The Cheltenham Haunting - The real story of the Woman in Black

  • While the Woman in Black franchise is a fictional story based on a gothic novel written in 1983, there is a real-life case that included a similar ghost. The case of the Cheltenham ghost became one of the first widespread stories of the paranormal and included some seriously chilling accounts from those who came in contact with the Woman in Black.

      I’ll have to ask her I saw a maid walk through the wall later on when I was a toddler we moved to another regency house in Malvern road that was converted to flats we had the top floor which would’ve been servants quarters and I’ve never forgotten it my mums friend was babysitting and he saw it too we then moved across to lansdown crescent another regency conversion into flats and you’d hear phantom walking up the stairs and no other flat doors ever opened or closed 😃

    I have been familiar with this case since the 1980s, when I read about in a compilation of cases from the archives of the British Society for Psychical Research. I have always been impressed by Rosina Despard, who lived at Garden Reach with her family in the 1880s and tried on many occasions to "catch" the ghost. She was a very rational and fearless young woman who went on to become a doctor. Better than any fiction based on this fascinating haunting!

    • @BleakiBlinder
      @BleakiBlinder  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Absolutely, a pioneer in the field for sure. She is the reason why I believe in this case, she was so matter of fact and didn’t seem to want the attention.

    My partners family live in Prestbury and I've had a few experiences there I saw a lady walk into the dining room which was never used and again into the bedroom the house was a 1950s bungalow so not that old. I also was grabbed in Sainsbury's (yes you may laugh) I spun round to shout at the person who grabbed me roughly on the shoulder only to be met with nothing and I was in the middle of an empty aisle. Needless to say I left my shopping and the store as fast as I could 😂 I also 'saw' a grey figure in the local church graveyard that just vanished. I later found out that Prestbury is supposedly the most haunted place in Britain. I must also tell you some time about an experience my Mom had with the Ouija board (sorry I'm Brummie lol) before I was born that affected me without knowing about it for many years it still fascinates me and makes me wonder.

Im not explaining it well at all but the way it was explained in the documentary more or less convinced me these imprints are likely the most logical explanation for ghosts. I lived in a haunted house back in the 60's and 70's. The house was built back in 1889 in St. Louis, Mo area. There was an older gentleman that died in the house before we moved in, and his body was not discovered for two weeks. There was also a 7-year old that had died in the house in about 1907 from fever, and was buried in the back yard until the 1940's when she was moved to a graveyard. The main ghost was the old man. My only complaint is the narrator spoke far to fast for me did not pause between sentences and I felt like you were reading in a great hurry which really spoilt it for me.
    As I said it was very interesting had it have been at a much slower pace.

      Hey Lesleyel, this was one of my first videos and I’ve learned a lot since then - including taking a breath between sentences and not speaking like I’m stuck on fast forward 😂. Why not check out the more recent years. I do intent on revisiting this case very soon!

      Thank you once again 🙏😊. I really enjoy the Women in Black, in fact, it’s one of my go to horrors when I want a film with a creepy atmosphere.

    The Woman In Black wasn't a bad horror film really. Can't help but think it would have bene much better if Daniel Radcliffe wasn't in it.

    Why are all scary ghosts only from the Victorian era?

    • @BleakiBlinder
      @BleakiBlinder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Victorians were obsessed with death and morbid tales, so they documented cases, wrote many fictional novels, and shared the stories which were passed down. They even posted them in the newspapers!
