    Over a year ago I set out to build the Ultimate 4wd remote Super Tourer and choose a Toyota Land Cruiser 105 as my foundation. I started with a 2000 Landcruiser 105 petrol which is the 100 series with solid front and rear axle. It had a 4-speed automatic gearbox and the six-cylinder petrol engine but within two months I also purchased a Landcruiser 100 series 1/2 cut with a 1HD-FTE engine and an A750 5-speed auto gearbox and had Jason from total care combine the engine and gearbox of the Landcruiser 100 Series with the rest of the Toyota Land Cruiser 105 series to create the ultimate super tourer. Over the past year, I have transformed the vehicle to probably one of the best build Landcruiser tourers in Australia. Follow me and check out what all went into the 4wd super tourer build in this walkthrough video.

    Finally, the Walk Through video of my Toyota Landcruiser 105 with 1HDFTE and 5 Speed Auto conversion and 4.2t GVM upgrade is out. I spend over a year building the (for me) perfect Super Tourer and learned quite a few things along the way. What do you reckon have I missed something? Please let me know in the comment section.

      Hi. Thanks for the update, long overdue. When I got my pioneer platform I picked 1 size smaller and the new backbone mount system. It gives 30% more more load rating and 100% less wind noise than the big one. Still looks reasonable too. They also now do an air deflector, about time! You haven't done a ladder to get up top?

      I think you got it down pat to what you need and what works for you old mate.. as you know we keep changing little things along the way it never ends lol myself just camping set up from truck little camp add on ons to make it all that more simple and fun 😎😎 major mods just stay there and repeat what works ..

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      na mate use spare wheel to get up and down, need to look in wind deflector just don't want to pay $180 for something which should have worked in the first place and may or may not fix it but probably will end up that way.

      Could you not have purchased a Series 100 with the 1HDFTE engine and changed the front axle that is found in a Series 105?

    This is the third time I’ve watched this from start to finish. I recently got my hands on a 1HD-FT converted 105, after a love affair with my thirsty 105 Petty. I can’t wait to do some hard yards in her, and this is the definitive video for upgrades. Thank you.

Even when I put the stedi LEDs in mine I wasn't happy, they I decided to adjust them to see what happened and well. Holy smokes. Nothing I pass on the highway puts out light like me now! Brilliant research and set up. Looks like a quality build, and capable.
    Your future Canning trip will be a big test and proud ‘brag’ point when you make it through. My experience personally and from assisting others through the CSR and surrounds has taught me.
    Failure points...
    Long range fuel tanks.
    Any electrical work other than standard.
    Suspension geometry diverting from standard.
    Any weight above what the manufacturers originally accounted for.
    Any speeds above what a standard vehicle would achieve.
    The one biggest failure commonality is weight. If your factory gvm is XYZZ.... stay under it. A piece of paper ‘saying it can’.....unfortunately CSR can’t read.
    Enjoy all your videos and look forward to you proving to yourself just how awesome your ‘super tourer’ is 👍

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep, I agree though I think the double Simpson Crossing this year with 9 days without tracks was a pretty good test, I doubt that anything on the Canning will match that but 9 days is different then 1800ks and it was with a different suspension set up. We will see it will be the ultimate test I guess but to be honest, I'm not too worried .... the Cruiser will have a round of dieting before the trip and I will try to keep my weight well below my 4.2t GVM that is for sure

    Hello Stefan, I really enjoyed watching this review. It s so different from some of the self-involved show-offish reviews of some of the other "blokes", very detailed and I like the reasoning of your purchases, so people new to 4x4 learn something at the same time, also the very long detailed list in the comment section. Will come back to you if I ever have money to buy. Also like the German words in your review, like "Saft" for electricity, due to my own German background. Hopefully come back to you in the future when my own time to explore this country comes round. Uli

    awesome truck Stephan. You make a good choise to chainge, and go for the 105. Here in west Europe the 105 is verry difficult to find. And cost a fortune. (minimum €20 000--) And the builing to a offroader cost also a fortune. Toyota parts cost a 3 a 4 time what here cost land rover parts. So i stay with the Disco 2. Thank you for share this great video. And all the best for 2019.

    ...top review! danke und top notch wie immer....mein 80er geht momentan in die andere Richtung. Seit zwei Jahren modifiziere ich das Teil zurueck ... also von fetten ARB-Rammen und 315ern zu unauffaelligen AT‘s, zurueck von nem 10inch lift zu einer moderaten Hoehe...dafuer mit Radflo-shocks und schoen weichen Federn...kein Vergleich zum Porno Setup...welches das Fahrzeug einst hatte...aber wie Du sagst...der HD-FTE ist eine grossartige Schoepfung...insbesonders in der CH... in Downunder solls ja doch noch einige habe ... Should be an interesting challenge for you. I assume you’re still happy with your bunker and 270° awning camp setup, whilst not strictly vehicle related, camping habit generally builds the vehicle in my opinion. We’ve noticed, but yet to confirm, for example, the fuel usage between the swag and the Oztent. Could shave weight moving to crop sensor 😉

  • @mash988

    Very nice build Stefan! My feeling is most builders / modifiers go overboard, I prefer to keep my vehicle stock as possible and as light as possible - not to say that you have, but I just feel that most mods don't really provide the degree of increase in performance perceived, and they add more things to go wrong when you're out in the bush. And out here, it can be even worse with the nearest COMPETENT garage a VERY long way away. I also have a 105 (2006) but with the standard 1HZ diesel - bit slow on the hills but otherwise capable in almost all terrains except "playing" in the dunes (which I'm not into anyway). I would probably prefer a 1HDFTE but VERY difficult to find it here (South Africa), and then it costs a lot, too much for me. Enjoy your vehicle and enjoy the adventures!!

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear what you saying but would disagree, I have not added many mods which add complexity and in my experience, the additional capabilities and increased strength make it more reliable and provide an additional buffer. I think Afrika is also different terrain wise and is not as isolated? I don't think any modification ever cut a trip short in my Defender it always was a Landrover stock part like fuel pump, gearbox. Weight is an issue but if you spend four weeks in the desert without resupply you can’t get around it. Carrying this loads over very rough terrain with stock parts is waiting for stuff to fail.

    • @mash988
      @mash988 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, you are correct and I would agree. The only real mod I have is the raised and stronger suspension...as well as stainless steel water tanks under each side of the 105...brilliant. Plus a two-drawer system. What did I leave out?? Oh yes, the snorkel! Haha. I also used to drive a Defender, and they have their place in certain applications for sure, great vehicles. Anyway, I believe in lighter-the-better in general, and in retrospect (with respect to my comment) I think its more perhaps what kit people take with and not necessarily the after-market modifications they make to the vehicle, which are mostly necessary depending on where you are headed or what terrain they will need to negotiate. I'm a guide out here and travel widely...in my opinion the amount of "mod-cons" people attach to their vehicles or PACK to take with in order to make their lives "easier and more comfortable" is absolutely astounding! I opine that they are mostly missing the point of separating themselves from their 'comfort zone' at home and heading out into some sort of wilderness...I notice people, a lot, spending an inordinate amount of time "fiddling and faffing" with all their kit they have brought with them and missing out on precisely what they should be engaging with, a connection to the world around them. They seem to exist in a cocoon of mod-cons which they've brought with them in the erroneous belief that they are necessary, even critical! In contrast, the 'awakening' and 'connection' they experience when actively encouraged to exist a little more "primitively," is a wonderful sight, and well-worth it! Granted, some folks would just like the (in my opinion, insulated) experience of their vehicle, it's movement, capability and their interaction with mates - it's enough for them. But I cannot recommend highly enough that the less kit you take with the more you will (probably) connect with wilderness, inside and out.

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, 100% agree and I do carry very little mod cons, no showers or hot water systems for instance and to be honest, I'm learning to go simpler with each trip and would agree that you connect more and also will become more resourceful by having to make do...
