I love it how the journalists are all "this must be so big for you to sell out an arena, like now you're famous, like you've now got a career!" And Floor, diplomatic and lovely, is all like "oh sweet summer child".
She gained a new platform.... on top of the like 5 platforms she already had for many years. **eye roll** The Netherlands always think they're bigger than they actually are (and obviously I'm Dutch :P).

The ignorance of the guy at the end is astounding. Floor has just said how she loves to get back to the peace and quiet of home, and he jumps straight to the stereotype that they must be really noisy, and therefore must annoy any neighbours. It's the old journalistic saying: Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.
Typical of media all around the world, apparently. It's a shame.
I whould say they are the opposite. My Cousin works and lives in the same area and they are super nice neighbours according to her.

GOIRLE - Who doesn't know her? Since her appearances on the popular television programme Best Singers, the success and popularity of Goirle-born metal singer Floor Jansen (38) knows no bounds anymore. The media want to talk to her, the music world wants her on stage and a world tour with her Finnish band 'Nightwish' is on the agenda. In short, her planner is packed. Yet she is clear about her priorities. Because when it comes down to it, there is only one number one for Floor. And that's her daughter.

Floor Jansen has been living and working in Sweden for years and has been successful for years as lead vocalist of the Finnish metal band 'Nightwish', both there and abroad. Thanks to the television programme 'Best Singers', she is now also known and loved by the general Dutch public.
_Twenty years in the music business_
"And that's great! But sometimes it's also overwhelming", says Floor in the radio programme 'Muziek en Zo' (Music and so on). "But of course it's not like I'm the new kid on the block, I've been in the business for almost twenty years. Then you'll learn to deal with pressure and success. And do you know what is perhaps the best thing about the success with Best Singers? That this way I have been able to take away the prejudices about metal music and have shown that heavy metal is more than rough music by men in leather jackets."
Floor was born in Goirle, lived in Tilburg, studied at the Rock Academy in Tilburg. She attended a high school in Veghel. That school and in particular one of the teachers were of great influence on her future.

"This is a beautiful and special story to tell. I was taught there by a teacher who actually made me start making music. You have to understand that I was a very shy, dullisg girl back then. I was also bullied. Not nice at all. But then I got one of the leading roles in the school musical and he had arranged it for me. We also wrote songs together. He sent me a letter the other day and wondered if I remembered all of this. Of course I remember, he was my great source of inspiration!"
_Almost a professional soccer player_
When Floor Jansen tells about her life, an image emerges of a strong woman, but also a woman who has to keep a lot of balls in the air. And has to change from one role to another. After all, she is not only a singer, but also a daughter, wife and mother. How does she make sure those balls don't all fall down?
"Haha", laughs Floor, "when you see how they sometimes scatter in all directions, I almost feel like a professional soccer player. Still, there's only one big ball. And that's Nightwish. Also, after twenty years and a burn-out, I know better what I can and can't do. But it's certainly true that I have a lot of different hats on. That works out well, but sometimes it's also exciting. Because you don't always have control over what happens."
_Freja at number one_
When it comes to the agenda, there is no such thing as peace and quiet in the coming period. Her hubby, the Swede Hannes van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish metal band Sabaton, is currently in America and Floor is preparing for her world tour with Nightwish (including an already sold out Ziggo Dome on November 24, 2020). This makes it all the more important for her to enjoy this period in the Netherlands, together with her daughter Freja, who is two and a half years old. "My daughter really likes it when we are here. Because that means that we go to her grandparents. She is doing well and that's what it's all about. She is number one with me. She always leads the way."

Als de naam van het programma was: De beste zangers dan was je vertaling goed geweest, maar "de" mist in de titel! Zie het als een begin van een brief die je begint met: Beste Jan. Dan vertaal je dat niet als: Best Jan maar als: Dear Jan. Verder wel een aardige vertaling.

Interviewers ask the same questions, because they can't assume that the viewer or listener knows the answer from previous interviews. Floor has a broad musical education, sang a broad repertoire on Beste Zangers and was hugely succesfull with it, to her own surprise. I think it's perfectly normal to ask if that made her think about her options.
That question might have been a veiled reference to Floor going to Eurovision, especially the way Floor that she can't cancel appointments with Nightwish during their tour due to hype building up in the Netherlands. That's how I interpreted it, anyway.

She has a lot in common with Nightwish and the band gave her the boost that she needed and deserved. They click together so well and it's hard to hide it on stage. Why ditch a good thing going on?
It seems for me, that now that Dutch have tasted Floor, they are trying to steal her from us! Every interviewer is bringing up this. Noway, we had her first =)

Occasionally, YT puts something Floor in the recommended section - she came to my notice through this th-cam.com/video/Od_qcbw3f5Q/w-d-xo.html , so I would say that part of the Dutch non-metal audience already had an awareness of Ms. Jansen 6 years ago. Another Dutch singer in that TV series (which tried to popularize classical music) th-cam.com/video/gV_M108yotU/w-d-xo.html . If you compare these recordings with what you hear here, you may notice that these older recordings are more direct and give a better representation of how good these girls' voices actually are.
Oo. :II: Pee You say Norway had her first? That is really not true. You obviously do not know this but she was the lead singer of Dutch band After Forever from 1997 until 2008 and was very well known in the Metal scene both here in her native Netherlands and internationally. She also is 100% Dutch not Norwegian. So no I am sorry but WE the Dutch had her first. She is one of ours. But hey you're welcome! And we don't mind sharing!

When I say this, I mean it in the absolute best way possible: Nightwish is gateway metal in all the right ways! People have preconceived notions about metal and while some stereotypes are true, it's a very diverse genre. And Nightwish encompasses quite a bit of that diversity of sound. Just IMO.
Feel like that is a fair assesment, it does incoperate diffrent sounds. Furthermore, some songs are very popy. But i am fine with that. It should not be about labels but weather you enjoy it or not.

Exactly! Since I was 15, I've been a fan of bands such as Delain, After Forever, Nightwish and most of all Within Temptation. People are somehow always surprised when I tell them I listened to those band, but it's because of the expectations people have. Some of these bands are singing meaningful and beautiful music.So yeah... I'm someone who listens to pop (I'm a Mixer/Little Mix fan, for instance) but can also be a big fan of metal-bands. It doesn't have to clash, you don't have to chose one genre.

Thanks for the translation Denise. My "metalbaby" is 25 - she got into my CDs when she was about 4 (as soon as she could operate the player) and has never been the same. Of course, this had some cons as well, like the time her school asked us why she was wandering around shouting "Alice, Alice, Who the Fuck is Alice"?.
I don't have a metal kid, but I'm proud that he's into bands as diverse as King Crimson, The Beatles, Nirvana, Klaus Schulze, David Bowie, John Scofield, The Beach Boys, Radiohead, John Coltrane, Car Seat Headrest and many more. I'm proud of him. I never pushes him into any of this, he just listens to everything and decides what he likes and what he doesn't.

The ignorance of Dutch reporters/interviewers is beyond cringe as a Nightwish fan and fellow Dutch citizen. In their way of questioning they really shimmer through that they honestly think that Nightwish isn't a big of a deal and that Floor's career starts now....

Ze waren haar duidelijk aan het testen, zien of ze toehapt als ze vragen of ze de band op zou geven nu ze hier opeens als een trein gaat. Op zich niet heel gek als je kijkt naar hoe je dat soort artiesten er wel tussen hebt. Echter weten veel van de hardcore fans dat zij natuurlijk wel trouw blijft en puur genoeg is, daarom komt de vraag (volgens mij) wat dommig over. Maar het is puur een test.

My parents have a small house in Sweden. Closest neighbor is a 10 minute brisk walk away. They wouldn't hear us if we cried bloody murder outside, nevermind practising drums. Considering Floor has horses and, I assume, quite a bit more money than my parents, I would assume she's ever farther from the closest neighbour.

Love her for saying all this hype does not affect her since Nightwish always comes first (career-wise), which is totally understandable considering their history (how their cooperation began in symbiosis) and how she became a family member of the band. Some strange questions though, like 17k fans would a new thing for her, especially because she performed already 6 years ago to 80k+ fans in Wacken. Anyways, happy she gets all the recognition she deserves also in her home country.

Firstly, please allow me to send my deepest condolences to the family of Ann Waychoff, Nightwish's greatest historian and cheerleader. She is greatly missed by the worldwide Nightwish Army. I realize my post is quite late but I haven't seen this video for a long time after Ms. Waychoff's passing. :-( :-(
I have been a Nightwish fan ever since I saw their 'End Of An Era' concert at Hartwall Areena on youtube in 2006. I have lived in Texas over 40 years and Symphonic Metal is not a very well-known music genre in America, but I believe this band, and Floor, have the power to bring this European genre to a much greater audience in the US. It would also help if Within Temptation, Epica, Sabaton and other bands could break through the pop/rock barrier and play larger stadiums.
I've seen a lot of Americans posting on Nightwish videos and 'reactor' videos so I know the time will come(after the pandemic)when Symphonic Metal will be a much bigger concert draw than it is in the US now.

I wonder if this will help Sabaton's popularity in the Netherlands as well. I as an American discovered Sabaton first and then found Nightwish thanks to comments on Sabaton videos about Floor being Hannes' wife.

I don’t understand what’s so extreme about metal , esp Nightwish it’s not hardcore at all. You’d think they expect floor to have horns and a third eye or something.
I thought Metal was more mainstream than it seems to be in NL since they have fair share of interesting bands coming out of their metalscene but apparently its very niche.
Metal for many people is still perceived as aggressive because people don't look at the sub genres of metal but metal as a whole for being aggressive and scary.
And that's the stereotype that many metal heads like Floor wants to get rid off.
Hence why Symphonic Metal is in a way easier to digest for the masses.
@@Zoza15 I don't much like heavy metal(I do like Led Zeppelin though lol). I grew up on Classical music in my school days. The first time I heard Nightwish I thought wow they play my heavy rock but they also play Classical music. I was hooked from then on. We don't call Tuomas "Metal Mozart" for nothing.
