I actually live 4 miles from Detroit and my daughter almost got into Cranbrook. She got a scholarship, but I couldn't pay for the rest of the tuition. Cranbrook is really elite and has a boarding school as well as day students.

The actor that played papa doc said in an interview that between takes Em went to his trailer and googled Anthony Mackey....then on the last take Em freestyled everything he read about Mackey and that's why he looked so shocked... cause Em roasted the actor on what was in his official bio!!! 😂

Pretty much, Em asked Anthony to “change the script a little bit.” Fast forward to the battle, and Em goes hard on him. Papa Doc’s reaction in the film was Anthony’s raw reaction via set.
Some of the info used in Em’s rap were indeed true info about Anthony Mackie. He then asked the producers to have Papa Doc say something afterwards, but everyone said no. Lmao

I didn't watch 8 Mile until 2003 when it came out on DVD. Me and my cousin in law borrowed the movie from my neighbor, he told us y'all are gonna love those last battles.
8 Mile is one of those movies i wish i could've watched in a theater on a Friday or Saturday night when it came out.
Cause i know all the hood people were hype during the last three battles and made the movie even better.
For example, the film 'You Got Served' is an alright movie when you watch it on TV.
But i watched the film in a theater when it first came out and the hood had the whole theater packed and some people had to sit on the floor. The people in there had the movie hyped the whole time and it literally was one of the best nights of my life.
Everyone was just so into the movie, there was nobody talking about other things going on or people talking on their cell phone.
And of course you know all the girls was into B2K crushing on Omarion the most and they got upset when he kissed the girl in that film lmao.

Yo fist time I watched this movie I was 10 and I watched it in this shitty theater that played movies like 6 months after it came out and it as a two for one special, this was the second movie that played, I remember the sex scenes my aunt would say close your eyes but I peaked lol... The battles blew my mind and the people in the theater were so hyped up, I instantly became a Stan... So glad I got to see this in theater

What most young people dont realize about Em, yeah he writes his own battle raps, but he has the ability to rap off the top of his head and flip the words you just said, then grab written bars from his head to fit it in his raps on the spot.
Em can go from written to the top of his head at any time he wants. That's what makes him great. I'm not saying these battles were not written, I'm saying that's what he does in a real battle.
@Master Carbuncle exactly. I do see some amateur battle rappers on the streets and in videos try to battle rap, but nothing they rap about is directly about the person they are battling. And nothing they said includes what his opponent just said.
So you can tell how people rap, if they have that level of skill to switch between the two on the spot.
But I like to watch battles that have people like that battling. Taking what each other is saying and flipping it in the spot. That does take some real skill. But there are battles where people dont do that, and still have some crazy disrespectful bars. Lol.

For me it started a very long time ago. Before Cassidy was even signed or became famous. He was crazy when it came to punchline bars back then.
Then the whole rap DVD era. I was a fan of meek mill way before he got signed too. He had the entire philly on fire with his Mixtapes.
But these days I don't like battle rap. Well, it's not that I dont like battle rap, I just think they need to figure out a better way to battle rap. The thing I hate when I watch a battle a rap today, is when the audience interrupt the artist after every punchline. They get so loud the artist needs to stop before they can continue with thier rhyme scheme.
Some rhyme schemes have like 4 or 5 bars, or more, with multiple punchlines. And it's the flow, energy, and momentum that really brings out the scheme. But if the artist have to stop with each punchline, while he's in the middle of his scheme, it ruins the flow, energy, and momentum.
That's why I dont watch battle raps anymore. The audience ruins it for me. But I love the bars and the complex schemes the artists come up with.

The best thing about 8 mile, the movie, is that it was a fictionalized representation of what Marshall Mathers’ actually went though. But, more importantly, after he won? He just went back to work. The point was that this was something he went through, he is a real person.
