In 1987, when I was 15, a cool older guy of 17, who drove a green AMC Gremlin and wore combat boots, made me a mixtape with this song on it. It also included Yaz, Soft Cell, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and other "alternative" bands that I wasn't that familiar with at the time. I listened to that tape for years. Man, I wish I still had it.
Gary Numan and Kraftwerk were ahead of their time too, and even The Buggles were important as Dire Straits that made MTV possible. (It was not an easy feat behind-the-scenes.)
London 1983 with my best friend Darren. We're from Los Angeles. Had the time of ours lives- Smiths, Devoto, Echo...And my 21st bday at Heaven. RIP Darren. Miss you dearly ❤
Best version of this song that I’ve heard. These chaps helped to pioneer the “industrial” sound, years ahead of it becoming a recognized musical genre. Quite innovative.
I'm even later! They've got the coolest name bar none and I've been meaning to check them out for the last thirty-odd years. They have not disappointed
@@JohonnacI'm sure it was the director's decision. Because he was fascinated with the British new wave that at that time reigned on the charts, radio and television in the United States.
The Covenant, The Sword and the Arm of the Lord was the second CD I ever bought. The first was Black Celebration. I'm still playing those shiny holograms and loving it!
I remember seeing that but the early volataire is the album I bought got into them with skinny puppy first the opened up for the first wave pioneers with TG and industrial
I was 20 years old in 1985 ! On a wet Thursday night 2 mates took me on a trip to a club not known to those who would in 3 years que to worship at the altar of the Hacienda Manchester ! In 85 it was The underground music scene of modern music this was my intro. To a band that was out there ! Cabaret Volltare ! On a 100 K rig ! I bow my head to the sound of Northern Teckno as good now as then !! Respect ☯️.
This video still holds up, proving how ahead of their time Cabaret Voltaire were. The distorted guitar and disembodied vocals were so CV. Favorite lyrics: "Make some time here, fingers free, Keep your hands on your chemistry". Now, where can I get one of those dream machines?
@Mitchell Davis... Cheers for jumping in here with that bit of info! I was just about to ask. Off to look into Peter Care, his work(s). He did a fantastic job on this one, especially. : )
I was 18 when this song came out. I had just graduated from high school! I used to drive a 1972 Chevy Van with shag carpet. LOL I used to blast this song in my van.
My first exposure to Cabaret Voltaire was this video on 'Night Flight'. I remembered my young, Midwestern, isolated, teenage self being a bit scared and thinking I was getting away with something - it turned out I was.
kuroranj: Saw this on "Night Flight" while growing up in the Midwest back in the day too. The coolest thing about watching Night Flight was that they showed weird, crazy deranged videos you would literally never see anywhere else at the time, which made it even cooler to watch, lol.
This songs were played in the usual club program, in the Jabuka club (Apple) in Zagreb, Croatia, during the eighteenth. I was there, in that club, almost every Friday and Saturday, from 1985 to 199x... It was a great atmosphere, music and brotherhood... Time has passed, the memories are still alive. Although, some of us are no longer alive.
'83? '84? only way to see this video was in clubs that got the Rockamerica video tapes... always thought this was the creepiest thing I'd ever seen. Loved it.
There's one the best electronic industrial sounds of its Sarah such a great funky sound in the Facebook is so great voice is minute is menacing and it just smooth out and sounds great
1985 The Exchange Hotel Oxford Street, Sydney. Strobe lights, walls painted black, I'm in black leather with my girlfriend swinging around in fluro makeup, greatest of times.
If I can find a dance club that will play this song, these days, I am so there! I can't find a dance club anywhere, and I want/need to dance! Don't let dance clubs become obsolete! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER!
the thing that really gets me is that mute really cleaned up this version for their you tube channel while the transfer to the dvd compilation of "gasoline in your eye" is from vhs..uugghhh!!!

Make that tape yourself! Or mp3.
Thus TH-cam playlists were born.
What a dance trac just brilliant
Band was way ahead of its time. They turned me on to electronica way back in the 80s. Amazingly talented.
Gary Numan and Kraftwerk were ahead of their time too, and even The Buggles were important as Dire Straits that made MTV possible. (It was not an easy feat behind-the-scenes.)
Were they, or were they of their time?
Most other musical revolutions may not have taken place in the 90s onwards without this.

Cabaret Voltaire is awesome. Fuck anyone who hates them.
We're very fond of you as well.
Bless him - passed away today . Great band . K

Richard sadly passed away. Stephen is the lead singer featured in this music video and he's very much alive
Richard at 2:20
rip Richard,what a band,what a musician..:(
I dread to think how many times I listened to the album this is off between 1986-89. I was utterly obsessed with it
So funky and little noisy thing. Very impressive. And voice samples at 3:20 definitively break my heart. Just genius.
I'm glad I'm not the only one recognizing this particular part. Its. So. Cool.
@@DrAnGeber where is that from?
@@bojanarezina2352 that "lurking through the night" thing? Sounds like Stephen Mallinder himself 🤷♂️

Good on you brother. You can't go wrong with the Cabs.
I absolutely love & adore this song. Can't count how many times I danced to it in 80's nightclubs. Would be in my top 10. 🙂♥️
This takes me back to a great time in my life! I remember thinking it was cool Ferris had a poster on his wall in Ferris Bueller’s day off
Wonder if that’s because Matthew Broderick liked them or if it was the director/set designer’s choice??
Microphonies
@@JohonnacI'm sure it was the director's decision. Because he was fascinated with the British new wave that at that time reigned on the charts, radio and television in the United States.

I was listening to this music by Ela Minus - megapunk and couldn't help thinking of Cabaret Voltaire "I Want You"...
I like megapunk too but don’t really see the similarities 🤔
I’ve got this on vinyl. Old school brilliance
Me too
Love this song. Wish they wrote more like this. Classy stuff you can def dance to.
And to think I got into the Cabs from a poster on Ferris Buellers wall !!
really? i never noticed that.. have to rewatch.
Yeah the poster of micro phonies in Ferris Bueller room brought me back here again....
same here

I loved my ARM OF THE LORD cassette.I listened to a million times. It lasted for about 30 years. They must have been high quality cassettes.

I love the way they film their music videos! :P
oh yes! and that awesome camera on sensoria
Definitely for that one! Kinda reminds me of Depeche Mode's, "Shake The Disease".
Peter Care directed this video and many others
@Mitchell Davis... Cheers for jumping in here with that bit of info! I was just about to ask. Off to look into Peter Care, his work(s). He did a fantastic job on this one, especially. : )

Excellent group from back in the day with another fantastic song.

God damn, Doublevision/Cab videos are intense and innovative. Even 30+ years later.
awesome best version of this tune + video totally ROCKS
this music has stayed in my head from the late 80s :)
Used to hear this all the time on CFNY Toronto back in the 80s. Crazy.
My first exposure to Cabaret Voltaire was this video on 'Night Flight'. I remembered my young, Midwestern, isolated, teenage self being a bit scared and thinking I was getting away with something - it turned out I was.
kuroranj. Night flight!! Blast from the past!! Yes, good videos during a good time for music.
I miss Night Flight and 120 Minutes.

I loved Night Flight!! i remember i had to tilt my tv so the antenna could get the channel 😅
How are you doing now?
Great video for a great track
first remember seeing the video for Sensoria in 1984, it was on another channel than early MTV, but it was the first video that really blew my mind

Still sounds brilliant this one.
RIP Richard Kirk
Gorgeous.
Just masterpiece.... Industrial dark electro..

I love Cabaret
Yes I agree they seem to lack the harmony gene

I loved dancing to this song at Scream in LA.

And still listening in 2023.
The move into dance music after this release was ground breaking, Don’t argue ...(-_-)

Still a deceptively nightmarish quality, 36 years later.
That bass
So bad ass.
Though it was not the first album I heard by the Cabs, this was the first album by them that I bought. Still love it 35 years on...
haaa! Somehow Front 242s' "Headhunter" has an uncanny similarity to this gem "but not quite.. !"
Adrián Sherwood left a Mark on those bands.
the thing that really gets me is that mute really cleaned up this version for their you tube channel while the transfer to the dvd compilation of "gasoline in your eye" is from vhs..uugghhh!!!
Goodbye Richard... CV was a big part of my '80's.
Electronic music is the future ❤🎉
Criminally underrated band.
Mensch..wie lang ist das her..als ich im " Hard Rock Club " - Indie- Wave Laden in Mannheim dazu rumgeflippt bin..
This song and Album it was on is one of the Greatest of that year and Ever. A Perfect album. Amerikkka missed out something special. FACTS.😊
Anyone knows if these clips were all shot for the video or the non band frames are movies excerpts and which ones?
The non-band ones were all shot by the director Peter Care. He did that a lot in his videos.
