      @ammonitida ...why? if that's the case, tell me how many VCS cart silicon do you know are dead? I know estimates say that silicon chips have an age before decay - corrosion of metals for one is an issue - but lifetime of many of these products can be lengthened dramatically with careful storage conditions.

    This is a neat little super gun, I really like the compact size of it and it seems to put out a nice image from what I can see in the video. This is something I need to invest in, so that I can troubleshoot and test PCB boards. Just added it to my wish list.

  • @PabstOban
    @PabstOban 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I know what a lot of people watching this are thinking (especially after adding up the cost of all this hardware)... "OR! you can just play it on a Pi".
    ..and you'd be right, you can do all this on a Pi for a fraction of the cost.
    This is a project more for people looking for an "excellent-perfect" experience and not just a "good" experience. Not everyone finds the value in that at the extra cost which is a perfectly reasonable stance to take.
    This project is more for people that want to use actual hardware, they are willing to invest more money for that "Excellent" experience and especially for anyone looking to build a custom MVS cabinet. If you are someone who's going to go through the trouble of building a cabinet that has an Arcade Grade CRT... this is one of the ways you can go... and it's not cheap but it's going to be freaking awesome when you do.
    As the saying goes... "Cheap isn't good, Good isn't Cheap". This is definitely an enthusiasts passion project.
    Hopefully the MiSTer Jamma board becomes available to the public soon, and then people will be able to build cabinets with all of the Neo Geo capability, as well as everything else!

      It would be perfect for MK boards as long as it provides -5v to the PCB. The Horizontal adjustment will help since the sync rate is 53hz which sometimes doesn't center well on certain TVs/Monitors.

    It sounds good, but I find it a big handicap.
    If I'm not mistaken, when using only one db15 interconnection it is impossible to respect the pinning of the two controls, so the board will have to serialize or polling, adding lag, however little it is. Am I wrong?
    The nice thing about playing in original mvs, apart from doing it in crt, is not having any inpulag at all...

    I looking for somewhere or someone who could make a plexi on specific cut (as a arcade pannel) with laser engraving.
    If you know some places.
    Same to make protective cases to pcb jamma with engraved name on it.
    I still use few real pcb too,it's a nostalgic fetishist feeling.
    But more than 3/4 of my games are just roms on pc,raspberry,android now.
    It's more easy to play directly hyperspin on blast city with friends,without open the arcade,change the pcb,kick harness and all.
    Also,it's easier to check any 'best of mame' video and download directly any forgotten treasure iso/roms.
    I discovered much more arcade games after 2000s than during the 90s and I have more pleasure with mame than many recent ps4 games.

    The question is...how much is the cost for the total project? I know you have some of the parts listed here but it seems like you're waiting for more. So here's the thing bother my fiancee and I are huge gamers (I hit the lottery with her). She's is into it just as much as I am...depending on the game sometimes more. At current we're building a full sized home arcade with full stand up coin-op cabs and as you know they're not cheap. Maybe I build a few of these and slap them into a bunch of cabs...arcade complete. I'm also looking at getting at least one Retrocade for more polygonal stuff. What do you think man?

    Why isn't there a Supergun that just has HDMI out? I mean, why mess with sega cables and adaptors and upscale converters... just put it all on the board and output HDMI with auto mixed in.

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well my thought is, is if they did incorporate HDMI it would be akin to a cheap rgb to hdmi scaler and wouldn't provide great results, would have more latency than what most find acceptable. I wouldn't buy a Chinese made Supergun with HDMI out because I know how they'd do it. If it was done by a reputable modder, board designer then I'd have more faith in it, but for someone to do it well it would probably have a significantly higher cost.

    • @Mike-B-Jackson
      @Mike-B-Jackson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Madlittlepixel fair enough. What would you say is the best (least lag) board to convert this signal to HDMI then?

    • @PabstOban
      @PabstOban 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's expensive... thats probably the simplest explanation. To add this, they would have to build in an upscaller or a line doubler, and they would have to design that... it would also put the equipment into a price range even higher than it already is.
      I would recommend something like a RetroTink2x Pro (or 5x if you can wait for it), a FrameMeister or an OSSC Pro to do this conversion from Analogue to Digital to achieve your goal to get to HDMI without any frames loss (input lag).

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mike-B-Jackson I personally like the RAD2x, but I'm unsure if they are still available and they do cost like $60ish when they are. That doesn't require extra power, just an hdmi cable plugged into it. You could also do the Retrotink 2X with component cables, either just male to male component plugged into this box then into the Tink or HD retrovision genesis cables into the MD2 slot then into the Tink. That option you are looking at between $130-200 for what's needed just for the cable and tink 2x. I know the cheaper Genesis model 2 hdmi cables will work, like from Hyperkin, Pound, Level hike, those are like $30 or so, but from everything I've heard they vary in how things look and can have pretty bad latency introduced. Some aren't bothered by it, but if that was an option someone wanted to go with I'd research which provides the best results. Some like those cables as a cheaper starting point until they get more higher end stuff.
