As a German native speaker, I realized after YEARS of struggling with the double R sound, that it's not all too different from Standard German R. That one is produced in the back of the mouth with the back of the tongue. I learned Spanish RR by holding German R and kind of "transferring" that vibration from the back of my tongue to the tip of my tongue. Don't know if that makes sense to anyone. :D
Actually, I can easily tell the difference between a guttural trill sound and an alveolar trill sound 🤔but you can still use a guttural trill for pronouncing spanish or italian doble erres if you are uncapable to execute the alveolar trill. Better than not doing any r-trill sound 😊.

I've just started learning Castillian Spanish, and it isn't the 'r' that's the problem. Rather, it's the 'll', as it isn't always pronounced like a 'y', as it's sometimes pronounced like 'ch' or 'j', and I'm not entirely sure why.I suppose I'll just have to listen to a Spaniard and, hopefully, I'll get the hang of it.

You got it right, sounding more natural and being understood. If you mispronounce the R, some people will struggle to understand you, especially if the context doesn't make obvious what you're trying to say. I also think it depends which language is your native one. Being French, our R is different from yours but it's still close enough that I can (mostly) get away with it. I'll just sound French most of the time but I don't mind that. For speakers of languages with a softer R (like English) or with no R at all (like Japanese), they don't have that luxury.
La r sola y después de vocales me sigue costando. Al principio de palabras o después de consonante resulta más fácil . De todos los idiomas que hablo es el que más me resiste fonéticamente pero bien al final llegas más o menos.
Después de vocales al final de una sílaba, se puede pronunciar como r o como rr. Intenta pronunciar los verbos en infinitivo (cantar, comer, reír, etc) con la r o con la rr. Nadie toma atención a la diferencia porque no conlleva un cambio de significado como con carro/caro.
Los niños españoles empujan los cochecitos de juguete haciendo el sonido del motor "RRRRRRRR". Veo que hay gente que intenta pronunciar la R con la lengua tocando los dientes (superiores). Es mucho más sencillo y requiere mucho menos esfuerzo si pones la lengua un poco más atrás, casi al centro del paladar.

makes perfect sense to me. I learned the double rr starting with gutteral sound from hebrew and also the french r and after awhile i could roll it.

Para mí es mas difícil el r singular. Suelo usar rr en todos lugares.
