man/ matchup type coverage Especially in the run game puts guys in bad positions & difficult angles of pursuit especially in the back 7. If the D line is not gap sound and the back half is in man coverage its an adjustment on the fly.
The Michigan defense has not had the defensive turnovers, like they did in 2023. The passing offense has been ineffective with the passing game to wide receivers. Things have looked better with the two QB system. That may also benefit in the running game. The schedule has done Michigan no favors.
We also had Mike Sanristil, an interception master, rod moore who has been out all this year, and Will Johnson was healthy most of last year. Not really fair to compare our current secondary with those guys 😂. We got really lucky with no major injuries last year outside of Zinter against OSU, but even that Zinter injury actually made our O line better lol
I would bet that Indiana doesn't listen to music during practice. Michigan listens to music during practice. Indiana is focussed, Michigan isn't. Indiana is disciplined, Michigan isn't. Hmm...
Just from the eye test, the tackling is worse. They over pursue and aren’t as fast to the ball as last year. Open field tackling isn’t that great either. Keep in mind that most of this criticism is aimed at the defensive backfield.
The fact he thinks tackling is not an issue is reason enough for him to go. Such a drop off in tackling from last several years and its not because they are new guys. Defensive Captain is one of the worst tacklers. Culture does not look good. 😔

Tell me if I’m wrong but I don’t think anyone outside of Michigan fans admire what we were the past 3 years… they all think we were cheaters.
We really hit the portal hard with the secondary ( 4 guys) last signing day, and we still are bad back there!
Portal is so hit and miss

No. Recruiting is hit and miss. The portal prospects have college tape.

Michigan’s sos was similar to theirs last year, and we proved we were the number 1 team
