6:14 a bartender would make the best mayor. you dont think all of good springs goes to the bar on saturday nights to talk and hang out? plus their all drunk so trudy knows theyre wants and needs and opinions. also for sloan, its a mining town, theres not much to expect, its a few cheap shitshacks built by the NCR so the miners didnt have to sleep outside. you could throw in the fact that living in sloan would mean you work at a quarry for your job, but since its shut down due to deathclaws, they arent getting paid for their work, which makes this place even more unliveable. snuffles makes it liveable though. (sorry if i came off as rude)
I think I made that point about Sloan, but all good. Regarding Trudy, it's a fair point but I don't think the person running the place should also be a business owner in town. That has curruption written all over it.
@@nvRanger its a small enough town where everyones friends, its more of a community than a town, and its like one of those places that traders stop, shop, drink and sleep. i have no lore evidence other than common sense, vipers shouldnt be much of a problem as most merchants are well armed and well geared. powder gangers wouldnt be too difficult, theyre neutral but most people do the goodsprings quest and get bad rep.
They’re neutral to the Courier, true. But they have sacked caravans and they do lead an assault on Goodsprings. If you have what they want, they’re basically raiders.
One point of consideration for Jacobstown - snow. Game begins in Oct and there's already snow on the ground. Later in the season there's a real risk of getting snowed in, and if you think the Nightkin are struggling to hold it together now, imagine what happens when a few of them catch cabin fever.
Novac has always been my go to, there is a repair and ammo bench nearby and a vendor to sell your crap and youre very close to the Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel Bunker so you can lug all the gold bars there easily after Dead Money
Dude so much potential with this topic, id love to see this for vegas, freeside, west side, outer vegas, and various abandoned places. Like ranches, shacks sheds, prospectors camps, maybe even unconventional locations that don’t immediately appear as shelter. Like jean skydiving or the numerous caves in nevada.
hmmm, maybe some artistic inspiration there. I often think places like Jacobstown and Black Mountain make NV feel a little more Fantasy than most other Fallout games. You have have different races occupying different areas of the map. Instead of Dwarves in the MT's, it's mutants.
@@nvRangerI find that tracks a lot closer to the original fallout games' world building, where say the ghouls have an entire city to themselves. The wasteland is not a very accepting place to those who are different
@@RainytheNB Yea they were definitely eestablishing something similar there. Fallout 3 also has the museum "underworld" for ghouls. Something about New Vegas using specific Geography to tie different groups to makes it unique in this regard tho. Mutants are largely in Mountains (like dwarves), Ghouls are trying to escape to a new world and are almost immortal (like elves), and humans are at war with eachother. Very LOTR/Witcher
A rare win for my recommendations, this is the type of content I love. While I might not necessarily agree with all of your points, they were well explained, and you were well spoken. I almost want a similar video now about the potential of these settlements, and others depending on who takes Vegas. Either way, subscriber gained
Jacobstown is like the Switzerland of New vegas. Small but very well defended for its size making it an unappealing place to try to conquer, and snowy mountains.
Good point, I think the NCR would lose a lot of soldiers trying to take it. Especially if the nightkin stick around. Not a good move if they lose a ton of ppl in both battles of Hoover dam as well.
Lived LV for 12 years. The summers are brutal. You won't really survive with access to clean water and lots of it. The nice thing about Mt Charleston aka Jacobstown is that its so much cooler in the summer. In the winter is can get real cold and windy, though. Anyways yeah its the only S tier place to live in New Vegas. Something else of note. The ground in the valley is like concrete. You cant just grab a shovel and go to town. No, you better have a pickaxe or better yet a jackhammer. Growing food is going to be a major challenge.
Great to get a locals perspective. ALso that's a good point with the farming, the land certainly doesn't seem very forgiving. That's what I was trying to get at around the 188 when talking about farming. Realistically, I think most people, including myself, would die long before figuring out how to grow crops in such an already naturally desolate region.
I think my ideal option would be to try to convince Marcus to make me an accountant or logistic manager. It’s something that a human would be more proficient at than a super mutant or ghoul along with being kept out of harms way & not requiring much physical labor. Even if the NCR invades I feel like they would be prone spare a noncombatant human.
That's a great plan and I think it would work out. I also thought the same about the NCR sparing you. You could even hide in a closet and say the mutants were getting ready to eat you if things go south 😂
Camp guardian has massive potential for a settlement. With the knowledge you gain from exploring it, you could close off the parts of the cave infested with lake lurks and use the peak as a natural barrier to other threats.
I stopped 10 seconds in to say the best place to live in new vegas is the dumpster behind the bar in goodsprings. There’s even a mattress in the abandoned trailer around the corner
Novac is my dream town. It’s so beautiful, sat on a highway so it has good trade, good people, real peaceful, realistic for a wasteland. The Fallout 2 OST Dream Town fits Novac like a glove. ❤
Third option secret for modded playthrough: Make your base and settlement (these are seperate, your base is like your village you use it for resource gathering, the settlement is different, it is more of combat defend type thing) East of Hoover Dam, using Leigon Expansion add 40% of the game map back to New Vegas and build up there
Great analysis! Charletown is also my favorite town, espeacaiily in a modded gameplaythrough with a lot of revamps or overhauls. One settlement that seem to be left out is the mojave outpost.
Appreciated! I left out the Mojave Outpost intentionally as it’s more of a military/government installation. I don’t think the NCR would let you post up or move in. We’ll save it for another faction specific video.
The only 2 things I think you may have missed: Goodsprings: some of the towns people need convincing to help in defeating the powder gangers. I think this is aread flag for a lack of stong comunity. You have to convince Chet, Doc M, and Easy Pete to share their suplies to help fight off murderous ex-convicts. They must really not care about the lives of their neighbors. It's probably caused by a lack of leadership to bring the town together. Goodsprings cant go above B for this reason IMO. Jacobs town: I think being a human is advantageous, it lends more legitimacy to what Marcus is trying to acheive with his comunity for all, if theres more humans in town.
I definitely disagree with Nipton in F, since it fell from the inside (like others mentioned) -- but it would definitely be a struggle. No shot you could make it very livable on your own. No telling if Boxcar would get you killed if he survives as well. I think Primm is actually more workable rhan you might think -- those convicts there are a separate entity from the NCRCF crew, as we know from ingame dialogue. Thus, they arent getting any resupply, and are less familiar with the town than the locals. It would basically be a siege for a while, waiting them out and shooting them whenever a convict pokes his head out a door or window, but they could be slowly worn down.
I like Novac, mostly because that is where I can get a motel room to store all of my stuff. But Goodsprings should be a calm place to live. Yeah, there are Cazadores up north, but you just don't go there and have no trouble. The place has housing, the place has a doctor (who can even cure shots to the head), there is trading. There is even safety, Easy Pete. There is community, there is work. They have water and food. Growth is also an option. Even their leadership follows something many small communities do. No elected mayor, but a town council. Whenever something important is happening, the people come together and decide as a group. Nipton is probably the biggest growth potential, considering it has a population of 1, and that guy has broken legs. Besides that, there is a group of Legion soldiers on first visit, but they move out and are quickly replaced with raiders. It was a properly populated settlement just days before. So the danger and population pretty much changed twice within a week. It wouldn't be a great place to join a community, but it would be a nice place to move a community into. Basically a location to clean out and take over, having the cleanup crew becoming the new militia. Jacobstown is quite welcoming to everyone, as long as you don't cause trouble. But that should be quite obvious everywhere. Sloan is indeed quite terrible. It is quite literally a work camp for the quarry nearby. Just a couple barracks, with no food or water supply, no entertainment, no medical services. Now if we're talking about "after the courier did their stuff and moved on", then Primm becomes safe and the I-15 is open again. And I need to know which animation mods you use, those reloads and run cycles are sweet.
The cazadores aren't the only predator you would have to worry about though. The Powder Gangers are absolutely going to be a problem that you can't ignore.
Yo bro, this is such a banger content. Would you mind doing this type of video for towns and cities in not just other Fallout games, but also in Elder Scrolls games as well?
Absolutely, love me some Skyrim. i would have to familiarize myself with Oblivion and Morrowind more as I haven't played them nearly as much. Appreciate the suggestion
Honestly, probably novac or goodsprings would be the best. Westside is actually doing mostly okay. Freeside is rampant with muggers. Everything else is lawless or destroyed without courier intervention. Id pick novac.
@@nvRanger i think your argument for jacobstown is good except for its isolation. we see that as a huge issue for other groups in vegas. novac has better growth opportunity.
The isolation is a bit of a pro and a con. It's much more defendable, they have more space for growth, and they are less impacted by the volatile nature of the power struggle in the region. On the other hand, its harder for traders and new comers to get to them and it's more difficult to interact with other friendly groups in the wastes. More dangerous wildlife up that way too, which could be food, but could kill.
When it comes to ranching I think I could figure out how to breed mantises for there meat. Not easy but that can be said about surviving the setting in general.
Yea this is a difficult situation, so it’s good to get creative. Jacobstown, Goodsprings, and Novac are good relative to the rest, but they’re F tier compared to modern living in first world countries.
u could argue sloan taking everything they have and setting up at goodsprings would make use of those houses and increase security, productivity with pure manpower until the route is deathclaw free.
Nelson is a Legion base by the time of New Vegas and Bonnie Springs is a Viper base. Grub & 188 are definitely questionable but I don't see any reason they can't expand. They're both setup to profit from the recent I-15 closing, so they could certainly grow into more traditional towns
The abandoned brotherhood bunker was my favorite place to pretend to set up shop and display my goodies but once I tried to decorate all around the gun runners shop since I spent so much time showing up there but a glitch sent my hours of meticulously stacked stuff halfway into the ground and I quit the practice
I know it kind of defies fitting into any one neat category, but I'm surprised you didn't consider Nellis Air Force Base since it really is more of a settlement than a military installation...and it would certainly rate an S given its safety and self-sufficiency.
I don't disagree BUT I don't think its an option given the preface because they are going to try to kill you before you ever get close. Beyond that, they make the Courier do all sorts of things before becoming one of them. I think the vast majority of people would die trying to reach Nellis or trying to become accepted. We'll cover them in a faction related video. You're right though, they got a good thing going on.
I'm surprised that you didn't include Red Rock Canyon, Nellis Air Force Base or Bitter Springs. Some might not be "towns" in the usual sense, but so aren't the trading posts as well.
Saving those for a similar video involving factions. For example, if you’re plopped in the Mojave wastes and try and get to Nellis, they will blow you up.
14:58 me about to test out my new weapons there lol with nipton i have mod that allows me to rebuild it so once its done i dont think it would be as bad but overall i do agree with your list that jacobstown is the cream of the crop along with good springs and novac

I think the grub n' gulp was ranked a little too high in safety, in most of my games neither of the merchants live long after the courier angers the legion. There's always a hit squad near the grub n' gulp and I think that shows how easily the legion sack the place if there was something they wanted there, like an enemy to the legion.
That's a fair point however this video supposes the Courier doesn't exist/dies in Goddsprings. So, they are never there to anger the Legion and attract them towards the Grub n' Gulp.
NVR (discord download only) and desert natural weathers, also NASA stars. Check my most recent mod video, there’s a mod list at the bottom of the description w links.
Red rock canyon for me. Community, leadership, drugs, and violence. Yurts probably aren't the most comfortable, but I'll make do. Actually, if we're assuming that they'll join Caesar's Legion, that's probably a terrible idea, nevermind.
I'm schizophrenic Doc Henry might appreciate being able to cross reference his research with me, also I'm not great at medicine but I can help, at the least reducing the workload. Also, Jacobs Town would be most accepting of me being disabled. Yeah, this place would be perfect.
I think it’s important to remember that the medical skills of the doctor in Novac, Ada Strauss, do not inspire confidence. Some things she says are straight up medical malpractice. While I would definitely utilize her services in a pinch, I don’t trust her outside of as a last resort.
She doesn’t say much for me, I checked her dialogue and she seems like a character who got content cut from her given the short development time. What are you referring to specifically, I’m curious.
@ Some of her lines are pretty innocuous, but I’d say most show that she’s not the best care provider. She says the following when you pay her for treatment. “That's not so bad. I'll have you looking good as new. I mean, what are the chances of me botching another routine procedure in the same day?” and “All right, I'll just get my scalpel here, and... ugh. Did I leave that sitting outside? Well, you know what? Free tetanus shot!” She says the following after you say you’re short on caps for treatment “Darn it! That money was going to help pay to get me some medical training.” If you ask her to not treat you, she says “Sometimes ignoring something is the best medicine” If you tell her you’re addicted to chems she says “Hey, pipe down. We can't talk about that here, out in the open.” and “Oh, you mean you want a cure. Oh.” Implying she’s providing narcotics to people who are addicted. There’s a few more lines that are suspect, but I think you get the point. Also, I got these from the fallout independent wiki, which I’m pretty sure has every line of dialogue for every character in the game. Obviously you have to make some sacrifices in the wasteland, and I don't really blame her for selling chems. You have to make a living somehow (and at least she's not Dixon), but there are other doctors who are actually competent elsewhere in the wasteland. Though, she's never actually done anything that lead to a bad patient outcome, in my experience.
It probably wouldn't be that bad to survive in the Mojave Wasteland, its not even entirely a wasteland as of NV. Hunt geckos for food, grow a nice little garden. Set up to do as I please.
I think the vast majority of us would be dead in a month to be honest. 😅 Heat kills, dehydration kills, starving, killed by raiders or wild life and so on It’s no DC wasteland though

I like the video but I think you are selling Novac short because of it's perceived water shortage. The water issue in Novac can be solved with prickly pear fruit, which grows in sizable numbers in and around town. We could also make a still converting dirty water from the tower into clean purified water with RadAway, surgical tubing, glass pitchers and pressure cookers. We have those items in abundance in Novac or could easily trade for. The great thing about this new purified water business is that we could eventually make enough money to hire mercs or kit out unemployed miners from Sloan to retake the Repconn launch site to save the town's salvage industry. I also would rather take my chances with Jeanie May instead of Keene and the Nightkin in Jacobstown. Since I am not a beautiful woman I think the odds of Jeannie May selling me to the Legion are low, while Keene would want me as lunch no matter what I look like.
There are potential solutions to all of the locations issues, but I don't think that's selling it short. Its selling it as is, which is a town without clean water, currently. Novac relies on trade which can be volatile. For example, what if the Powder Gangers and the Deathclaws on the I-15 now are pushed out by the NCR but not wiped out, and they end up on the 95 for a while. Then the radaway and water from trading is suddenly gone. This is why Jacobstown is S, they don't rely on outsiders, they are self-sufficient. Keene is mean but controlled for now, dehydration and heat is a miserable death.
@@nvRangerThe water isn't traded for though, I make it with my still or my cactus fruit. I was thinking of where I could find the most economic opportunities while being safe. I agree that Jacobstown is a top tier place but what happens if the NCR contracted mercs start killing the wild herds of Bighorners in those mountains to starve the residents of Jacobstown? I was surprised that wasn't the first thing the NCR tried in order to ruin the settlement.
fair enough, but I'm not sure there is enough water coming from the naturally growing cactus fruit to provide for the whole town. I'll be honest, I know nothing about water stills so I cannot refute that point. Novac in my mind is the number 2, I meant to mention the first in each tier is higher ranked than the second. That's why Goodsprings is to the right of Novac on the final list.
@@nvRangerThe cactus fruit water supplements what we can purify in the water tower and the ground water. If you go back in the game you will notice in the crafting menu you can construct a still to mass purify all the dirty water you find.

Awesome vid, hope this blows up on the algorithm! I love this topic niche, it reminds me of Any Austin, definitely worth extrapolating, e.g "best farms in new Vegas" "following the roads in NV" "strongest military base in NV" etc etc
Great ideas, don’t be surprised if I use those. AnyAustin is the man, been awesome seeing his channel blow up recently.
Great point, we don't get much indication with seasonal changes but one could imagine it gets a bit nuclear wintery up there.
Love the ideas, definitely looking towards those boroughs of Vegas next, then we can expect the whole dang thing bit by bit. Thanks for the feedback!
this is the kinda content i need in my
life
Love to read that 🙏
Didnt realise until now how much the area surrounding Jacobstown looks like the Jerall mountains around Bruma
hmmm, maybe some artistic inspiration there. I often think places like Jacobstown and Black Mountain make NV feel a little more Fantasy than most other Fallout games. You have have different races occupying different areas of the map. Instead of Dwarves in the MT's, it's mutants.
That area looks so weird and doesn’t feel like a real mountain
Good Springs is the best because I can go there in real life and go ti the saloon filled with Fallout Gear
hopefully that gear saves you from a Powder Ganger invasion when Chet turns you down for gear
This is the kind of Fallout Content I live for, commenting so you may be blessed by the algorithm Gods
🙏 thank you
@ But now do the same concept with the Vegas suburbs👀
For sure, think that one is next
business idea:sell credit card from old world and tell people that they are caps in a card form
I respect the hustle, might be dangerous to do to folk of the wasteland though. Maybe only target NCR tourists headed to Vegas
Video like this are why I randomly start a new vegas run a few times a year
Love it, we gotta keep this game alive.
Im not gonna deny it, i mostly watched this video to check your mods, your Fallout new vegas looks amazing, pokemon emerald music is great too.
A viewer of culture, all good. There's a (not fully up-to-date) mod list in the description of my recent mod videos w/ links if you're interested.
Goodsprings. I got a good feeling about that tweaked that mysterious robot pulled out of the dirt
Camp guardian has massive potential for a settlement. With the knowledge you gain from exploring it, you could close off the parts of the cave infested with lake lurks and use the peak as a natural barrier to other threats.
I like the idea. I've thought of doing a video that covers locations with potential for becoming towns/settlements
That assumes you would survive the exploration. Do you think you would have better odds than NCR soldiers?
@@EarlMcManus2005 yea them lurks might getchya. Probably the most likely scenario, especially if you're not armed
@EarlMcManus2005 bold of you to assume I that wouldn’t be sneakier than a group of soldiers with guns and explosives.
@@16dwreckWhy would being armed hinder their exploration?
The first time I flew into Las Vegas, I took a picture from my airplane of the gravel pit where I am *certain* there are dozens of deathclaws.
maybe they're contained there for the new Zoo!
26:11 I died when the girl walked off side eyeing Samuel after watching him drinking 😂
random NPC behavior needs to be studied, that woman is alive and trapped in new vegas.
I stopped 10 seconds in to say the best place to live in new vegas is the dumpster behind the bar in goodsprings. There’s even a mattress in the abandoned trailer around the corner
😅I’ll try to remember not to throw my empty bottles in there for ya
Would snow be irradiated or clean drinking water?
@@RemyMac great question, i'd imagine irradiated/dirty
Novac is my dream town. It’s so beautiful, sat on a highway so it has good trade, good people, real peaceful, realistic for a wasteland.
The Fallout 2 OST Dream Town fits Novac like a glove. ❤
It’s a really cool place, different vibe than the other desert towns too. Almost a mix of Fallout 3 and New Vegas
The only 2 things I think you may have missed:
Goodsprings: some of the towns people need convincing to help in defeating the powder gangers.
This is a neat video
glad you think so, thanks
@@nvRanger whens the next one coming out? I'm interested to hear how Westside ranks.
This one took a a lot of work and time but if it performs well, boroughs of New Vegas ranked is next and hopefully in a week or so👍
@nvRanger that's faster than I thought, you earned a subscribe amigo.
Appreciated
Goated keep this up king
🙏
Honestly, probably novac or goodsprings would be the best. Westside is actually doing mostly okay. Freeside is rampant with muggers. Everything else is lawless or destroyed without courier intervention.
Id pick novac.
Respectable choice, I like Novac settlers chances
@@nvRanger i think your argument for jacobstown is good except for its isolation. we see that as a huge issue for other groups in vegas. novac has better growth opportunity.
The isolation is a bit of a pro and a con. It's much more defendable, they have more space for growth, and they are less impacted by the volatile nature of the power struggle in the region. On the other hand, its harder for traders and new comers to get to them and it's more difficult to interact with other friendly groups in the wastes. More dangerous wildlife up that way too, which could be food, but could kill.
Good vid
Thank you
When it comes to ranching I think I could figure out how to breed mantises for there meat.
Yea I think that would be in their best interest, staying there seems like a bad idea for now
I wouldn't describe the 188 or Grub n Gulp as towns, however there are 2 towns missing, Nelson and Bonnie Springs
Nelson is a Legion base by the time of New Vegas and Bonnie Springs is a Viper base.
Grub & 188 are definitely questionable but I don't see any reason they can't expand. They're both setup to profit from the recent I-15 closing, so they could certainly grow into more traditional towns
The abandoned brotherhood bunker was my favorite place to pretend to set up shop and display my goodies but once I tried to decorate all around the gun runners shop since I spent so much time showing up there but a glitch sent my hours of meticulously stacked stuff halfway into the ground and I quit the practice
yea it would be nice if new vegas had a settlement building type system for those scenarios. Tons of places could use personal custimization
Novac for unhinged sunset chats with nobark.
No better way to pass the time
I know it kind of defies fitting into any one neat category, but I'm surprised you didn't consider Nellis Air Force Base since it really is more of a settlement than a military installation...and it would certainly rate an S given its safety and self-sufficiency.
What about Utabitha? Hear the super mutants there are friendly.
As a surveyor not even making minimum wage, imma let you tell me how that one is.
@nvRanger who needs minimum wage when you're under unpaid labour to fix toasters for super mutants.
i think the mutants might put me in a toaster tbh
I'm surprised that you didn't include Red Rock Canyon, Nellis Air Force Base or Bitter Springs. Some might not be "towns" in the usual sense, but so aren't the trading posts as well.
Saving those for a similar video involving factions. For example, if you’re plopped in the Mojave wastes and try and get to Nellis, they will blow you up.

but overall i do agree with your list that jacobstown is the cream of the crop along with good springs and novac
I like the idea of rebuilding these places. Honestly wouldn't mind a new vegas remake in fallout 4's engine that allows settlement building in some of these locations after you beat the game.

Love his stuff but I think he's doing his own thing. I'm not on his radar anyway.

@nvRanger Hey what can I say, I love a bargain 😅👍
Life hack
Dig a hole and you can survive in there for the rest of your (short) lives
Free tetanus shot!”
She says the following after you say you’re short on caps for treatment “Darn it! That money was going to help pay to get me some medical training.”
If you ask her to not treat you, she says “Sometimes ignoring something is the best medicine”
If you tell her you’re addicted to chems she says “Hey, pipe down.
Hidden valley and Nellis?
Hidden valley is Bos only. Nellis is kind of running out of rockets and no love if you don't like someone there. Most wastelanders are savages.
Fabio said it for me. We’ll cover those in a faction type video. I think the BoS never lets you in and the Boomers blow you to bits

Goodsprings, no joke
Goodsprings is the obvious answer
I don't think so, Novac and Jacobstown are arguably safer and have more potential. Goodsprings is on a dead road surrounded by a large gang
