Hi, I have a question regarding copyrights. Do you know how are copyrights protected on different platforms like etsy, amazon merch, redbubble etc? I mean if I upload t-shirt with my own slogan (slogan invented by me) is copyright automatically applied to my slogan by platforms where I upload t-shirt or I have to take some steps to protect copyright to my slogan?

I tried e-commerce long ago before it started to become popular like today. From what I learned is that if you are not a go getter this business will not work. You have to use social media or any form to drive people to your business. This business or any business will fail if you don't put in the effort. Lazy people don't even try it. All the get rich quick stuff out there still requires hard work.

I wish I saw your video before I started to upload pictures on image stock pages like Shutterstock. The trap with Shutterstock is very similar to what you described - upload every day for a veeeery long time and then you will have a CHANCE to sell something (usually for a few cents or - wow! - bucks). Now I don't waste my time on stocks but was wondering about print-on-demand - I'm an amateur photographer and I was looking for some additional profit, I was also thinking about my own site and own shop and after watching your video I think I have my answer.
Thank you so much for such an honest video (and as such very different from others on this subject) - this kind of content is rare and very helpful - big thanks!

In the beginning, while waiting patiently for our POD business to succeed, getting that one sale a day, missing those goals isn't a failure, it's not yet a success. Your emphasis on taking small steps and making small goals is excellent.

Well 1st of all, I want to thank you a bunch, for this very informative video, I'm am learning as I go, but learning the hard way I guess, because I made over 600 designs, I started a storefront with Zazzle, well I started that store last year, I put in about 1/4 of my saved images to be printed onto t's, mugs, journals, tote bags,, iphones, you name it, well in a year's time, I sold one mug & still haven't seen that measly ($.93), a person has to make a certain amount, before getting any money, well i guess that I jumped the gun & worked for many hours designing for POD products, just to learn how very hard it is to actually make any money at all. So, then I started trying to learn more with videos, like yours, i am learning quite a bit, but I've also noticed that these Co's charge us designers, so many fees, that none of us will ever get anywhere, they don't realize that they'd be nowhere without us designers, just like musicians, actors & actresses would not be famous without their fans. It is just terrible how these Co's are ripping all of us off, now starting in early May Society-6 will be charging the designers for the customers shipping charges, Etsy also has numerous ridiculous fees & so does every other POD business among many other types of online storefronts. Now I'm stuck with lots of images that I have designed myself, not to mention all of the many hours it took me to do them all. So can you do a video on which companies if any, that newbies can start up with, that don't have so many crazy fees, I'm sure 1,000's of viewers on youtube would really appreciate this. Also i was wondering about a company you mentioned called Subliminator, i looked it up & can't locate anything on what their fees are, thanks.

My #1 goal right now is to just get everything setup the best I can. I just finished my Shopify home page and social medias. It took me weeks since I’m also working full time. But I might go back and change up my home page a little after seeing The Outdoors page. I really liked their about page. Now I gotta start designing and uploading. I would be so happy to even get one sale. But my #1 goal is the best quality I can give, and I mean in everything. The website design, the marketing, the design of my clothing, picking the best supplier, and even just keeping up on social media. I learned you have to be willing to do what others won’t. My only weakness is marketing. I’m a really shy person and don’t like getting in front of cameras. To me it’s like standing in front of an audience and giving a speech.

I was working with a friend to start a bussiness to sell crochet and embroidery art products, but recently I decided no to work anymore with her because of two things you mentioned here: she thinks Etsy is the only answer and also she's not being realistic about the business growth, she thinks she's going to sell thousand of dollars within a few months and that is not realistic. So thank you, 'cause you made me realize I made a good decision to start working by myself.

I have an anime niche, the main thing I had struggled with is creating the images that were able to sell without having to worry about copyrighted images and the time it takes to design everything. So I have mixed in handmade things along with my print on demand and it's interesting to see 2 months in I have some sales but the main thing selling is my handmade stuff. I do like that they are all ordering more than one thing from my shop though. I'm happy to have any sales especially 2 months in because my expectations coming in was I wouldn't have any upside until at least 6 months when the seo starts kicking in.

There is a difference between $$sales amounts and $$$ profit amounts. There seems to be an underground obscurity laberint that if someone is making that kind of money there is no proof, mostly they attract viewers with the hope they will subscribe and sell something on the side, it is totally dubious.

My shop has been running a little over a month and have six sales. Unfortunately those sales are from family and friends. I think I have too many random niches in my shop and that’s why I have not had any organic sales.

interesting.. this is different from what most other youtubers are saying... would be interesting to see a comparison between PODers with about the same amount of sales and ask them about how long it took for them, insights and mistakes etc to see if their paths have been very similar or very different.

Thank you for the additional reality check. Etsy is the drizzling sh#ts. In a year my store has made only 3 sales. The reality is that Etsy search boosts items that have high sales. Photos, SEO, title, etc don't even matter much in an Etsy search. You need sales to get sales. I'll likely close down my shop once I get my own site up. I'll definitely view more of Joe's videos for more useful tips.

Love the knowledge you have to share with myself and so many others. I have been going round and round and round in circles trying to figure out a business plan. I am going to try working on my Shopify like you said and utilize social media. I see so many people doing the SAME thing. I want to set myself apart. Just struggling to figure out how. I also do what you said which is I have unrealistic expectations. I just joined your FB group. Hoping to learn there as well. Thank you again. Keep doing you! :)

    Awesome video.
So, if I want to sell T-shirts in 4 different niches, will it be better to have 4 websites; one for each niche, or a single website with 4 categories of items; one for each niche?

Note on copy rights of cartoon images. You can not take a digital image of a famous character and just tweek it and resell it. BUT the fine line is this: AS legal precedence set by Andy Warhol , pop artist, set in the 1960's, If you use a copywriten image like Elvis or Mickey Mouse and you create a physical artwork, an original, like a painting, or hand made collage, or drawing on paper, and that work of art has "substantial Value" in it's own right, it makes a social criticism, or points to a comment on society, etc. If you create a NEW WORK of art that has it's own intellectual value, Then you can use famous images. Just like Warhol did with Marylin Monroe etc. His mass production art prints were physical, and commented on societies obsessions with fame and has consumption, and walked a line between copy and original by tweaking each image so it was a tiny bit different. His work was full of intellectual value that made his images a NEW WORK of art.

    Hey Joe Robert!
A question about mentality. I mean, living in one country, you place a store in another country without knowing their mentality. It can be assumed that beginners make many mistakes for this reason, trying to attract as many customers as possible to their store.
What do you think about it? Can you make a video on this topic, share your thoughts?
    your subscriber.

Why is it not for clothing lines though? If you are just starting you don't have the money or time to find the right printer, the right products, spend thousands in trial and error, buy samples, and then have to take care of all the shipping, client service. Plus you'll still spend on ads, and if nobody knows your brand, you'll be left with tons of unsold merch lying around in your house. I totally agree that if you don't have a strong brand image or you don't already have a big following on social media, it will make no sense for people to buy your stuff, but imagine if this same person had gotten their shirts printed and then tried to sell them it would habe been even worse 😅

It's funny how many of these boil down to the age old mantras:
"If you build it, they will come" being the shittiest mantra ever, and
"If you want the same results as everyone else, do exactly what everyone else is doing."
They seem so condescendingly simple at first glance, but how many actually take them to heart?

I just stumbled upon this video I was watching a bunch of POD videos from one POD TH-cam creator then I started watching other creators with the same type of info. I started realizing that all these guys are creating the same similar like videos giving the same info its almost like they're all reading off the same script except they're all individually promoting different companies and all of them seem to refer to ETSY for the "easiest" it doesn't take a lot of thinking to catch that drift it makes sense actually. There's an algorithm for aspiring entrepreneur and all these guys are getting paid to promote this hustle a hustle on the aspiring hustler. this video kinda proved my speculations and I almost fell into the Etsy trap. it all feels like a trap.
