My guitar idol for decades now. I cried watching Larry struggle through the tremors but still keep control and play beautifully. To hear him say in a previous NAMM video from the same day that he hadn't picked up a guitar in a month is just tear jerking. My dad was Sinatra's sax player for decades. If he couldn't pick up his horn every day we knew something was up. He made it to 98 but hadn't played for a few months before he passed. We wish Larry only the best, and if he comes to NYC again, you can be sure that we'll be there to see him as we have for years.
Tell your Idol he only needed to learn 3 chords or less, he might have been a multi billionaire now. Jazzers play too many chords changes in a song. Poop, cRap music with 3 or less chords makes millions $1,000000,00+ usd while jazzers playing 500 chord changes in a 3 minute song makes only Ten dollars. Maybe that's why Larry is making guitars now, because jazz music didn't pay for multiple mansion houses, fast luxury supercars, private jets and fleet of Yatch's ! He dress like a homelss too cause he cant afford all the shit designer drips
His soul is still singing through guitar!! Make no mistake that it takes great courage to get up in front of an audience of mostly guitar players and not to mention The World via YT!! Remember he’s Larry Carlton and that’s a really tough act to follow for anyone I’ve ever heard:-)
An iconic figure in recorded music, a legendary musician in American culture. His struggles with the shakes are irrelevant to the quality of the music that comes out of his guitar. His chord melody is as astonishing as ever and it's great to see him smile at his own genius.
They're all at another booth watching Matteo Mancuso over-play. Don't get me wrong, I love Matteo, and there's no doubt he's got the technique of the gods, but when you compare him to a mature stylist like Larry you realize how young Matteo really is and how much growing he still needs to do.
They are watching the shredders somewhere else...Larry Carlton is for ears not for eyes but unfortunately nowadays it is all about who is the fastest and more technical.
Damn I love Larry!! Transcribed all his stuff when I was a kid. I need to go back and revisit all of Larry’s records….Sleepwalk…Friends has some of the best guitar shit ever!! ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
I saw him in 82 or 83 during his Sleepwalk tour at the Tralf in Buffalo. I sat at the center table 5 feet in front of him. I'll never forget it! He was amazing, and he's the reason I just bought an ES-335.
My #1 fav player by far since I was captivated by the Crusaders. I could listen to Larry all day & sometimes do. You've given so much to the world & inspired me to play. Much health & happiness to you. And I'm totally luvin' my Sire Tele ! God bless you Larry !
Larry Thank you for everything you taught me and giving me so much pleasure listening to all your stuff.Your a total legend.Your still doing an awesome job and swinging like only you can despite your health issues.Love you man.👌
Sooo tasteful. Every note part of a phrase, phrase part of a sentence, sentence part of a paragraph... He's always been so good. One of my early favorite jazz guitar players, before I even really got into jazz. I remember listening to The Crusaders and his solos on their Southern Comfort album - wow, like 50 years ago. He still sounds terrific.
Imagine the sense of safety and peace of mind knowing you've got your wing-man in these situations - especially when the environment is intimidating or you're not having your best day.
Watched Larry live at the Blue Note in Tokyo in 2019. Fantastic concert, great guitarist and a beautiful person. These guitars have great looks and will probably never sound better! 😊
His body of work is extensive. What ever the tremors are from is not affecting his playing so I’m glad for him. I’ve got two Sire guitars and they are good. This jazz box, I’m a bit skeptical about. But interested. It looks like a big one, 17” maybe?
This is great! We've seen this with many famous/iconic artists, but it always amazes me the passers-by (even some present, sitting) that don't have a clue. You just want to shake them and say, whether it's Carlton, Benson, Johnson, Jackson Jr., Ritenour, Gill, or Burrell, Kessel, Campbell, Reed, Perkins, Dale etc, back in the day - WTH is wrong with you?.. you're witnessing the Paul McCartney (at least) of guitar! Edit: I know, Carlton's problem is he doesn't shred 🙄
OOOOH, I want one of these... It looks like Paul Reed Smith on the mixer board..LOL. Anybody know what guitar this is, other than a Sire? Model? I don't find it on their website.
Your comment is the first one on here to acknowledge what was obvious to me on the first few notes; he's suffering from some kind of compromised motor control issue. I'm not dissing him in the slightest, because he was a fantastic player and a model for guys like myself learning to play in the '70's, but he is clearly NOT capable of playing on that level now.
@@pallheat namm. I said in response to you saying he should make a standards album, that he’s retired so we probably won’t get music (an album) from him again. I’m aware he’s playing a standard, but not a hope he’ll be making a standards album.
How thick is the back of the neck on this newer guitar model? I tried his 335 model and it sounded great but the neck was very chunky with an unusually narrow nut width which is based on his particular 335.
I believe you mean “Soujthern Knights”. I saw him back in the ’70s play with Crusaders, before he was that well known. I think I was the only white boy in the venue!😆 But I was waiting to hear some of his solos off of this record and Chain Reaction, and man, he didn’t disappoint! He soared!
I would love to see Sire come out with a guitar similar to the GB-10. This 17" jazzer is just too bulky for me. If they could shrink it down to 15 1/2" it would be perfect. The GB-10 is even smaller but even well used Japanese ones are pretty expensive.
It's really nice to see Larry playing again . Got to choose easier songs, but the timing is still there even with his problems . But his history is as high as it gets and anyone that's heard or seen him in the last several decades can attest, he's one of the all time greats . Love to Larry Carlton . :)
I have to admit I don´t really know. But I think he has had these tremors since he was shot in a gang attack in the late 80´s. The bullet apparently caused nerve damage in his left arm/shoulder....However like I said I don´t know, it is just a guess...

Steve Lukather told a story about Carlton breaking his top three strings at once, then playing a monstrous solo on the bottom three 😮
man, that must be so frustrating. kudos to Larry for still sounding killer
A very kind and loving note here, Glenn. Respect and appreciation.
He’s been through so much; don’t forget the time he got shot😢

The man has forgotten more than the rest of us will ever know.
Many thanks for uploading.
Touch, taste and tone = Larry Carlton. What an absolute legend.
When Larry’s guitar talks we listen . Gorgeous ❤️
Blows me away why this room is not full of guitar players watching this guitar master.
Larry is known by non-guitarists as well. Mainly for his time spent playing with The Crusaders.
Imagine walking around and seeing him playing...would be a top 5 days of my life

Thanks so much for share this video. 🎸💯🎼

Breaks my heart. Saw him a few years ago, and he seemed completely healthy. Got hooked on his music over 40 years ago.
Glad to see him still playing. Thanks for sharing this
Larry is fantastic he’s made a lot of people happy and influenced so many players

shout out to Rick Wheeler........the most loyal guitar tech a man could ever find. Cheers Rick.

WOW! Larry Carlton and George Benson were the real guitar greats at the show.
immeasurable Larry Carlton
ラリーカールトン師匠。かなりお年を取られましたね。健康に気をつけてどんどん長生きしてすばらしいプレイを🎉何を弾いてもカールトンサウンド🎉
Got to meet him in '75 in Houston. Nicest cat ever and a really fine player.
A living legend ❤
Great : the Master.
I’ve loved Larry since the 80s. I have several Sire guitars but what model is he playing? I WANT ONE!!
Thank you so very much for posting this..! I keep playing it over and over. It's da 💣
Lovely to hear a fresh take on this great old song. Best wishes from a fan.
Larry Carlton is the original "triads" improvisor-the rest of us said "What is that?" This guy was miles ahead of the pack.
Such a beautiful instrument.
Great to see Larry
Beautiful playing! Thank you Larry!
One of the greatest guitar players ever!!
Saw Larry around 1985 at the Beverly theatre in LA. I believe he opened up for Al Di Meola soaring through a dream tour.
"All the things you're..." LOL
Great man !
My hero
Doesn’t get better thanks for sharing :)
Nothing technically spectacular, but a sublime sense of time and melody and taste . . .
Nerve damage and Parkinson's.
I still think some of his best work was with the Crusaders. He was a big reason for their success.
Larry Carlton: the greatest!
Larry is the GOAT! Love the clean shaved head!

LARRY CARLTON IS TRULY A LIVING LEGEND! WHAT MOST PEOPLE DON'G KNOW IS THAT LARRY CAN ALSO SING HIS ASS OFF! HE'S SMOOTHE AS SMOOTHE CAN GET!

I just spent 4 days at NAMM, but didn't know about this. Thanks for posting!
What a taste. Larry is the Man.
Legend 😮
mostly muscle memory still elegantly killing it!
So musically 😂 Thank you!
Larry aka Mr 335 is a impeccable musician sublime playing Larry.
ラリーもこういう所で弾いてくれるんだ、、居合わせたギャラリーは超ラッキー!
What a performance.....consider yourself very lucky all you bystanders .....👏👍👌💪😎💰🇺🇸🦫😂
Legend ❤
master studio musician i never could reach his level because i didnt earn it he did
My Hero. Bit what happened to his hand? Some sort of tremor ? Anyone can explain ?
OOOOH, I want one of these... It looks like Paul Reed Smith on the mixer board..LOL. Anybody know what guitar this is, other than a Sire? Model? I don't find it on their website.
Sire H7F
This is new Sire h7f
What guitar is that"?
Larry Carlton's the MAN!
Super son

Gosh 😢😢😢😢 a such legend .. what happened to him ? He was my model for decades

Never knew Sire had an archtop.
😭❤
Great sounding guitar! Is that a Larry Carlton signature jazz box from Sire? If so, intriguing. Larry should make a trad standards album.
it is
He’s pretty much retired so unfortunately, don’t think we’ll get more music from him. Especially not standards.
@@JordanHigginsGuitar Well, he's playing a standard here.
@@pallheat namm. I said in response to you saying he should make a standards album, that he’s retired so we probably won’t get music (an album) from him again.

The new models have the wider width
@@MarkStearle do you mean the nut width or that the neck is thicker from the back? (chunkier)
nut width 43mm@@IsaacLausell
Southern Comfort, the Crusaders was my first introduction to a young Larry Carlton

Sempre bravo Larry
When he started playing, everyone in the hall should have been gathering at his point. Can’t imagine who’s dumb enough not to do it.

I agree. The older we get the more our joints protest the larger bodies.
@Taylort3b .....I'm old enough to be your grandpa and my should joints hurt at times so I now prefer smaller bodied guitars and a shorter scale neck.
@@JackTheSkunk 78 this November.😞 Still toying with idea of acquiring an Ibanez AM93QM. Smaller and thinner body.
The Roger Federer of the guitar, thank you for it all! 🎸🍾❤️
The tennis guy of guitar? Please explain
what amp use ?
Nice to see Paul sr. From American chopper there
You mean..."All the things you are"???

A great fan...saw him in 86 doing the video series at the Baked Potato. Are the tremors a condition or an age thing kicking in?...cheers

Rick Wheeler right there making sure all sounds perfect!
2:19 Is that Paul Sr. From Orange County Choppers in th B.G.? 😄
I LOVE MY SIRE L7V
just pop music, quite pleasant if you just want to relax.
I love it when he doesn't play the blues. He's a great jazz guitarist, one of the best.
❤...MR.335,
The musical brain is still all there
A new Sire jazz box??
delighted to hear Jamey Aebersold show up on this gig
He’s gigging everywhere these days!

Is that a new signature Sire model guitar he’s playing?
Yes. Sire H7F
Because what you always need in that sort of environment is all the treble rolled off
Can he hear the backing tracks? With all the merchant's noise.....😢
Tasty 😂
Very nice of you to share this. Thanks! Is this a new Sire?
Yes. Sire H7F
