    This was an encoder fault. The elevator did not know where it was in the shaft so the controller forced it to re learn its position in the shaft before letting the passenger off. This eliminates the issue of the elevator arriving at that floor improperly leveled. At least that is what this Schindler appeared to do.

    I guess that this is one of my most favorite videos to watch! LOL! Anyways, if everyone is wondering, this is at the Mercedes-Benz Parking Garage in Sugar Land, TX. I've been on this elevator many many times and it had no issues.

    Well, this is not the first incident involving a 3300 failure. Did anyone see the video from ElevatingDenver about Colorado's first 3300 failing and saying that it was due to battery problems?

      *Why modern lifts aren't as reliable as vintage lifts:*
      I hate to say it, but these types of lifts are primarily run using computer programs designed by the lift company themself. When you push the button, you're not really activating any mechanism on the logic. What really happens is you're running lines of code in the program to instruct the lift to run even more classes throughout the program & all those lines of computer code is what makes the lift get to the next floor.

      Nathan Andrew Davis when I started going to the school in Batavia they had a really weird elevator like I remember one time I wrote it myself and it just kept going up and down up and down between two floors because that’s all we had and I just wouldn’t stop so after a while about three minutes or so It decided to let me out finally that’s what is good.

    I think what happened was a controller glitch. One of the reasons I like older elevators more is they wouldn't do something like this unless poorly maintained and the relays are caked in dirt or if it's An Autotronic or Selectomatic system, which are normally unpredictable like the one at the Board of Trade Building in Portland which did something very similar to me like what happened in this video!!!! Newer Elevators can be very unpredicatable, but 3300 is a nice model, and this sure did make the ride more interesting!!!!

      That also what happened to me when I filmed the Otis elevator at Young Hall on University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. The elevator acted like someone called it from the 2nd floor and the elevator slowed down by then proceeded down to the first floor. It was weird.

    • @blueauraretriever
      @blueauraretriever 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Schindler 3300 is pretty nice, one thing I have discovered with newer lifts including the EcoDisc is that you're interacting with a giant block of *computer software* when riding in a lift. When you press the button, it calls a command in the code to go to a floor at a fixed rate. Then when it approaches the floor it references the part of the software which controls the acceleration of the lift. Then this code controls what speed the doors open & if it has intelligent leveling or not.
      Whereas with old lifts, you're actually activating *relays* when you press buttons instead of playing with computer software.
      Modern lifts are run by computers in essence, even the ThyssenKrupp lifts at the World Trade Cen

    looks like a learning run...I remember seeing a video on TH-cam about elevators by Deviant Olam (?) which mentioned that if the controller gets a wacky reading and forgets where the lift is, it will make a complete tip to bottom run of the shaft reading every trip to re-learn where each floor is.

    • @upanddownadventures
      @upanddownadventures 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so for 2 reasons.
      1. The elevator went up to 3, then back down to 1 by itself. If it was a learn trip it more likely would have gone all the way up to 5.
      2. A learn trip in many cases would be at a very slow speed.

    I had an almost similar experience with an OTIS Gen 2.
    Basically going up from ground floor to 4th, when arriving to 4th floor it started to level it self but never finished it.
    I'm not sure if I was a bit anxious or light headed, but it felt as if it was going a bit up and a bit down, trying to level it self with the floor.
    After like a minute it gone down and stopped at a third floor and let me out.

      @dyl46225 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JoshCraver9000 You most definitely can't say it about the AU EcoDiscs. There are two at my local club. They both run at 2 metres a second, just the only difference is one is the 2nd Gen EcoDisc which is now used as a service lift after a club upgrade and as which it was the only elevator to access the cellar for the bar, and the other is a 3rd Gen EcoDisc with AUS300 buttons. The 2nd Gen has been there for about 8 years, and has had not ONE problem with it! Same goes with the 3rd Gen, just it's been around for only a year in the club.

    • @dyl46225
      @dyl46225 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TheDragonFire123 Sadly you're statement is not true. Most of them just rattle and shake and have loud motors. That is the case for the Schindler 3300AP in the shopping centre next to the club. It still is in good running condition, and goes 3m/s surprisingly! It's use then was cut when a Schindler mid rise was installed on the other side of the centre. I don't have the exact model name, but it is very good! It carries 53 people and can transport almost ALL the trolleys from the parking lot bays to the shopping level. Oh, and by that, I mean in the lift all at ONCE!
