I am a bilingual and this is seriously amazing! I was born in Italy but, thanks to years of practice, I am extremely fluent in English. Now I am really successfully learning Spanish as well. This guy is legit. Language teachers need to be straight forward like this. Practical, realistic, relatable advice for the common, busy person. Subscribed. 👍🏻
I immersed myself in Spanish by watching telenovelas everyday. The same show so I could get accustomed to 1 accent until the show ended, then I'd have to get used to another accent. We have a Spanish speaking neighborhood but I was running a daycare and couldn't take other people's children around for selfish reasons. My friends laughed at me and asked if I learned a lot of love words and arguments but I learned a lot of phrases they didn't because telenovelas use language the way people talk to each other in everyday speech. I learned more this way than I learned in 3 & 1/2 years of study. I do want to say that all those years of conjugation were a LOT of help because I conjugated as I spoke without realizing I used the correct conjugation. So I would NEVER criticize that.
Also, if you use captioning you are reading, not listening. I know, I made that mistake and realized it after about a month. I would watch and come up with my own answers to what the characters were saying and see if I got it right. I was surprised that that actually worked. I got it right several times.
One of the best ways to learn a language is to get into a relationship with someone who speaks that language and have them talk to you all the time . Trust me you'll learn quickly .
It’s funny. I took 5 years of Spanish, and by the time I was done I spoke the language fluently, but I had issues understanding it when I was spoken to. Ive worked construction full time for 2 years, and I’ve been around Hispanic contractors the whole time. Just talking to them and listening I’ve learned more in 2 years than I did in 5 years of classes. Immersion really is the best way to learn a language. Now I speak and understand Spanish with no problems. I have a weird accent because I’ve learned from so many different dialects, but I don’t sound like an American just trying to speak Spanish anymore.
Yes start replacing your (English or native )words with your targeted language. Especially basic words like hi, bye , please, etc. The point is , allow the language to become apart of you, and adopt it as a new lifestyle. That way there is no resistance in becoming fluent.
I’m learning Spanish currently, I’m already bilingual since I speak Hebrew, but I find that once you know one language, it’s soooo much easier to learn a new one.
Hey Rickie, It's nice to see other people who enjoy learning languages as much as I do. Thanks for the tips ! Just to add on "immersing yourself in the language", one of the simplest things to do instantly is changing your phone language and all the apps will change as well (Uber, Netflix, Google Play, etc..). It's really cool, and I remember the first time I changed it, it was funny coz I got really confused but then I got used to it. Thanks again for the tips and continue following your languages passion ! Best wishes, Omar

OBalfaqih Oh yes. I've been doing that for years. Good mention! I should have said that on here but it's second nature to me lol. Thanks for checking out the video.
It's okay, you have mentioned the main good ones in the video. Really enjoyed it, liked and subscribed to your channel ! All the best and thanks for your reply :D

OBalfaqih Thanks so much! I appreciate that. and I feel that if someone can take the time to not only watch my content but to respond to it then it is only right for me to respond ya know. 👍 there is more to come soon!
I'm so glad that I discovered your channel because I am half-Dominican , and I specifically would like to learn Dominican spanish. My mom was Dominican, but she passed away when I was little. I know some Spanish from family (mostly food lol) and school (the Spain type), but now I'm learning faster! Thank you!
I don’t know it very well but I know a decent amount and im trying to learn it fluently. My wife is from Guatemala and many of my friends are from Mexico and they couldn’t speak English very well and so I pick up on it. I love the Spanish language
This video got me in surprised. I'm Dominican myself checking on how English people would get to learn Spanish and was drawn to your video because of various elements that suggest several aspects of the Dominican scene: the Reggae background beat, your Spanish, I would even dare to say you sort of speak English with the Dominican swagger which is pretty cool to watch. Great job, keep it up. You can be my friend if want to come down to the island some day.

Ulises José Corona de Jesús wow Thanks man. I would love to live there but I don't know if that'll ever happen. I know I will definitely visit some day.thanks for checking out the video. How'd you learn English?
I've been to the States a few times, and lived in the Internet since its origins so words snag and kind of stick with you over time. ...like your Spanish, and your channel, is excellent content for Spanish learners and lovers of culture.
Guys!! I know it’s nerve wracking trying to speak to people in a different language but at my work I have people who speak Spanish and it helps so much speaking to them! You got this y’all!
Thank you for these. I just started learning a few months ago because I want to expand my horizons and interact more with my local culture (I live in Albuquerque). These are things I'm doing instinctively. I have a book, a software, make my own flashcards, try to read books in Spanish, watch Spanish shows, watch kid's cartoons (Peppa Pig has an official Latin American youtube channel) and read all the local bilingual/Spanish ads. I also learned a lot of the food/cooking terms pretty quickly because I love to cook. It's all about the motivation, and I can now understand about 80% of those cartoons. LOL I recently discovered your channel and it's been super helpful. (A lot of culture stuff also is on the wonderful Buzzfeed's "Pero Like" channel and they have several cultures represented). Thank you for all you do!
I'm 52 years old and I'm trying to learn Spanish for the first time ever. This video was so helpful and encouraging. Thank you@

I'm currently in my 4th year of spanish (taking two spanish classes rn), and I plan on making my way up to AP Spanish 5. I've seen what the exam demands and I'm genuinely excited to get to that point where I can understand the language very well. My family mainly speaks spanish but I was never taught it. I hope to be able to learn it to the point where I can finally communicate with them
Awesome video, man! I'm a polyglot myself, and I enjoy watching people talk about Spanish (I'm Mexican-American and I speak Mexican Spanish lol.) Your Spanish sounds really good!

Great video. Yes! You are right about immersion. Spanish is such beautiful language. I have taken the opportunity to learn a second for granted for so many years. I am learning at a snails pace, but I am learning. Thank you for your vids.
This is just the video I need!! So I'm previously living in the Dominican republic because my dad has business out here and I have to start school in one months so its crucial from me to learn spanish and I'm trying to learn dominican slang and stuff like that. Since I'm still a kid I know I will catch on fast but its still very hard
7 ปีที่แล้ว
Lucky! I wish I lived there lol. Since you'll be around it all of the time, you'll learn it quick. I have a Dominican slang video coming out soon. Also I know of a few websites that teach Dominican slang, but since you're a kid, I don't really to pass the sites with bad phrases to you.
Love your last point. As a language student, I once made the mistake of saying tengo mierda instead of tengo miedo. It was absolutely not what I meant to say, but my mistake made the class laugh and we all had a good time in it. Mistakes teach us and I can assure that I will never do that again. JAJA
I love the Dominican dialect. That makes sense to learn a dialect. Never thought about that. I want to finish learning Spanish. It’s intimidating. I have a good foundation...took Spanish in high school...took two years in college...took some private Spanish classes in my adult years...but I have this “I’m too old” mentality at 36 years old. I once heard someone say that the only thing stopping anyone from learning Spanish is motivation. I think that immersion is key...and I thought that what you said about “everything else” being in Spanish is key. I know people have dreams of leaving the country...but I’ve NEVER had a desire to go to another country. Like...I don’t want to go...period. So...that was dope how you explained immersion without leaving. What was your study game like? Did you sit down and do a Spanish work book daily...or just look up vocab...or just watch a show...like what was your daily routine?
Great advice and great video.

I guess you can say that I'm translating in my head simultaneously.
thank you for your videos!! I married into a Puerto Rican family and have been listening to Iheartradio to try to "immerse" myself, while living in kentucky!! near impossible task, so your videos help! thank you!

You can do it no matter where you are. You just have to apply yourself, and immerse yourself hardcore. That's what I did and it paid off! Bendiciones! Also I have another site instead of iheartradio. YOu can listen to any radios station in the world almost. www.radiowebsites.org/
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to discover try Nadazma Fast Spanish Helper (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.

Good video! The only thing I disagree with is learning a dialect. Learn the words and vocabulary that is understandable in all Spanish speaking countries. You can learn the differences later but focus on the „Basic“ Spanish first
He aprendido mas en esto video (como para aprender) de que yo arendi en las clases de otras lenguajes. Como... la verdad es que esto video es mas cierto de muchas classes.

Speaky.com gives you the opportunity to speak with people from Spanish speaking countries all around the world. Or if you do not yet feel comfortable speaking with them, you can speak with English speakers who are around your level of Spanish. I loved it!
Your accent is soo good for never going to south America!! I'm working on that i have much improvement in that area. You have wonderful tips that you!!!

Gracias! It's was pure imitation in the beginning, and now it's second nature. If you're trying to really pick up an accent/dialect imitate and find articles and videos that either describe the accent, or have people using it. Éxito!
Today is my 40 days in Spanish,am just taking my time. Am Jamaican I hardly speak standard English language but am learning both of them at once 🇯🇲. When you are in the tourist industry you got to know some languages or else you are going to be left behind.
I just subscribed to your channel. This is going to be a challenge for me but I am learning Español. I am Native American and speak Navajo but we also have many Spanish speakers living in our little town. I want to understand what they say and how I can help those who struggle with speaking English. So I said to myself "You know what, I'm going to learn! I am going to try and communicate with them." I found your videos and liked them. I'm learning to trill my R's. Thanks for all you do!! 👍

1. Take your learning seriously
2. Immerse yourself in the language
3. Study 1 dialect
4. Speak the target language often
5. Write down what you learn

Pero, cuando leo el español, tengo la palabras de inglés en mi mente al mismo tiempo. Eso es mal para (a beginner?) I guess you can say that I'm translating in my head simultaneously.
Tambien yo aprendo eapañol ahora
Sacó seis años en mi escuela y recuerdo un pequito español. Estoy probando continuar mi aprendido.
thank you for your videos!!
Ricky that good that you are speaking Spanish. Keep up the work San Jose Ca
I love Spain and Cuban dialects! I incorporate both.
I'm Puertorican and Colombian, yet I don't know Spanish, this is gonna help alot
My Bro Te Pareces A Drake Solo Que Eres Mas Moreno

EMMANUEL BH socio, sé que me parezco a muchas personas pero drake no es una de ellas jaja.
Rickie Walls You are very handsome.
Rickie Walls lol ahora que alguien dijo eso. Tu si pareces a Drake lol.
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to discover try Nadazma Fast Spanish Helper (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.
+EMMANUEL BH There are several components to teaching yourself to speak Spanish quickly . A place I found that succeeds in merging these is the Fergs spanish blueprint (check it out on google) without a doubt the no.1 resource that I've seen. Check out the amazing info .
Very smart and wise young man!
Thank you. I just want to help others learn.
love your videos! they're fun and you give great tips!!
Good video! The only thing I disagree with is learning a dialect. Learn the words and vocabulary that is understandable in all Spanish speaking countries. You can learn the differences later but focus on the „Basic“ Spanish first
Numero dos es muy dificil. When you don't live alone...
Great job!
I like the tips! I cannot do "speak, speak, speak" though as I don't have someone to speak with.
Speaky.com gives you the opportunity to speak with people from Spanish speaking countries all around the world. Or if you do not yet feel comfortable speaking with them, you can speak with English speakers who are around your level of Spanish. I loved it!
Cool, thanks! I don't feel comfortable speaking with strangers but I'll check that out.
How were you able to learn which country’s dialect?
Eres chingon, jovenazo.
I wish I could practice with you!! LOL Gracias por tu video!!
Great job & tips, tfs!!! 😊❤
Thank you for this. I've watched so many videos on this and yours has so many tips I've never heard. This really put a fire under me to start 💕
I took 6 years and retained so little, im trying to continue my learning out of school
Éxito!
When I immerse myself in Spanish it gives me a headache lol think I’m trying too hard.
THIS 😭😭
Today is my 40 days in Spanish,am just taking my time. Am Jamaican I hardly speak standard English language but am learning both of them at once 🇯🇲. When you are in the tourist industry you got to know some languages or else you are going to be left behind.
Where did you get the materials (books, movies, shows) in Dominican Republic Spanish? They're hard to find outside of music.
Hi, I’m watching this 3 years later but have you ever found out? Cause I’m interested as well
